  1. The show about chinese food uses some kind of super close up camera to get the money shots of the food while it is cooking. Just a real good amount of focus on small food items. The establishing shots of rural china and the marketplaces that set up the food shots are good too. Just a meticulously well shot food show.
  2. This Friday's game makes it six in a row for Iowa. Many have been close, within one score. But every single game Iowa does well at the line of scrimmage. Some of the games have seen dominant performances from the defensive line, really taking Nebraska and their offense out of their rhythm. Iowa has only been good one of those last six years, and finished ranked in another. Its not like they have some kind of great talent pipeline there, its more about development.
  3. It might be easier to win at UCF. I think I remember the guy before Frost was like seventy years old and ran a pro style offense with Blake Bortles and had a BCS busting season.
  4. With all the other games getting canceled it means that Nebraska vs. Penn State is something like the biggest game this weekend.
  5. The B1G West is wide open in this joke of an exhibition season they are putting on to salvage some television money or the conference thinks it can sneak Ohio State into the playoffs. This is an opportunity for a team like Northwestern to get whatever the prize is for winning the Division.
  6. Extremely cheesy submarine movie Hunter Killer from 2018 is on Peacock , new since the last time I checked the app.
  7. Somebody put me on this release that seems to mix the Massive Attack style downtempo with classical and even spiritual jazz into something like what some of the new age stuff in the nineties sounded like back in the day
  8. I was listening to the local sports talk radio shows doing previews of the B1G conference games over the past couple weeks. The build up to the season opener against Michigan had many of the opinion guys going on about how Harbaugh has struggled to meet expectations and needed wins sooner than many other guys. Fleck had built up the Minnesota team to the point where they should have been even or better than the Wolverines on paper, like in the preseason magazines.
  9. The first Assassins Creed game was almost unplayable, like its one of the most boring video games ever made.
  10. This would be the Scarlett Knights first conference win since 2017.
  11. Matt Millen used to be a GM of a NFL franchise, then a talented tv guy in demand, now he is just filling time at this miserable Rutgers v. Michigan State game.
  12. Greg Schiano is like four minutes away from meeting all of his team's goals and expectations for the whole year.
  13. One of the many ways of judging the old albums and the old music is seeing how often and for how long afterwards the music is covered, remade, redone or rearranged over the years.
  14. Decades after the fact, some of the friends of session players from the Lauryn Hill album came out with some stories about how the players contributed musically, like they thought they deserved writing credits on the album. The stuff after the fact only added to the craziness, like signing other session musicians to non disclosure deals where they can only vaguely talk about the sessions for the follow up album that never came out. Anyway, the number one solo jazz pianist went on a crazy rant about her in 2018
  15. I watched the first episode of the Chefs Table :BBQ and will watch the other ones later. I also watched Street Food Latin America a few weeks ago. When you watch one of these shows and its on location and every single shot looks incredible, the producers get that by spending tons of resources trying to get the perfect shots. They had to have had multiple teams of cameras and lights for the Snow's episode, they had to have spent days on location shooting nonstop and collecting everything they got then editing it down. Only a couple shots looked staged, like food staging not the usual reality program staging. Anyway, I will watch the rest of the shows later.
  16. I had a bunch of sports documentaries in the algorithm generated recommendations, so I checked out A Kid from Coney Island, about the mercurial basketball player Stephan Marbury. I remembered his career in the nineties but had kind of tuned out the NBA in the 200s and could barely remember the Marbury meltdown that made him one of the most hated athletes in America around 2010. Anyway, there is a lot of nineties hip-hop and cultural connections, Fat Joe and Camron and DJ Clark Kent give long contributions. His early career in the parks in NYC, playing against God Shammgod and Felipe Lopez, his teammates KG and contemporaneous players like Chauncey Billups contribute. The focus is on his family for most of the documentary, and his fathers death causing his epic emotional meltdown that sent him to China. The ending is filmed in his final games over there, in the museum dedicated to him and showing the statue the team built for him. Anyway, its a good look back at a bizarre career.
  17. I finished a couple of Brazilian sci-fi shows this summer on Netflix. Each have the same producer/creator and have a cast with too many young people to take real seriously when the acting gets dramatic. Anyway, both 3% and Omniscente have many pieces in their sci-fi universes that make them about Brazilian society, be it the inequality or the security state paranoia or even the music. 3% has a solid first season, but the low budget (the dystopian police thugs have such cheap uniforms and they are all skinny scrawny people) takes its toll on the series as it develops. The show uses a lot of the song "Preciso Me Encontrar" played on the fiddle, another song titled "Bom Censelho" is used over and over again on the third season. I would actually recommend the show Omnisciente, it unfolds slowly as a murder mystery, maybe a little too slow. The computer coding sequences are really simplified, and the use of drone/security footage is overdone. But its still worth watching. There is another show titled Reality Z, a Brazilian adaptation of an English horror spoof where zombies attack the Big Brother house, but I couldn't make it through an entire episode it was so bad and relied on so many recycled Zombie tropes.
  18. I had a young coworker from the Middle East and I was telling him about Dune. What makes the book different from so many others is that it isn't watered down for a middle school level reading audience. Its a serious High School senior or college level book to read.
  19. From the Lincoln City Council meeting:
  20. Someone uploaded The Pacific War in Color to yt with tons of personal home videos and footage that hasn't been recycled over and over again through the years:
  21. I hang out at the place next to the packing plant. Where they burn off and melt all the stuff that isn't used in the plant because it makes valuable chemicals, like oils and lubricants or maybe even soap. I can't remember the name, but I remember the smell.
  22. Nebraska may have just landed a backup wide receiver from Iowa, formerly at Michigan, from the transfer portal.
  23. During the 2018 season, the main rival of Indy, Garden City CC had a player collapse and die of heat exhaustion while practicing.
