    2020 MLB thread

Indeed. Kelly previously got a 6-game suspension in a 162-game season for actually hitting a player and fighting him. How does he get an 8-game suspension in a 60-game season for missing Correa and Bregman? He didn't even get ejected. If he’s such an egregious repeat offender, you’d think the ump would’ve done something about it then and there. Manfred’s defense of the Astros is almost as shameful as Jim Crane, and he owns the fucking team.

Don’t think other club houses had this routine going. #freeJoeKelly

Ken Rosenthal: “The eight-game suspension for Joe Kelly in a 60-game season is the equivalent of a 22-game suspension in a 162-game season. Seems…harsh.”

Love the “Joe Kelly wasn’t even on the Dodgers in 2017!” complaints. As if his team didn’t get eliminated by the Astros in the playoffs that same year. “BUT, BUT, BUTWHATABOUT the Red Sox and Yankees cheating?!?” Sure, they likely cheated to some degree as well (as did other clubs surely did), but the extent of the “Codebreaker” program, which likely the entire front office was complicit in, was far more egregious than any other team had the audacity to try and pull off. Just about every objective MLB reporter or source agrees. I’m actually surprised it took this long until the Astros got intentionally thrown at. Considering how they get to go the entire year without being publicly booed and shamed in person, they’re still coming out ahead.

    Attaboy, Joe Kelly.
  6. This is gonna be a shitty season. /looks up 2021 MLB Draft prospects
  7. We still play the Orioles like 19 times this year, right?

Brody Stevens cut out at Dodger Stadium was pretty cool, IMO.

Ugh, it's gonna be like basketball before you know it. (I can see why they're doing it this year, but I just hope it doesn't set a long-term precedent.)

Jesus. This certainly isn't going to be the last one, either.
  12. Jesus. That's not good. I'd be surprised if he pitches at all this year.
  13. Ok, I've been a little out of the loop on baseball lately. Forgive me. It was just a possible lineup, after all. Pillar could lead off as well vs. lefties.
  14. This season doesn't REALLY count, does it? On the same day the franchise's best position player since Ted fucking Williams signs a 12 year deal in Los Angeles, I guess it's fitting to start this thread. (Quick aside -- Stupid fucking ownership. Fucking luxury-tax obsessed motherfuckers. They basically print their own money for the last two decades, and now the triumvirate of John Henry, Tom Werner, and Sam Kennedy are the collective love child of if Scrooge McDuck fucked Mr. Burns with trying to cut payroll. Let's keep paying Pablo Sandoval and Rusney fucking Castillo, though. Man, from 2018 to this inevitable nightmare of a so-called season... shit, what happened? I know I really can't complain after 4 World Series titles over the span of 14 years, but the future - especially given the depletion of the farm system - is looking pretty damn bleak.) In all honesty, best of luck to Mookie. Even if you hate the Dodgers, it's tough for any objective baseball fan to root against that guy. I hope he earns his contract and makes the Sox front office think about it every fucking day for the next decade. Ok, enough of that. It's only 60 games. Stranger things have happened, right? Possible lineup: LF - Benny DH - JDM 3B - Devers SS - Xander 1B - 2-Bags 2B - Ice Horse C - Vaz RF - Alex Verdugo [😣] CF - JBJ (Jose Peraza, Kevin Pillar, Bobby Dalbec, and the corpse of Dustin Pedroia are all the highlights coming off the bench.) Rotation: Nasty Nate Martin Perez Ryan Weber Brian Johnson Matt Hall(?) (E-Rod is still recovering from the 'rona, so he'll be eased carefully back into the rotation.) Bullpen: Workman (hook 'em) Matt Barnes Ryan Brasier Heath Hembree Colten Brewer Marcus Walden And a bunch of other schlubs... Darwinzon is still recovering from the 'rona as well. (Fuck, it's not a good sign when two of your best arms both test positive.) Oh, and apparently they're still gonna play Sweet Caroline to an empty Fenway during every home game. 2020 is a fucking dumpster fire of a year. PLAY BALL! Go Sox.
  15. Yeah, I'll get around to it. The replies to that tweet are (not surprisingly)... yikes. Love the "season ticket holder since 1976" copy & paste job.
  16. 12/$365mil seems to be the official number.
  17. Dumb question (probably answered elsewhere): Why wouldn't the Jays just play at their Spring Training facility in Florida? Is it just because it's a 'rona hotbed?
  18. Fucknuts. Can't blame him for signing it now, with a little bit of financial uncertainty ahead. That's a loooong time for a lot of money, but that's pretty much where the market is at for the 2nd best five-tool player in his prime. The Red Sox front office (deservedly) feels like shit right now.
  19. CSB: Live four-ish blocks from there and was riding my bike around yesterday when I saw the fire trucks. Actually had no idea the consulate was there. I wonder if they need any help moving out by Friday? I have a truck. This is a weird fucking story.
  20. I'm relatively new to this game, but the aforementioned John Oliver episode (and one of my closest friends from high school going WAAAAY off the deep end lately) had me going down the rabbit hole on QAnon. My favorite subsection: JFK Jr. is not only alive, but is a huge Trump supporter(?), and is planning on replacing Pence as VP before the election. Not sure what excuses I've heard about him not showing up yet, but I'm sure it's on par with Trump "wishing well" to Ghislaine Maxwell today. https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/qanon-jfk-jr-conspiracy-theory-854938/
  21. Well, this is colossally disappointing. Can we blame being distracted by the FA Cup?
  22. Obama-Yang! I know he’s on the wrong side of 30, but I hope he stays with Arsenal for a while longer.
  23. My dumbass goofed the last one.
  24. Derp.
  25. Ten years ago today, this happened. [/url] According in an article in The Athletic ($), it’s the least likely cycle - if not event - in MLB history, given the circumstances before his last at bat. (He had six triples in 13 career seasons.) https://theathletic.com/1904940/2020/07/16/10-years-ago-bengie-molina-did-the-most-impossible-thing-in-baseball-history/?source=user_shared_article
