  1. We buy these when a vegetarian niece is coming to a family gathering. Tasty, even for an old carnivore like me. I think only available at Central Markets, however.
  2. Watched King Lear. I had never read nor seen a performance of Lear and was very impressed with it. Anthony Hopkins was really great as Lear (no surprise), but I also really enjoyed Jim Carter as Kent. It's done in modern dress and trappings, but Shakespeare's dialog. I found it much easier to follow with closed captions on. It's in widescreen format, so the captions were not over the film view. And Emma Thompson was highly believable as a vile MILF.
  3. I fly the US flag, the Texas flag, and alternate the Longhorn flag and the Port A Strong flags. I also have a copy of Sheridan's San Jacinto flag (see my avatar) but haven't flown it yet. Maybe next April 21.
  4. Agree on AF&F. I buy their heavy duty US and Texas flags for use at the coast. I think it's called TEXTUFF or something similar. Usually have to replace due to fading before fraying. I get the 3 X 5 and don't know if they do 5 X 8 in that material.
  5. It wasn't? I would have voted for Ry Cooder over Steve Vai anyday.

    The Blues

A little note for those who don't peruse the Movies/TV threads. Netflix has Remastered: Devil at the Crossroads and Amazon Prime (and Youtube also, I think) has Can't You Hear the Wind Howl? for any of you fellow Robert Johnson fans.
  7. Put on my watch list. Reminded me of the Danny Glover documentary called Can't You Hear the Wind Howl? from '97 that I think I saw on PBS back around that time. Checked around, found on Amazon Prime and added to that watchlist to see again.
  8. Grandson is going through his ordeal for OA ( Tonkawa Lodge) this weekend. I'm going out on Saturday to watch the ceremony and have dinner with him. Looking forward to it.
  9. All seven seasons available on Britbox. Not sure where else.
  10. Very easy read and very interesting. Not sure yet how he came to the amount of detail. Maybe a little of Edmund Morris' Dutch?
  11. No, the Kelly McGillis photos are what's called aging.
  12. Did you do the netflix original Get Shorty? I'm a fan of Irish actor Chris O'Dowd. I also watched the Death in Paradise series. A light detective series, with two changes to the main DI character over the seven seasons. Attractive French and Afro/French actresses a plus.
  13. Johnny Fry was the first rider. He was later killed at the Battle of Baxter Springs (KS) by members of Quantrill's Raiders. BTW there is a Pony Express Museum in St. Joseph, MO. Well worth the visit if you're in the area.
  14. Similar in fall of '65. I didn't do any adds or drops, but didn't you have to go to the department office back then for adds and drops?
  15. Mrs. Rex Ryan?
  16. Just started watching Family Tree from Christopher Guest. Stars Chris O'Dowd, who was great in Get Shorty (on Netflix?). Seems true to Guest form, so if you like his work, you might like this. Only through first episode so far. Also, being big into genealogy, my wife and I find this particularly amusing.
  17. I miss the old Ace Record Store on Elm in downtown Dallas in the 60s. Thousands of used Blues and R&B 78s for $2-5. Never could afford much, but could spend hours just looking.
  18. Another record club kiddo here, only I was with RCA Victor, as I was mostly into jazz and swing. This was certainly one of my first that I purchased myself if not the first. I was working at a laundromat for 50 cents an hour and LPs at the time ran $2.98 for the most part. This was more, as it was a double album. Released in 1960, I still had it until a house flood about 3 years ago. I lost hundreds of LPs, 45s, and 78s. C'est la Vie. It goes to show you never can tell. This was great, as it included Caruso, Tommy Dorsey, Harry Belafonte, and Maurice Chevalier, an eclectic collection. I played the hell out of it in the early 60s.
  19. Always loved Allen's writing and performing. Only time I've seen him was in 2014 with Alejandro Escovedo's United Sounds of Austin. Great show with lots of great Texas singer/songwriters. I think he did about 4-5 songs.
  20. Sounds good. Glad to see Ashley Jensen in it also. She was great in his Extras series.
  21. Ahh -- but what do you order for your friends at Whataburger? https://www.kens5.com/article/news/local/fired-deputy-smuggled-whataburger-to-inmates-officials-say/273-735dd4ee-8eee-4f46-a320-b4b5179ac8d6
  22. I still remember the night in 1981 when Charlie Rocket said fuck in the closing moments when the cast was assembled to say goodnight. He was, of course, canned and disappeared from tv for a while.
  23. Thanks! Also going in March. Will try to work this in.
