it's upthread a bit but if they cut him with a post 6/1 designation it's $67 million in dead money with an $11 million cap charge for 2026. $98 million in dead money over the next 4 years combined. https://overthecap.com/player/tua-tagovailoa/8745
How so? He's serviceable with room to grow and cheap. They're cutting Tua loose regardless. Probably will have to restructure to make the cap hit more tolerable (like ATL did with Cousins.) Unless they can get a veteran cheap they'll likely roll with Quinn and then plan for 2027 if he doesn't show signs of being a decent starter.
I liked Miami because they were a pain in the ass to OU and now they've taken a giant shit on aggy and Ohio State. I'm back on board and I was at that 1991 Cotton Bowl. As an aside, that 1990 Miami team is a lot like this one - underachieved during the year but was a lot better than people thought. That team would have torn through a playoff that year.
1/16 is the deadline to ENTER the transfer portal. Players can sign well after that as long as the request was submitted prior to the deadline. And note it's based on the date of the REQUEST, so you will still see dudes entering the portal up to 48 hours after the window "closes." so we have until 1/16 to tamper the shit out of any OL we want since we're scrambling (and will apparently have plenty of money to burn).
Bobby didn't say that. That was me. We literally have had two guys turn us down for less money to stay at Michigan and to go to Ohio State. Yes, for many the biggest bag is all that matters. But if you have pro aspirations there is a point of diminishing returns. That's what people have been saying about Coleman, but it should be qualified that if Tech comes in with an absurd offer it might be worth doing time in Lubbock instead. My response was really triggered by the suggestion that Texas was "cheaping out" (for lack of a better term.) That just isn't the case. We've already seen two players take less money than what Texas has offered to play somewhere else, so the issue isn't that Texas isn't paying enough.
Listening to the OTF livestream and Bobby mentioned that we had a higher offer than Ohio State for this guy. Matt Patricia signing a 3 year deal was likely the difference. Bobby then mentioned something I was thinking yesterday - at some point the numbers are large enough that the differences don't matter as much. For example, there's not much of a difference between $1 million and $1.5 million in terms of lifestyle. It's not like the difference from 60k to 90k, which does. This is especially the case if you are a college kid living on campus. Of course if someone comes in with an offer several times another then that can make a difference (like $1 million vs. $5 million.) But that just doesn't happen very often.
