  1. He obviously is being very aggressive so far in the majors and it’s worked so I wouldn’t ding him for lack of walks this season. His 9.5% walk rate last season wasn’t great but also wasn’t terrible, considering how productive he was. I am usually not too worried about prospects not walking if they aren’t pedigreed, at least until they start getting pitched around.
  2. Average to below average. He can be a good defensive LF but he’s stretched in CF/RF.
  3. Julks’ two hits had EV of 107 and 109. Big league pitchers may find a weakness but he has a lot of potential to be a good big league hitter for awhile.
  4. What’s funnier is he was calling for “the guy who showed out last year” to be called up instead. Julks showed out like a mf last season with a 30/20 year in AAA. The guy he clamored for broke out in AA last season but sucked in AAA and is currently sucking in AAA again.
  5. 10 years of rosaries. You know, I’ve done ten years of rosaries. Did them like you’ve never seen. Some people are saying it’s the best decade of rosaries ever.
  6. Brutal 72 hours. We need to keep Hunter, Disu, Cunningham, Holland, and Anamekwe; that’s 2 really good starters, a great 6th/7th man, a dynamic freshman who can start or be the 6th man, and a depth F who would be fine as the 3rd or 4th guy off the bench for a good team. In order to even have tournament aspirations we need to add an all-conference caliber scoring guard and an established big man. After that it would be good to add another ball handler and another player with some size for depth. Things are lookin dicey.
  7. It’s insane. 2023 will be the first year I didn’t attend a Texas basketball or baseball game since 1998. I also usually buy tickets to every Express game against the Astros affiliate, until this year they were never more than $20/ticket even for the best seats in the house. This year I only bought for one of those games because they were $32/ticket. Can’t be sustainable.
  8. All the pundits think Sarah Palin torpedoed McCain. It was the other way around. If she’d waited until 2016 or after and hopped on the Trump train, she’d be president by now.
  9. I find it encouraging that we aren’t hearing of Texas targeting LB in the portal. Hints that they may be fine with Hill, Lefau, Blackwell, and/or Gbenda playing a lot. If that’s the case, then this roster could probably use one more good experienced DL but otherwise I don’t see any weaknesses from a talent/experience/depth perspective.
  10. Shittier than Trump and DeSantis??? Not possible.
  11. Some decent ideas but almost none that have a chance of getting done in the next 10 years. My state-level issues that I think have some chance being addressed: tweak Robin Hood legalize weed legalize gambling Pipe dreams: TEA overhaul: dramatic increases in teacher salaries, dramatic decreases in student/teacher ratio Extended waiting periods, red flag laws, and increased background checks for guns Medicare/Medicaid expansion State funded public college for all High speed rail that follows I-10, I-35, and I-45
  12. They have 2 bullpen meltdowns and 2 crummy SP outings. That’s all over the backdrop of Bregman starting in a slump with Altuve/Brantley out. I think Dusty probably could’ve managed another win if he’d played Diaz more but otherwise it’s pretty standard shit aside from Bregmans slump.
  13. Assigning blame for the 6 losses so far: Garcia, Stanek, Brown, Stanek, Martinez/Bregman, Pressly/Montero/Bregman
  14. Whitley was apparently very good today. https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/player-scroll/game?gamePk=721430&player_id=666215#power_sets Threw 5 different pitches. Sat 95-96 on his FB. Only allowed 4 hard hit balls and 2 were on the ground. Very encouraging
  15. The 2 moves I would have made that they didn’t were signing a catcher who can hit and adding a SP. My choices based on how the market played out would have been Omar Narvaez at C and Andrew Heaney or Mike Minor at P. Narvaez is out 2 months with an injury, Heaney got blown the fuck up in his first start, and Minor is still unsigned. So I’m glad I’m not the GM. The Astros ended the offseason with 6 hitters who projected to be extremely good and another 2 who performed well as everyday players last season, with their 9th projected everyday hitter being their defensive-minded C who apparently has incredible intangibles in gameplanning and pitcher management. Their bench projected a competition between 2 of their top 5 prospects for the backup C spot, their previous starting CF who is returning from injury, a utility player who is Dusty Baker’s son’s friend, and a wide open competition for the 13th spot (with Hensley in the pole position based on his playoff performance and versatility). Prior to Brantley and Altuve getting hurt, any criticism of their position player roster construction was picking nits or whining about the quality of the 12th and 13th guys. After Brantley and Altuve getting hurt, the pickings to replace them were extremely slim. The pitching side was similar. Prior to McCullers getting hurt, they projected 6 effective SP and 7 relievers returning from one of the best bullpens in league history, backed by a deep stable of SP slotted for AAA. Before McCullers got hurt the worst thing that could be said was that they didn’t have a proven lefty for the pen, but again that’s picking nits. No team can lose a player of Altuve’s importance without feeling it, so this team very well could be in a division dogfight after 50 games. But they have the depth and resources to weather it over the long haul. This team will be fine.
