  1. My man. Rules of thumb: No hitter should ever be judged on a sample size of less than 50 plate appearances. No SP should ever be judged on a sample size of less than 20 innings pitched. If you want to needlessly flip out about some shit, wait until a RP melts down then fuck it. No sample size is too big or too small to judge those fuckers.
  2. This lineup fucks. And gives wood when thinking about subbing out Hensley and Julks for Altuve and Brantley.
  3. Y’all need to relax on Meyers. If he gets to 50 pa this season and still hasn’t shown signs of life, ok, send him down. But Julks can’t play CF other than emergencies/spot duty. Same for Dirden. So unless you think Pedro Leon is ready to come up and be a stud, show some patience with Meyers. Hensley has shown enough that it’s insane for Dusty to start Dubon at 2B. Hensley needs to be in the lineup. Hensley isn’t even bad defensively so there’s not much difference there either. I am not a Dubon hater as much as most but there’s no logic behind playing him over Hensley.
  4. So if I install NordVPN and buy mlb.tv, I can watch every Astros game on my Fire TV?
  5. Word. My job is extremely friendly in terms of work-life balance. 100% from home and I schedule my own commitments, so I am able to be available to my kids as much as needed. That has actually made it harder for me to decide whether to hang it up or not. Hard to justify walking away from a good salary when it’s really not that demanding of a job.
  6. Have you found that having elementary aged kids has limited your ability to fully take advantage of not working? Or was spending more time doting on your kids part of why you retired early? I’m struggling with that as I get close to retiring becoming a legit option. For right now it just doesn’t seem to make sense for me not to work when all it would mean is that I would be Mr. Mom.
  7. Matijevic had potential as a lefty power bat. But being limited defensively and striking out a lot makes it hard to hold on to a roster spot in your late 20s.
  8. Pretty simple roster building checklist for Terry imho: 1. bring back everyone with eligibility including the 2 signees 2. add a big man who can rebound, play defense, and be the focal point of the offense when matchups present opportunities and Disu is out 3. add a guard who can score the ball, preferably someone ok coming off the bench who makes at least 35% of their 3’s
  9. This is what I’ve been told about this Tennessee shooting from right wing people in my social circle: “See how those hero cops responded! They’ve learned their lesson and another Uvalde will never happen again!” ”Maybe if we weren’t spending so much money on Ukraine we could afford to arm our teachers and make our schools harder to break into!” ”That murdering trans bitch!!!” These are people with fucking JD’s and Masters’ degrees living in Houston and San Antonio and DFW, not guys who dropped out of HS living in Vidor. I have zero hope that we will see meaningful positive change on this issue any time in the next 20 years.
  10. My 5 safe predictions: One of Bregman, Yordan, or Tucker finish in the top 5 of the AL MVP voting. One of Framber, Javier, or Garcia finish in the top 5 of AL CY voting. One of Brown, Diaz, or Hensley finish in the top 5 of the AL ROY voting. Astros win the AL West. One of Abreu, Altuve, or Brantley will play less than 50 games.
  11. After watching that clip of Brown explaining the moves, it seems like with Diaz expected to get everyday play (taking backup C and some 1B/DH duty), the 12th and 13th position players are pretty unlikely to get much time. Julks will likely be used as a pinch runner and emergency OF, with Salazar serving as the emergency C. Dubon/Hensley will get all the 2B and backup IF duty. If Diaz hits over the next few weeks, when Brantley comes back they could keep Salazar as the emergency C and send Julks down, resulting in Diaz effectively being the backup at C, 1B, DH, and LF. Diaz finishing in the top 5 of the ROY voting this season would not surprise me at all.
  12. I think Diaz will be the primary backup C and take all the starts at catcher on Maldy’s scheduled days off. But on days Maldy is set to play, they want to be able to keep Diaz’s bat in the lineup without risking losing the DH if Maldy needs to come out in the middle of the game. I think it is possible both Diaz and Salazar go down when Brantley comes back, with Lee coming up to serve as the traditional backup C.
  13. Salazar is a 7th round pick from Arizona a couple years ago. Defense first catcher who avoids striking out, also had a bit of a power breakout last season with 16 HR. The exact type of unheralded catching prospect who ends up spending 6-7 years hanging on in the majors. My guess is he made the roster because the pitchers said they liked him and they wanted a 3rd catcher so they could use Diaz in the lineup everyday until Brantley comes back.
