  1. Good point re: the free valet. Like everything else on this thread, I suppose that's the route we're going. Nothing is ever free, just shifted.
  2. Dammit. Now I have that song in my head.
  3. Unless you count Dreamscape, I didn't see a single scary/horror movie until college. Weird upbringing. My parents were not religious at all but didn't drink or watch R rated movies so... I didn't either. Anyway, I ended up watching The Shining at a house on West Campus, then had to get the nerve to walk back to Jester, down the long hallways, to my room. It was unpleasant.
  4. Well, if any team in history were to accomplish this, it'd be the Rangers.
  5. Some movies have to be seen when you're still young. As you get older and more cynical, the magic disappears. This was my favorite movie the first 15 years of life. Happy to say, even age doesn't ruin this ending for me. Start at about 5 mins.
  6. The worst thing about Knock at the Cabin is that one could have easily come up with a twist given the story and buildup.
  7. To be honest, I was taking my wife downtown for her birthday a couple of weeks ago. I knew ahead of time that we'd be using a valet. I looked up how to tip a valet. It was some weird formula like $5 at dropoff, then 20% of the parking fee or somesuch. As one who relied on tips for several years while putting my wife and I through college, I'd rather err on the side of tipping too much or too often over accidentally stiffing someone. We can afford it. It's no big deal.
  8. Well my non 1% ass just found out that you're supposed to tip both when you drop the car off and when you pick it up from a valet. At least that's what the googles said. I've always just tipped picking it up.
  9. Whelp. I guess Garland isn't winning state. Lost to a 5A team 38-2 today. Granted, it's a good 5A team but something about -9 yards of total offense going into the half doesn't bode well.
  10. That's been the running joke in my family since the 80's. My father believes the Texas heat would eventually wear down even the greatest of Rangers teams by Sept. I'm not sure what the excuse is supposed to be with a roof.
  11. To follow up my incomplete post from Friday...
  12. One thing I noticed is that's she's absolutely beautiful despite being covered in dirt and having a swollen face.
  13. Day 5. You can't start a fire. I wonder what the producers can do to help? Oh. A can of gas and two lighters. Y'all hungry too? How bout a huge fish randomly flopping on the beach? Geez.
  14. I don't have a cool pic to go with this story but, in the 80's a kid was bitten by a bat on that (Cave) ride. The kid apparently left w/o leaving contact info. The bat turned out to be rabid. So, for a few days, the local radio stations ran PSAs exhorting the kid to get to a doc. A few years ago, I found a news article in either the Morning News or DTH describing the event as I was beginning to wonder if I'd imagined this as a kid. The Cave ride wasn't as appealing to me after that.
  15. Yes! I get this reference.
  16. Is A.I. regarded? For shits and giggles, I asked which school is better at football, and I got this. Every statement in the 3rd sentence is wrong, by a lot.
  17. I'm a teacher. In our district we can't go outside if the heat index is 100+. I have to assume the rules apply for athletics. Guess I'll find out soon enough. Still can't believe anyone would schedule a day game in August
  18. Slightly anticlimactic. Like Naked and Afraid, I feel like I've seen every episode over and over. Not a complaint. I've just found myself fast-forwarding more and more between the two shows.
  19. Anyone know the call as far as how the heat may affect possible game cancelations? I can't imagine they'll let my high school play their day game next Saturday w/ a forecast temp of 105.
  20. @crash_davis is correct. The older you get, the mellower the sounds. In the 90s you could not have convinced me that I'd listen to the downlow stuff. You would have had to pry The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, and Crystal Method from my cold, dead hands. My latest phase consist of DJ sets in beautiful places. Beautiful DJs help as well. Here's two. The latter looks exactly like what my wife looked like when we met - minus the green hair. First song here is amazing. Dammit. I'll have to post later. I'm getting an error msg on YouTube's end per embedding.
  21. Thinking about taking the boy to the Duncanville game next Fri since Garland plays on Sat. Anything I need to know? Specifically, will I be able to walk up and purchase tickets? I know this sounds like a dumb question, but I drove to a random HS game a few years ago, and was unable to get in.
  22. This. I coached HS girls soccer and club soccer in TN. There was not a lot of mixing between the two. Girls on club teams considered the fall (girls play in the fall in TN) as a time to take a break. Clubs wouldn't want their players to play HS; at least if they were elite players. I was surprised at how little I was asked to facilitate between potential colleges/scholarships and my HS team. I think I only wrote two letters of recommendation the three years I coached in HS. My daughter played club soccer, but wouldn't even consider HS. She got a bunch of offers, but picked her major over soccer. Funny side note. She got a couple of looks, but no offer, from Angela Kelly who was coaching TN at the time.
  23. I'm not on here to thread shit or whatnot, but I really, really hated this series. I saw it as the aggy roller coaster. Lots of hype, pretty cool at the beginning, then WTF happened? Isabelle whoring her ass all over the plains, her stupid accent, her stupid voiceovers, dry humping under a tornado? Perhaps I read the wrong history book, but I see no way in which everyone was just cool with the white girl hooking up with the Native American in 1883. I like Yellowstone a lot, but I fully recognize how much it has gone downhill lately. I really liked 1923 as well. But, man, 1883 was not great IMO. Now that I think about it, it reminded me of that Texas Revolution series that came out 10 something years ago. Texas Rising. I couldn't wait to see it. It kind of started ok, then went WAY off the rails. To add, I agree with @WBT. The cinematography and acting was really good.
  24. So my wife is obsessed with estate sales, Disney, and Legos. She has a Whatnot store in which she does make a decent profit considering it's more of a hobby than a necessary income stream. Problem is, she continues to buy far more things than she sells. Our study is full of this crap; so is the bedroom. Lately, it's becoming tad effing ridiculous. After telling her she needs to sell at least half this shit before buying anything else, she reassured me with the following: "Since the money I used to buy this stuff is no longer in the account, I've decided that anything I sell is just profit at this point." I told he I sucked at AP economics, but after spending a couple of years in McCombs, I am pretty sure that's not how this works.
