  1. Getting swept out of first fucking sucks. 13-12 I July. At least there’s a decent chance at a rebound @ the Tigers (who are better now than last time they played). Also, this: Chris Sale expected to make at least one more minor league rehab start. If all goes well, Sale could be back in the Sox rotation by the middle of the month.
  2. In news that hits close to home, the Sox today outrighted RHP Brandon Workman off the major league roster. He has elected to become a free agent. Damn. He got lit the fuck up in his last outing, but had a solid ERA for most of June/July. With the trades (and lukewarm arms) they just gained, I guess there just wasn’t room. Hope I’m wrong, but this is a shitty move.
  3. Man, I really hope they don’t piss me off four days in a row. Beating the Rays is kinda important.
  4. When’s the trade deadline again? Asking for a friend.
  5. Always have a soft spot for Mikey Chavis, but when you can add two (very average) bullpen arms you do it, right?
  6. Well, fuck. Sounds like the Twins made off pretty well, so can’t blame ‘em.
  7. Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox are “heavily pursuing” Jose Berrios. Not sure they *need* starting pitching, but it sure would be nice.
  8. [Attack of the Clones meme] “He can play first base, right?” “Yes.” “He plays there often, right?” “Exactly one game in a 562 game career.”
  9. Schwarber > Rizzo
  10. Good God… trade deadline distraction, much?
  11. Well, since Bauer is, um… “on leave,” I guess they had to hit the panic button. Looks like they want to win a ring that counts this time, eh?
  12. Fackin’ Dahjahs
  13. Dammit. I guess they could use some lefty bats with that 270-foot fence in RF.
  14. Mufuckin’ 7 inning double headers. Everyone KNOWS this team peaks in the 8th/9th. Let’s start a new streak in a couple hours. My preference: Rizzo or Santana (Cron a close 3rd). Hosmer’s contract scares me a bit.
  15. Chris Cotillo: “Reports indicate Red Sox have their eyes on some big names (Scherzer, Rizzo, Kimbrel). Knowing how Bloom operates, don't think they'll jump the market and beat the field on those guys with massive offers. Just a guess. Instead, could wait until price drops Thu/Fri” Scherzer just seems like too far of a reach, I refuse to bite on that one. Rizzo would be fun for nostalgic reasons, and would just be a rental with free agency looming (so cheaper), but Carlos Santana is another option floating around. Obviously he’s past his prime, but gets on base, still has some power, and hits from both sides of the plate. We’ll see. Whole lotta action anticipated before 4pm eastern time on Friday.
  16. Another day, another clutch come-from-behind win for the Sox. I think that’s 33 on the year. Tops in the majors. Let’s roll.
  17. Sox are eyeing August 10th as the return of Chris Sale at Fenway Park vs the Rays
  18. Quite the role reversal in the 8th inning today. There is something about this Sox team… great energy and atmosphere by the home crowd today. Fun fact: The Red Sox WIN the season series against the Yankees in 2021.
  19. Seventeen years ago today… Don’t stop the music, gents. Go Sox. Fuck the Yankees.
  20. Fuck ‘em. Go Sox.
  21. I’m all for Rizzo if the price is right, but a possibly cheaper (trade-wise) name I’m hearing is the Rockies’ CJ Cron. Granted he’s a righty rather than a lefty, but he’s having a better season than Rizzo is, and Chaim is familiar with what he can do when he was in Tampa (30 HR and a .816 OPS in 140 games). The Marlins’ Jesus Aguilar would be more expensive than Cron, but is fucking crushing it this year. I’m ok with any of those three. Dalbec has shown moments here and there, but just isn’t consistent enough to be a playoff team’s everyday 1B.
  22. Road trips would be a blast, but the 9pm kickoffs for every other west coast game would tire my old ass out.
  23. Tanner Houck will start tomorrow night in the opener against the Yankees at Fenway. Hopefully Garrett Richards’ non-sticky stuff is decent enough to fend of the Jays tonight.
  24. “PORTLAND, Maine -- What's 6 1/2 feet tall, works in the upper 90s and is about to make an impact on the AL East in the dog days of summer? Chris Sale faced 12 over 3 2/3 no-hit innings, striking out six and walking one in a scoreless rehab start for the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs on Tuesday. His first pitch was measured at 96 mph on the stadium gun. The Red Sox left-hander matched that speed multiple times and topped out at 97.”
