  1. The remastering and graphics and audio make the downloads of classic games take large, its like downloading the entire software for the whole old atari system to run them.
  2. They could cut the 2 or 3 cupcake games from every team's schedule. Who am I kidding they could never cut the awful mismatch cupcake games.
  3. Can you imagine going through this stuff back in the nineties with nineties entertainment options instead of streaming services like Netflix? I mean back in the day when families had one, maybe two big crt televisions and at most one computer with a compuserve connection? I tried to tell some young guys at work about how cable was fifty bucks back in the nineties and more for premium channels but every channel was just a constant stream of 2-star movies all day. In that sense, Netflix and all the streaming options are a slight improvement. Anyway, I finally finished The Irishman and Highwaymen this weekend.
  4. I don't have to drive to a movie theater and spend ten dollars on a ticket when the season finale of Lone Star is on tv tomorrow.
  5. The two hour season finale on Monday looks like a blockbuster action movie on broadcast tv!
  6. He is only getting the job because of his name.
  7. PS Vue had an obscure/niche station Smithsonian Channel that is available on some on-demand or other options or as part of a Satellite package. The channel didn't make enough new content to justify paying keeping a subscription or premium package for. But on the PS Vue you could use the dvr feature and watch nearly any show that had been aired in the past month. They had some deep content on military history, it was all fact based (not like the History and other channels) and used tons of archival footage with minimal talking heads or fancy graphics. Last year they had a six part documentary about the Apollo Moon landing program, the previous year they had an eight part series of colorized video from the Pacific theater in WW II. Many programs were coproduced with public television from other countries. Anyway, its worth getting the channel for a short binge on history programming, and its kinda sad that you have to point out that the programs are fact based and not dramatized or speculative shows like what is on History or H2.
  8. I know the recruiting at Ole Miss is a tangent, but a big focus of the book Meat Market was on Joe McKnight, who was the hot playmaking running back of that year's high school class. Coach O wanted him at Ole Miss, but didn't want him playing against him for LSU, so he sold USC to recruit the kid hard. Anyway, McKnight died in a shooting accident in 2016, and his google search result has a short bio followed by date of birth, date of death, and 40 yard dash time. The little sidebar to the search result kind of put things in perspective for me, like do we only value the kids as football players? Anyway, different people grieve or react to deaths in different ways. Some people remember the stuff on the field first then the other stuff. I follow Texas football and B12 and SEC from far away so I don't really know the kids from High School.
  9. I think the general idea for the movie has been remade a few times over the years
  10. I know its a tangent. But I thought his transfer to Ole Miss was when Orgeron was coach there. Orgeron arranged for a local beauty queen in one of those tailgating dresses from the picture in the grove and she showed him the campus on a golf cart. Coach O was known as a nonstop recruiter and his tactics back at Ole Miss were detailed in a book by Bruce Feldman titled "Meat Market". Anyway, I don't see how the depression and the concussions aren't related somehow, along with Sneads professional struggles and life after football.

    Huey Lewis

Not sure if pointed out before but these guys had like zero egos and made music just to have fun and not really try to impress anybody.

  14. The Manning Brothers are good examples of how far you can go in life if you aren't really athletic or smart or even good at anything.
  15. I am dvr-ing this one to watch after work. No spoilers!
  16. Fleck signed an extension right before the Penn State game that many thought would be the high tide or peak of his personal stock value as a head coach. But after he won that game and finished the season strong his value has only gone up. Depending on how some dominoes fall after the NFL does its coach hiring season, if some big college coaches get poached then Fleck would be one of the hottest prospects for any school with an opening.
  17. Fleck's OC from his time at Western Michigan was hired away by Penn State, and he has promoted a couple of guys on that side of the staff to new roles. The final ranking projections have Minnesota in the top 15 range for the end of the season.
