Holy shit you dipshits: 9-3 Texas is probably in the playoffs
One big difference between FSU 2023 and Ole Miss this year is that we all got to witness the horror of a Travisless FSU team whereas we don't get to see Ole Miss play without Kiffin until the playoff/bowl game. That said, there is absolutely precedent for dropping Ole Miss out of consideration due to the staff changes. ETA - dropping Ole Miss also screws Kiffin out of any bonuses he would have received for their performance in the playoffs.

I agree with this take. The context of the games matters and we've played a very difficult schedule in the aggregate. My take on road games was more of "if I was on the committee and had to argue Texas' exclusion, then what would I use?" I was trying to come up with something legitimate other than three losses or the lazy "don't lose to Florida" take. That's what I was able to come up with.

I admitted that they sucked. But so do Kentucky and Mississippi State and we looked like ass. We should have crushed those teams. Seriously, can anyone name one road game - regardless of the competition - that we looked competent other than the second half of Mississippi State? Anyway this is moot. We're being left out for three losses and these empty suits will dig no deeper.

The strongest argument against Texas - other than just "hurr durr three losses" - is our performance on the road this season. We'd almost definitely play a playoff game on the road, so the committee would ask - can this team win a game against a playoff team on the road? We played five true road games this season, going 2-3, and losing to a team who fired their coach. We were blown out by Georgia and our "best result" was a 7 point loss to Ohio State. Not a good data point when your best result is a loss. And even the wins were suspect - we needed OT to beat another team who fired their coach and a big comeback and OT to beat a below average Mississippi State. Now let's look at some of the other teams: Oklahoma - wins at Tennessee and Alabama. Alabama - won at Georgia (this easily cancels out the FSU loss even though that loss is worse than ours at Florida) Notre Dame - blowout wins at Pitt and Arkansas. Yes, I know pig sucked but they did what you are supposed to do and destroyed them. Miami - blowout at Pitt and VT (again, they suck, but that's what you are supposed to do) While this isn't the only data point, it's a pretty strong one that doesn't work in our favor.

Trumps War on Everything
tl;dw - He was ordered to give a POW in American custody to the Afghans and refused. The POW wasn't going to make it but since it was a POW in US custody he had an obligation to follow the Geneva Convention. He was a Lieutenant and a Captain gave the order, but the Afghan interpreter with the Captain was like "yeah yeah give him to us!" so he chewed out the interpreter so he wouldn't appear to be going after a superior. The Captain got the message. He also gives over My Lai and how that went down afterwards. In that, only the Lieutenant on the ground got real punishment and the superiors got off. Yup. I mentioned this in the other thread, but Bama's loss at FSU is objectively worse than ours at Florida. If they lose the SEC title game it's going to really test the whole "won't punish conference title game losers" stuff.- Holy shit you dipshits: 9-3 Texas is probably in the playoffs
If there was any proof this is only about the number of losses look no further than Bama's loss at FSU. That is objectively worse than our loss at Florida but since they played a weak Wisconsin team instead of Ohio State they are getting the benefit of the doubt. That's why everyone is talking about that game against Ohio State and the loss to Florida is irrelevant to the conversation. If we'd played Purdue instead of Ohio State then we're comfortably in the field and likely host a playoff game. And before anyone goes "hurr durr they beat Georgia" remember they also lost AT HOME to Oklahoma who we clobbered at a neutral site. The bottom line is this is run by a bunch of empty suits who make up the rules as they go along in order to have as little controversy as possible. They don't want to have to answer questions about why a 3 loss SEC team is in over a 2 loss (or even 1 loss) team from another conference. It would require actually defending the resume's and they cannot be bothered with that.- Holy shit you dipshits: 9-3 Texas is probably in the playoffs

Same. I view this as a “no lose” situation. I want what’s best for Texas, but I’ll never root for Ohio State against Michigan.- Holy shit you dipshits: 9-3 Texas is probably in the playoffs
Agreed. They had a loss to aggy “baked into” the rankings and then we beat their ass. Now they have a problem.- 2025 Random Games thread
