So can Putin put up some kind of fight? This is like watching Aggies vs Sooners and rooting for a tornado to land. I'm much more concerned with Priggy's military capabilities than Putin's. We really need some damage dished out on both sides and also eat up some time so that UA can recover as much territory before whichever successor emerges.

Putin is a complete imbecile. To not see this coming, which has been brewing for months, is mind blowingly idiotic. To allow Wagner to withdraw and regroup after Bakhmut without some defensive contingencies is stupifying. To not even have reliable FSB agents within Wagner to help Putin monitor their overall movements is stunning considering his background. Even Mack Brown had enough common sense to shove Greg Davis out the door when he realized that the results were not there. I don't see how Putin can see Shoigu as capable during all of this and continue to support him while also being blissfully ignorant of Prigozhin's rants. If Putin knew that he would have been sticking with Shoigu through thick and thin, then he should have also been planning a way to retire Prigozhin. If not something drastic like an assassination or imprisonment then possibly something more subtle such as reassinging to Africa or Syria to provide "security". Anything to get him away from the front lines in Ukraine and away from the bulk of Wagner troops. Without him functioning as the cult of personality then Wagner is not going to be the same security threat...no one else has demonstrated the crazy cajones to stand up to Russian leadership like this.

Voronezh is about 7 hours away from Rostov-on-the-don using the M4 road (assuming they move as fast as cars and have enough dimes for all the tolls). I'm guessing that Shoigu/Gerasimov will try to pull together a blocking unit to hinder any rapid advancement. Voronezh is about 6 hours from Moscow so it is almost directly the midpoint to Moscow. Putin absolutely has to avoid any type of rebel force accumulating in the Moscow outskirts otherwise any last shred of credibility with the populace will be stripped away on the Kremlin's doorsteps. Are there any other type of logistic hubs/airfields/etc that may be useful to Mr. Priggy? I'm also assuming that he has preparing at least for some of these once he got the orders to leave Bakhmut. They have had a little bit of time to regroup and refit, especially once MoD made the announcement about the July deadline. Not sure how long they can hold out with current supplies but I'm also sure they can manage to liberate a few supplies, toilets and toiletries to keep them in the lifestyle that they are used to.

"Without a Tsar, Russia is a widow and the Russian people are orphans." - Old Russian proverb We will see if this mirrors any of the Time of Troubles which had an abrupt absence in leadership. The son of Ivan the Terrible, Tsar Fyodor, died before producing an heir and the next in line would have been his half-brother, Prince Dmitri, but who was mysteriously slain years earlier as a young child. Dmitri was found dead, throat slit, at the tender age of nine. Dmitri's mother accused Boris Godunov of the dastardly murder but Boris simply claimed that the young boy must have been epileptic and fell tragically on his own knife. The Russian habit of mysterious deaths has apparently been a cherished tradition, passed on generation-to-generation... Anyways, Boris had the fortune, or possibly the incredible foresight, to be elected next Tsar. However he managed to make his own fate, he could not also strong-arm Fortune. Russia succumbed to many famines and plagues. As unrest grew so did the rise of the False Dmitris, all claiming to be the long lost half-brother and the legitimate owner of the throne. These pretenders would rise up along the borderlands, supported by Poles or Cossacks or any manner of disenfranchised that they would encounter along the way towards to Moscow. Frequently local garrisons that were nominally obligated to halt the long revolutionary marches would instead join the pretenders. Needless to say there were many years of turmoil and many changes in leadership. Now the present situation is not in any way based upon royal bloodlines or distant claims to hereditary rule. However the underlying dilemma of legitimacy is very similar. Plus Mr. Priggy faces the same general strategy, march to Moscow to make a change. Who is going to let him pass? Who will join his side? It is all quite incredible and I know one thing --- I will certainly be grabbing Ye Olde Bucket of Popcorn for the next few days.

Oh boy, I actually go to the office for once and then all hell breaks loose. If that's all it takes then I'll be RTO all next week.

So marriage counseling could have prevented all of this?

I'd punch everyone of you dipshits right now for a cheeseburger. Procedure is tomorrow so I've been fasting all day, slamming these pills and reliving Harry's finest moments: -

Was everyone in a shart free zone with their first post-procedure meal? Or did you need to be within 20 steps of a toilet? What was your first meal of choice after getting probed? -
So I finally reached that pinnacle in life where I need that backdoor plumbing checked out. Obviously I've never gone through this nor experimented with the NowThis lifestyle. So asking the rest of you old timers what to expect and any tips to not become the monthly centerfold for the shart thread.

A nice video with some satellite images of various Russian trench lines. Gives you a better idea of all the little ratholes that the Ukes will have to clear out.

