  1. This is great. You should feel lucky to have a dad that was able to love you like that. I didn’t ever get this kind of thing from my dad and it really sucks. I have the same flaws (impatience, selfishness, self-hatred) that my dad has but I’m absolutely desperate and determined to have a deeper more positive relationship with my kids; so far so good, but they’re not teenagers yet.
  2. Last year he was as good as peak Springer on a pa/pa basis. I just have a hard time seeing him keep that pace as he plays LF everyday, which reduces his defensive value, rests him less, and puts him in less favorable matchups. That said, he’ll totally live up to the task of making noise in the bottom of the lineup and I agree he’s a great piece in the overall picture. I just think he’s closer in value to Josh Reddick than George Springer.
  3. I hope I am wrong, but I think 2023 was McCormick’s peak. I think he will still be a good player, just not the absolute star he was last season; the fact that he only got 457 pa last year despite not ever being seriously injured is sad. But if McCormick ever steals 30 bases in a season I will be utterly shocked. I also think Abreu has one last productive gasp in him; he showed last year that his injuries and the change in teams affected him pretty dramatically. Once he settled in and got healthy, he was pretty badass again.
  4. It is extremely close but based on projections Abreu would likely be the better run producer even if his ops were a few points lower, due to his contact profile. But it’s close enough not to matter. Really aside from getting Alvarez and Tucker as many appearances as possible and getting Meyers and Pena as few as possible, it’s pretty meaningless. Altuve, Bregman, Diaz, McCormick, and Abreu are all likely to be very close in overall offensive value.
  5. By the book the lineup would be: Altuve Alvarez Bregman Tucker Diaz Abreu McCormick Pena Meyers But due to handedness matching, manager hunches, egos, and rest days, we’ll never see that lineup. Espada made a comment today that could be interpreted as expecting Pena to be back in the 2 hole which would be stupid af.
  6. Our luck Trump will win and the 3 GOP guys will retire and Sotomayor will die. I’m sorry Ms Jackson, it’s just you and Kagan for real!
  7. Biden is old as fuck. While I don’t expect it and I certainly don’t think there’s any kind of conspiracy for it, it would not shock me at all if Biden encountered health problems in the next 9 months that forced him to drop out. It sucks that the other side wouldn’t see that for what it would be, and instead would see it as proof that a cabal of babyblood drinkers is pulling the strings of world politics behind the scenes.
  8. Singleton cannot be sent to the minors without being designated for assignment and exposed to a waiver claim by another team. It is certainly possible he would go unclaimed (he did last season, that’s how Houston was able to sign him). I am one of the bigger proponents of Singleton, but Cabbage is a better potential fit for the roster; he’s got just as much raw power but much more value in the field and on the bases. If Cabbage has a good spring then I think it’s very likely Houston will take their chances designating Singleton (or trading him). If I were a GM of a team with shitty options at 1B/DH (Padres, A’s, Rockies, Nats), I would try to trade for Singleton.
  9. A black Democrat is not going to defeat an incumbent white male GOP Senator.
  10. Jesus Christ can yall please just put that stupid shitbird on ignore? Fuck me running.
  11. I think the learning over the last 10 years regarding Texas and Florida is that Mexican Americans and Cuban Americans do not vote blue.
  12. Brown or Javier taking a big step forward would be huge. Astros have 10 viable SP in Framber, JV (threw off a mound today), Javier, Brown, Urquidy, France (still on track to be healthy on opening day), Bielak, Arrighetti, Dubin, and Blanco. Those last 4 are not guys you want to count on bigly but would be fine BoR guys if needed for a few weeks. If Framber or JV get hurt you’re pretty fucked no matter what; you don’t just go out and immediately replace a Cy Young candidate. Snell and Montgomery still being available and Crane showing he’s in fuck it mode with the Hader signing does give some comfort.
  13. Arizona and Nevada could turn red as people move due to climate/water. But Georgia is a different animal; it is blue because of Atlanta alone, and I think those voters are less likely to move due to climate. Without any of GA, PA, and MI, it is extremely hard to plot a path for the GOP, even if AZ and NV flip.
  14. Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia should be safe blue states by 2032. I can’t see any blue states trending the opposite way that will counter that. 2028 is probably the last presidential election where a staunch conservative/maga candidate has any chance whatsoever, assuming fair elections still take place by then.
  15. Man I don’t know. I say all this as someone who voted for him in 2020 and will proudly vote for him over Trump again in November. In the moment where he most needed to show he is of sound mind he failed to finish his thought several times and made several mistakes (e.g. Mexico instead of Israel). There were certainly moments where he seemed very sharp and appeared to have a firm grasp of the subject matter he was speaking about. But in my view it is clear he is suffering from significant age-related cognitive impairment. This is not good.
  16. I would guess PA will be pretty safe, and I’m not all that worried about MI. WI and even moreso MN I think will be swing states where Dems have a slight edge, so it’ll depend on the candidates and external factors.
  17. Flip timeline broken down further: Soon: NC When the Boomers are mostly dead: OH, SC, MT Within 25 years: IA, AK, TX, FL, IN, KY, WV, KS, MO, NE Never: OK, AR, LA, TN, MS, AL, ID, UT, WY, SD, ND Before that first large group flips there’s bound to be a major party shift of some kind that renders the prediction worthless. But NC is in play this cycle and OH, SC, and MT could be real battlegrounds by 2032. (PS: I don’t know shit.)
  18. I just feel like Montana is ripe for migration from the west coast to flip it within the next 15 years. With so few people and as close as it already is, it wouldn’t take much.
  19. Predicted Order of states flipping blue (compared to 2020 presidential): North Carolina, …(long gap)…Ohio, Montana, South Carolina, …(long gap)…Texas, Florida, Iowa
  20. Strained calf was my first big “fuck me im old” moment. Immobile for a month, couldn’t run for 2 months. All because I hopped down one stair. wtf. Other thing to expect/beware of is a hernia. I didn’t even do anything strenuous and all of a sudden I’m having surgery and can’t do shit for a few weeks. Like you, my trajectory over the last 5 years (ages 38-43) has me very skeptical that I will live to 70. Now I know why dudes go crazy in their mid 40s trying to capture what little life/joy they still can.
  21. We looked incredibly poorly coached last night and Hunter played about as poorly as I’ve ever seen someone with his talent level play. Why our offense didn’t run thru Disu in the 1st half, I’ll never know. Kudos to the team for clawing back into the game, but based on my view from last night, the tourney would be a waste of time for this team, and the longer we let Terry hang around the worse off we’ll be.
