  1. I'm saying that we signed Sark to a prove-it deal because of the flaws you have identified. It's priced into the contract. If he hits, he hits. If he doesn't and we want to upgrade to a more sure thing, we're looking at a ten year contract. Whether hiring him was a mistake will play out, but everyone can agree that his contract was a hedge. Texas didn't sign the next Jimbo by choice because Texas didn't like the candidates available at the time. If we miss on Sark, we're not going to have that choice again. If Sark can't get it done, Texas is going to have to roll the dice on nine figure deal on the best coach we can find and live with the consequences for a long time. And if he does start winning, we're going to have to extend him in to 2033 to keep him. So where we are right now isn't so bad, really. It's the next step after this plays out that is a doozy.
  2. Michigan State signed Mel Tucker to a 10 year, 95 million dollar contract extension. His head coaching record is 18-14. David Shaw makes 9 million a year at Stanford and hasn't won the Pac-12 since 2015. Every coach in the top 10 in salaries is making at least 8 million per year and is signed for 10 years. If Sark is a sure thing, we'd be paying him sure thing money. But I'd rather see how this plays out than pay the next Cristobol 100 million dollars hoping that they can turn the program around and be stuck with them for 6 to 7 years.
  3. It sort of makes you wonder what else was going on, behind the scenes, doesn't it?
  4. I'm pretty sure if Alabama had it's way they'd probably still pick Auburn as their number one rival, but their other two picks would be Vanderbilt and Kentucky just for a competitive advantage.
  5. This must be the "GM of the portal" that some of the $9.95 sites have been "predicting" that Texas would need.
  6. The most significant point of the entire article is about not expecting every 5 star to be a instant starter. It sort of works out that you have long development and short development players in the same cycle who are all highly ranked, don't you think?
  7. About time the offensive tackles get put on blast. OLB and safety rooms too.
  8. We shall see. The advantage we have is that we don't really have an OC with Sark calling the plays, so there's room for Marion to grow here more than elsewhere if he can successfully collaborate with Sark and maybe coach from the booth at some point.
  9. You also get the advantage of an extra semester that doesn't burn eligibility, making it easier to grad transfer should you need to.
  10. My theory on the bodybuilder types and fragility is that their muscles seem to grow stronger much faster than the ligaments that they're attached to. Kirk Johnson seemed to have the same problems Whittington has had. Whittington definitely needed to re-evaluate his regimen.
  11. Yeah, unless we run it out of the Wildcat. I could see some trick go-go plays or a go-go package with Roshon as a Wildcat QB.
  12. I think that's the reaction from the defense the GoGo is supposed to provoke.
  13. I mean, you'll know for sure when you see it. The primary look is the QB in the shotgun with two RBs both standing next to him on the same side. It's like a flattened wishbone.
  14. They had it before then, I remember it as far back as '98. A guy I played intramural softball with would buy it. He was from the Midwest, and I'll never forget what he said: "yeah, it tastes like piss but it's cheaper than pop!"
  15. You could also look at Schooler and Foster...wherever they are now. Schooler is desperately hoping to make an NFL practice squad and Foster is at Sam Houston State.
  16. Don't let your fake news stats distract you from the FACT that our coaching staff is DOOMED to repeat the FAILURE that was last year. DOOMED DOOMED DOOMED!
  17. Good catch. Man, that would be frustrating as hell for a player, especially the knuckleheads we rolled out at safety. Maybe Patterson was brought in to help PK coach up his coaching staff.
  18. Do you have any actual conclusions to draw from his last two stops? Have you watched any of his games prior to last year as a head coach? Or is this just the same "Seven Win Steve" trope, yet again.
  19. He's not expected to be ready for fall camp and we're actively recruiting players in the portal to play ahead of him. That's my prediction.
  20. They didn't want to play two deep safeties. The pass rush was so bad and their safeties were so bad in coverage that they were terrified about getting beat over the top. PK's defense has always featured Cover 3 with one high safety and minimal blitzing when he has the correct personnel. If you have to bring 5 or 6 on any given play to have any shot at pressuring the QB, you're going to get picked apart in the Big 12.
  21. Full search? You're dragging that corpse back out? Nobody does a full search. You can't, the recruiting windows are too short these days. That's why the coaches that Lincoln Riley took with him to USC snuck out of Norman on a private jet in the middle of the night. When recruits will decommit at the drop of a hat, so nobody is ever "available" until they've already agreed to terms. Even then you have to worry about another team poaching them if word gets out you're interested.
  22. 5'10.5"? Well, our O-Line is so porous that he wouldn't have to worry about seeing over it.
  23. Peterson's not available, but we do have his DC and a former head coach from his coaching tree on our staff already. Who's better than Sark that we'd have a chance to get next year? Who's a better bet than "Seven Win Steve"?