Amen brother. I know I'm smoking a big fat bowl of hopium waiting for some bg updates. But I understand my biases and try to be patient with getting reports from credible sources before getting too high or low. At least my work has been crazy this week so I haven't been refreshing tabs quite as much. Hopefully Ukrainian biolabs are working OT to create more killer sharks. Sharks with frickin lasers!!

Estimates of the Russian defensive positions in the south. Should give a good perspective on the number of defensive lines to cross just to get to Tokmak. We will see how committed the Ruskies are if the counter offensive starts making breakthroughs and gains some momentum.

Umm I think you're misreading his msg. Auto is saying that Putin's strategic logic for external buffer states is bullshit. If Russia simply focused on not being an asshole to its neighbors and simply focused on basic border security then they wouldn't have all of these mythical "threats" to their national security.

Bringing this post up as I think these new PMCs are going to be a factor in the upcoming warlord cage match. I had not heard too much aside from Putin adding his blessing to encourage these new forces. Which still dumbfounds me that he would continue to empower a faction build up. Instead of trying to consolidate the chain of command he is instead fragmenting his power. Now I can see certain positives with this initiative: 1) Secret mobilization - allows deployment of existing security personnel without utilizing an official 2nd wave of mobilization. 2) Offset costs - forces PMCs to shoulder most of the burden of recruitment/salary/equipment costs. 3) Administrative structure - bypasses the need for governmental red tape and utilizes existing corporate hierarchy to handle the fine print. 4) Weaken Wagner - by advocating new PMCs, Putin is clearly limiting the funding and resources for Priggy. However it is just insane to me that he does not consider all of the drawbacks: 1) Fragmented chain of command - the existing COC has been horrible and adding in multiple players is just going to detoriate further. I wonder if this is also a sign that they may not have enough leadership structure to even train and utilize these new bodies in the regular army in the first place. 2) Corruption will continue - who knows how many of those recorded mercs are actually available on the front? Guaranteed that these companies will over report the number of bodies available for duty. 3) Legitimizes factions - this has made it very legal for private businesses to expand on their security forces. They have time to organize trainers, equipment, and build together teams with more advanced tactics than what would normally be acceptable. While not at the same level of experience as Wagner it is a big first step for building a functional fight force that has inherent loyalty to the company and not the state. Now Gazprom is a state business and essentially another wallet for Putin, making those PMCs nominally his private army but there have got to be other oligarchs building up their forces. Teaming up with other mafia muscle to cement a survival plan for once vova Putin bites a bullet. They may not all be ambitious in securing the top spot but they are definitely trying to preserve their fiefdoms. If not actively knocking out competitors they will be muscled up to stop unplanned launches from their penthouse's windows. It is going to be nuts trying to keep track off all the potential players once this pops off. Putin/Shoigu/Gerisimov/Prigozhin/Kadyrov are the big names at this point. What other names are going to pop up over the next couple of years?

So the sweetest schadenfreude is that Putin is on record stating that the collapse of the Soviet Union was the biggest tragedy of the 20th century. So when the time is right, I like to think the last thing to go through his head, other than that bullet, was to wonder how he created the biggest disaster in the 21st century.

Things not only getting more heated around the border but also in the studio. Gotta love this one guy's "bitch please" looks when arguing with these morons.

We'll see how long these revolutionaries hold out. I'm still thinking it's going to be a quick in and out panty raid but if they hold on then we might start seeing some comparisons to the Time of Troubles. One of the bloodiest times in Russian history where the false Dmitrys would march to Moscow claiming to be the true heir to the throne.

Me: disappointed that the Ukrainian counter offensive hasn't started Also me: disappointed that the Russian counter offensive has already started Also also me: thrilled that the Russian counter offensive is also against the Russians

Some rumors from Telegram are saying that Mikhail Mizintsev is now deputy commander in Wagner. Who is this guy you may ask? I know its hard to keep track of all of these potato-headed Bond villains but this is the guy that was recently fired by Putin from his post as deputy minister of defense and logistics. Prior to that he was better known as the Butcher of Mariupol as he was the one who commanded that assault all last year. So very interesting that the guy who was recently bitching about lack of ammo and piss poor logistics gets the very guy who was in control of all of that just a few weeks ago. Not quite sure if this a way for Prigozhin to backdoor into some secret stockpiles. Or just partnering up for an eventual showdown for the upcoming warlords dance party. Or maybe its a calculated move by Putin to secure a replacement for Priggy? Fake a dismissal just so that he can plant him in the one PMC that is the biggest loose canon out there. Tons of possibilities and different theories we can make about this news. Either way it is going to be quite fascinating on who starts pointing fingers once this counter-offensive starts popping off. There is no early buyout and and a chance to retire to their dacha for these guys.
