  1. That is a gut punch. Ron Franklin was the voice of college football for me, more so than Keith Jackson at the time. Jackson may have called the bigger games, but Franklin called "my" games. His son was a UT student when I was there furthering our claim to him. Non of this ESPN favoritism, we always had Ron Franklin on our side.

  3. Pretty sure he still lives in West Austin (Westlake neighborhood). He has young kids (second wife) and I think that keeps him busy. I have seen him a couple times over the last year in Westlake eateries.
  4. This game is the carbon copy of the OU game this year. Like watching a slow motion train wreck.

  6. Didn't we recently lose a recruit to these guys? Maybe it's time to reach back out.
  7. They do it with almost exclusively volunteer coaches, many who have been there for 10+ years. A good number of the coaches have played in College with a couple spending time in the NFL. They are similar to Westlake in that they have a history of success. This energizes the younger kids to want to play, so their participation percentages are off the charts compared to other local private schools. This has bred some real talent, there are 3-4 D1 players on this years team. My son has been in the program since middle school and is a starter on varsity this year. It has been a tremendous experience.
  8. .....and that trailer sits on a lot that would sell for $1M plus!
  9. This is how the Kool Aid starts getting mixed isn't it?
  10. Tough start to the day waking up and finding out I am getting sued. Haven't worn my spurs since 1990, but my bad decisions continue to follow me around I guess. By the way, what does the Spurs Alumni Association have to do with anything? The only involvement we have is writing checks and buying hats.
  11. While I don't disagree that OU did a pretty good job of not following us south to the median, I actually think our sucking did hurt OU on the national scale. When they are battling TCU, and Baylor for the conference championship there are seeds of doubt cast nationally whether they are worthy of consideration. I think the complete disappearance of a Pac 12 threat coupled with the two QB Heisman's they won keep them relevant enough to make the playoffs, but as soon as they were beaten the ESPN talking heads couldn't pat themselves on the back quick enough to return the narrative to the SEC.
  12. I see the following as difficult to disprove: 1. College Football is better (Nationally) when Texas is good. 2. Big 12 NEEDS Texas to be good in order to be relevant. 3. There is a general respect for Texas on a national scale, but also a general disdain. The respect is diminishing. So in summary, many out there need us to be good so that they can hate us. If we can hire Urban Meyer we have the best chance to give them what they want on both fronts.
  13. He is Duane's son. He is named after his uncle Bobby (who passed away in 2000). It looks like he is headed to SMU.

    Silver Spurs

I was a Spur. It was a really long time ago, not sure just how applicable it is to todays organization. It is a well run organization based on the Alumni communication I receive. There is a fairly active alumni network that holds regular events in the larger Texas cities. I am proud of my affiliation, it was a big honor back then. I don't know that it was worth the wrath they put us through at the time, but am absolutely sure that type of thing can't be happening today. It did allow me to meet a group of guys that I would not have known otherwise. I count many of those people among my close friends today.

  16. Uhhhhh..........on second thought.
  17. When Morris joined Kliff at Tech in 2013 he was Co OC with Sonny Cumbie. I understand that early that season Kliff told Cumbie to stop talking on the headset during games, that he only wanted to hear from Morris. Cumbie left for TCU at the end of that year. Morris continued as OC during the Mahomes era. He took the IW job when the Bro Coaching alliance at Tech was coming to an end. He played for Leach, coached under Sumlin at UH, then back with Leach at WSU, then Tech and IW. Had he chosen to go to a larger school after Tech he very well could have been the leading candidate at the beginning of this search. He chose to take a head job at a smaller school with very little history of success. He had performed well in that role. I think Eric Morris would be a great hire if Harrell doesn't make a decision quickly.
  18. Larry Fedora. Just my guess.
  19. KSU had 2 timeouts left, and there was 1:45 left on the clock. Sam ran the ball on first down and intentionally went down close to the LOS. KSU took a timeout. We did the same on second down and KSU burned their last timeout. Third down we scored but had an illegal formation that moved us back. We took a knee on the next play and called timeout with a few seconds on the clock. Kicked the field goal on fourth down to win.
  20. I think I am supposed to say, "Name Checks Out".

    Replacements

Now we are talking.... Don't Tell a Soul was my favorite album during my college years. Wore the grooves off that one.
  22. I would imagine the results would not have varied much if they had sampled him just after breakfast that day. This was a sad accident where speed was the culprit, drugs and alcohol were not a huge factor in the cause.
  23. secondary is struggling, but we could help them with a pass rush. We put zero pressure on the QB.