  14. Wow, Salazar and Julks both require 40 man spots.
  15. He still struck out 13 times in 34 AB this spring. So yes he hit for power and probably looked better on defense than expected but his spring performance didn’t allay any concerns about his major wart. He needs to go to AAA and show he can keep his k rate at a reasonable level.
  16. G: Hunter/TBD Portal/Brumbaugh G: Morris/TBD Portal/Perryman G: Johnson/Cunningham/Bott F: Mitchell/Holland/Clark F: Disu/TBD Portal/Anamekwe Who knows who all will come back, but that roster would be very good. Head to the portal to find replacements for Carr, Rice, and Bishop. Mitchell, Holland, and Johnson can take Allen’s minutes. If Brumbaugh is any good then they may only need 1 G from the portal. If Anamekwe is any good then they may not need a big if everybody else comes back.
  17. My Roster Prediction: C (2): Maldy, Lee IF (6): Abreu, Hensley, Pena, Bregman, Dubon, Bannon; Bannon brings some defensive versatility since he can handle 3B, 2B, and 1B. I could see Diaz instead of Bannon but Diaz’s ceiling is high enough to warrant putting him in AAA to refine his defense and get him everyday ABs. OF (5): Tucker, Meyers, McCormick, Alvarez, Matijevic; Dirden would require a 40 man spot and he still struck out a ton in spring despite the gaudy slash line. Matijevic gives them a lefty bench bat with power who can play 1B and LF. Plus Dubon can handle OF as well as IF. SP (5): Valdez, Javier, Garcia, Urquidy, Brown RP (8): Blanco, Martinez, Maton, Stanek, Neris, Montero, Abreu, Pressly; can’t see anyone else over Blanco and Martinez since they optioned Gage. Blanco will be used in a multi inning role. I would be surprised if they made a move to add someone from outside, although I like Chad Pinder and Dusty does too; he might make sense to bring in as the 2B for a tryout while Altuve is out, but I believe in Hensley.
  18. My initial reaction to pretty much anyone with pretty much any problem is always “just fix it”. Almost all of people’s problems can be boiled down to discipline. If alcoholics had the discipline not to drink, if smokers had the discipline to quit, if broke people had the discipline to manage their money, if fat people had the discipline to eat less, if dumbfucks had the discipline to educate themselves, the list goes on. But the more you dig into all those problems the more you realize how complex they are, and how far back the root causes go, and it becomes really difficult to hold people accountable for their issues. Most fat people are fat mostly thru no fault of their own. Some combination of genetics, childhood trauma, and socioeconomics fucked them long before they started consciously evaluating their caloric intake and expenditures. So what are we to do? Do we just say “fuck it”, and nobody is held responsible for anything anymore? Do we ignore all the mitigating factors and maintain the myth of self-determination? I don’t have any good answers to that, but for now I fall somewhere in the middle. All these factors behind these problems should be recognized, but also adults should ultimately be held accountable for their behavior. I would be in favor of taxing the fuck out of processed foods and products with added sugars and oils and (further) subsidizing fresh fruits and veggies and high fiber foods. Healthy food should be much cheaper and more available than unhealthy food. An entire chicken should cost less than a bag of flaming hot Cheetos and a bunch of bananas should cost less than a can of Coke.
  19. All this belongs in the CR. Whether you think the cause is overspending or undertaxing depends on your political team.
  20. That’s entirely debatable. The problem is neither revenue nor spending, it’s the deficit. Any opinion about how much of each side of the ledger needs to be adjusted is hard if not impossible to discuss outside the cloak room.
  21. I already debunked your idiotic “$2T in stimulus” claim.
  22. If Terry takes this team to the Final Four, he has to be offered the job, right? Also, is there any logic to the idea that hiring a less expensive coach like Terry would leave more money to buy players?
  23. You didn’t write the column. But you did post its link in 2 separate places and said “plan accordingly.” Congrats on being a complete fucking idiot. Now kindly fuck off.
  24. Get ready for BTC $1M!!! Lmfao are you really that fucking stupid?
