  1. Are both Canada and Uruguay playing their backups?
  2. and that is a legitimate reason to not like him as the hire. my point was that people are getting hung up on him being a current MLS coach as if that's automatically disqualifying. as for what you want - it is highly unlikely that we will pull someone with that kind of experience. USMNT simply isn't that desirable of a job.
  3. There are reasons to not like Cherundolo if he's the hire he's anything but an "MLS guy." He spent 20+ years playing and coaching in Germany and only started coaching domestically in 2021. Arena, Bradley, and Berhalter (other than a brief stint in Sweden) were very much "MLS guys" who had spent nearly their entire careers coaching in it. FIFY. Nancy is as inexperienced as Cherundolo but since he's not an American he HAS to know more about soccer.
  4. If BJ Callahan can get more out of this team than GGG, then why the heartburn over Cherundolo? I get wanting a coach who has coached in Europe, but “beggars can't be choosers,” as they say.
  5. It's important to remember that many plugged-in pundits felt that Berhalter was keeping his job regardless of the outcome of the Uruguay match. His dismissal was far from a foregone conclusion, and even with the intensity of the blowback many like Crocker fought tooth and nail to not fire him.
  6. Keep in mind that the USMNT job doesn't have the same expectations as the USWNT job. It's not an elite job relative to other national teams' jobs whereas the women's job very much is. There's a reason we could pull someone like Emma Hayes for that job. Consider that as US Soccer vets candidates. I don't mind if Crocker shoots for the moon but he also needs to recognize that he's not going to get the same kind of interest for the men as he did the women.
  7. NY Times reporting that Klopp said no. Wants to take a break.
  8. https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/_/id/40536813/us-soccer-cant-miss-next-usmnt-coach-gregg-berhalter-analysis Interesting that there was pressure to fire Crocker as well. He has to get the next hire right.
  9. something's broke because Emma Hayes' page is also giving a 404: https://www.ussoccer.com/coaches/emma-hayes