  16. If I have to hear this woman say “NOLE and void” one more fucking time, I’m gonna kill her and then myself.
  17. LoL your boy AAAA player Corey Julks hitting .316 so far.
  18. Archived. Julks had 30 HR and 20 SB last season in AAA. His exit velos and speed stats back those up. It’s not like they promoted a shitty player. He might end up being a AAAA player, but drawing conclusions from 16 pa is fucking stupid. Dubon has yet to strike out or make an error this season. One thing I agree with all the pussies on this thread on is that losing Altuve and Brantley really highlights Maldonado’s offensive shortcomings. It’s one thing to have an automatic out in the 9 hole when you have 6 star hitters and 2 more above average hitters. It is another when you have 4 good hitters and not much else. To that end I’d like to see more of a 60/40 split between Maldonado and Diaz until Altuve gets back, and more of having Diaz pinch hit for Maldy in games they fall behind. We are still at least 2 weeks away from knowing shit about fuck.
  19. 3 steps in mass shootings and what can be reasonably be done about it: 1. Person is allowed to harbor sick violent thoughts they intend to act upon. We need a massive “see something, say something” campaign designed to ensure these sick people are not ignored and that warning signs are acted upon. We also need to increase resources allocated to mental health education in schools and community mental health services. 2. Person with sick violent thoughts they intend to act upon is able to easily acquire guns and ammo designed to kill many people quickly. Require a license and background check commiserate with the type of weapon a person wants to own. AR15s and the like should require a “drivers Ed” level training course that includes mental health evaluation by the instructor. Ownership of a gun designed to kill human beings should require insurance. Guns and ammo should be heavily heavily taxed. Gun and ammo manufacturers should be held liable for mass shootings. 3. Heavily armed person with sick violent thoughts they intend to act upon is able to access schools or other crowded areas and kill many people before help can arrive. Schools should be locked at all times with one controlled access point staffed by a security guard or LEO. Districts should be held criminally liable for security lapses (I.e. if you leave the side door unlocked it’s your ass). All staff should be trained on how to handle active shooter situations (I believe this is already happening). It is totally mind boggling that any of this is in any way objectionable.
  20. My man. Rules of thumb: No hitter should ever be judged on a sample size of less than 50 plate appearances. No SP should ever be judged on a sample size of less than 20 innings pitched. If you want to needlessly flip out about some shit, wait until a RP melts down then fuck it. No sample size is too big or too small to judge those fuckers.
  21. This lineup fucks. And gives wood when thinking about subbing out Hensley and Julks for Altuve and Brantley.
  22. Y’all need to relax on Meyers. If he gets to 50 pa this season and still hasn’t shown signs of life, ok, send him down. But Julks can’t play CF other than emergencies/spot duty. Same for Dirden. So unless you think Pedro Leon is ready to come up and be a stud, show some patience with Meyers. Hensley has shown enough that it’s insane for Dusty to start Dubon at 2B. Hensley needs to be in the lineup. Hensley isn’t even bad defensively so there’s not much difference there either. I am not a Dubon hater as much as most but there’s no logic behind playing him over Hensley.
  23. So if I install NordVPN and buy mlb.tv, I can watch every Astros game on my Fire TV?
