  1. That is exactly the point of this thread.
  2. Sure, but the counterpoint is the acquittal of the Oregon Militia. Maybe the Feds completely botched that case, but they fact that every juror came back with "acquit" is truly frightening. It only takes one to hang a jury. I think they will convict people who are shown assaulting cops and probably destroying properties. I don't think you're going to get broader charges to stick on anyone who entered the Capitol. There is some room for interpretation there, and I do not trust a jury of my fellow Americans to interpret facts the same way I do.
  3. Keep two words in mind when the Feds move to finalize charges: "jury selection". There will be Trump supporters in the jury pool. There will be people who think the election was rigged. There will be people who have a hard time distinguishing between a BLM protest on the streets and a insurrectionists storming the Capitol. Trying to get a conviction on even the obvious will come down to jury selection.
  4. Well, he was a bit homo. It's Tennessee Williams, after all.
  5. Didn't Trump call them "haters." I think his current gaslighting attempt is to try to convince people it was actually Antifa who stormed the Capitol. And there are still complete morons on social media who believe that narrative. If he pardons everyone, that is much harder to sell. I could see selected pardons to the Trumpstains who look less crazy, on the excuse that the Capitol Police let them in, but there is no way he's pardoning the scary-looking folks like the Shaman.
  6. BIG DADDY: If I give you a drink, will you tell me what it is you're disgusted with, Brick? BRICK: Yes, sir, I will try to. Have you ever heard the word 'mendacity'? BIG DADDY: Sure. Mendacity is one of them five-dollar words that cheap politicians throw back and forth at each other. BRICK: You know what it means? BIG DADDY: Don't it mean lying and liars? BRICK: Yes, sir, lying and liars.
  7. Here's the thing, White People don't feel association with other rando white people. Sure, I get embarrassed about what percentage of white people voted for Trump, but that's statistics. But, in general, if there is some white idiot on the TV, I don't feel an association. Yeah, it's a different set of rules. Sorry, man.
  8. I would say even 20 years from now it would be "yeah, he got impeached twice, once related to his involvement in the storming of the Capitol." I think that event will be better remembered than the impeachment in 20 years.
  9. Well, the Constitution does read "...he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment." I would read that as he can't pardon people (in other offices) from impeachment. But it could also be interpreted as meaning that he can't pardon anybody (himself, rioters, any piece of shit who helped) for crimes related an impeachment case. It's not like it's every been tested.
  10. Apparently that unauthorized staffer was the executive director. Republican AG Group top official resigns Yeah, the problem is when your political PAC sees that there may be some advantage in supporting delusional bullshit, that resulted in insurrection. It's self-interest, with no ethics, that is the problem.
  11. The outstanding Megan Hunt, my state Senator, is going hard to the paint on the Nebraska AG. Per the AG, they think it was approved by an unauthorized staffer. Which, of course, is a thing that should not happen: unauthorized staffers, but definition, cannot approve buys.
  12. Ignoring the obvious spin out of Pence loyalists, it makes me a little happy that they all seem to hate each other now. You know, I fucking hate them too, so I guess we can find some common ground after all.
  13. She didn't just say it, she wrote it, in a newspaper. Bangor Daily News
  14. The guy who died was bludgeoned with a fire extinguisher, so that was likely inside.
  15. I would say that another significant difference between Trumpsters storming the Capitol and looters/rioters related to the BLM protests is that the latter didn't fucking video themselves doing federal crimes and then posted such evidence on social media. If there is ever a need to demonstrate consequences, it's when there is a broadly held notion that there would not be any. These dumbfucks are genuinely surprised that they don't have the right to violently attack Congress. That delusion needs to be corrected as soon as fucking possible.
  16. Sure Ricky, whatever you say. (Just kidding. Looks like original tweet was deleted, so it may be a false id.)
  17. When attempting to appear well-informed, it would help if you spelled it "capital." The Capitol is what they violently took over with the intent of interrupting the democratic process. A capital offense is one that includes a potential death penalty. While there may be overlap between the two, they are spelled differently.
  18. The rioter was going to hand the cops devices that cops use to detain rioters? Two things funny about that (if it were true): 1. That is an outstanding amount of white privilege to assume the cops wouldn’t immediately detain you with it as you storm the Capitol. 2. He was right.
  19. The funniest thing about white privilege is when it gets removed. These idiots who think they're being oppressed are about to understand what it's like being on the outside looking in. You know these fuckers cheered Trump when he threw up travel bans from "shit hole" countries. Well, assholes, you're being singled out because of your actions, not your religion, nationality or race. How does it feel to be stranded at the airport? At least they can rent a car.
  20. They absolutely reflect your fellow citizens.
  21. Info on Doug Jensen. Last one needs updating.
  22. Bullshit. This is a reflection of our society. Who we elect is a reflection of our society. "Of the people, by the people, for the people" isn't just some philosophical target, it's the functioning reality of a democracy. There is no us (public) and them (politicians), there is just us. Are some politicians shitty? Sure. But that delegation of culpability just builds the mindset that the only reasonable solution is for the oppressed public to overthrow the corrupt government. As the public, we need to take responsibility for this fucking mess. We need to put in the work - the boring, non-glamorous, sustained work - to right our country.
  23. FBI statement - 13 charged so far
  24. A lot of the 2021 agenda will just be the 2020 bills that the House passed, but died in the Senate. Decriminalizing marijuana, lowering prescription drug prices, closing gun show loopholes... They've been written, debated in the House, and passed the House.
  25. Yep. I think a lot of the "steal the election" rhetoric that the GOP has been supporting is being used to set the stage against this bill.
