  1. Sounds like a slice of heaven you should call whatever you want.
  2. And people say there is no civil discourse anymore. Death from COVID is down 90% from the May peak. The case spike is worth watching for sure, but it does not translate into ICU, vents, and death the way it did in March. This may be because the new cases are skewing younger and potentially because the virus is weakening. Of course no one knows. My point is that people need to be a little more skeptical of the panic porn folks and look at what is happening more broadly in the US with respect to the most important stat and that is death from this thing.
  3. Somebody wants to tell me how many people were infected as of March 15 then I will start paying attention to current cases and change rates to that. Obviously cant be done because almost no one could get a test then. We are finding it because we are testing at a level that never happened in any nation during the peak. Some of the testing is [gasp] focused on vulnerable populations like nursing homes, prisons, hospitals, meat packing. Deaths and ICU are way down. If that holds, then the virus can be said to be acting like other coronas and waning in the summer. Lets see if there is a round 2 in the fall.
  4. Old man grew up on 55,000 acres near Miami. No running water until he was 17. Turned out to be a stones throw from Boone Pickens' place. Texas Monthly ran an article about ranches once and said for the big ones you need a better measurement. So a ranch might be 2.5 RI units. RI = Rhode Island.
  5. Well, for deciding how we stand currently all cases aren't alike. There is all kinds of (hopefully unintentional) BS going on with the case numbers. Some states are counting old cases as current, some are mixing AB with Covid, etc. Admissions, ICU, death. Those are the only semi-reliable numbers IMO. If you test 100 and get 10 positives that's one thing. You test a 1000 and get 20 you certainly have more cases. MSM is running with the case number with no ability or willingness to add some context. The problem is even three months ago there was almost no testing baseline at all so comparisons that far back dont mean a lot.
  6. There are people saying that's exactly what is happening. You have to see daily admits to really know. Not sure how many states are keeping accurate data on that.
  7. In the old days there wasn't a mumps vax. Got the rubella and measles vax. Guess they figured redundant in old folks. Anyway this MMR thing is really interesting.
  8. Very interesting. Would like to know any safety issues with giving this to us old farts who haven't had the MMR. I assume its a very low risk item since we have been giving it to kids for 50 years.
  9. I am talking about 2021. 2020 is the fucking "Year of Nobody Getting What they Want."
  10. Man, I get the point if youre a black athlete but I never heard any of this before. Sang the Eyes a thousand times, but never with this knowledge or intent. I suppose that doesn't really count for anything but if we end up killing it that sucks.
  11. I hate masks but I am on Team Mask if wearing one for a few months gets me that much closer to seeing football.
  12. I didn't see a definition of "long term" If its 20 years then so what?
  13. Maybe not entirely. % positive is evidently going down as we ramp testing across the country. Not happy about the case increases but we have to see more. AZ is supposedly combining antibody tests which makes no sense if we are trying to stay current. I think we can all agree the data aggregation is a huge mess. Some talk the increase is hopping the border from Mexico?
  14. A shooting happens in an instant. Maybe its dark, everybody jumpy, and someone makes a bad call in a nano second. Not defending it but you can see how that would happen. This was a redneck cop intent on inflicting as much pain as possible on a person who was clearly no threat. No way anyone can relate to the need to keep your knee on this guys neck for damn near 10 minutes. Mix that with a widespread view that the police have been overly militarized and years of this kind of behavior and all the COVID frustration and here you are.
  15. How numbers can be manipulated: Arizona has a spike in cases. People are throwing out numbers of hospitalizations which a lot of us think of as salient data. I would submit you need to dig deeper and find out are those people in there from a week ago or are these recent admissions: Both of these things can be true but they can be interpreted completely differently, no?
  16. If the test result is accurate it would seem they should stay. Leave it to HR to do the wrong thing, pretty much every time. Well done.
  17. Yeah, most people are really just full of shit. Good bet this treasure guy is too.
  18. Understood. Unfortunately the intake on those stats just isn't consistent at state and CDC level. Twitter sucks in general but at least this guy is putting his analysis out there. I maybe understand about half of it. Would be interested to see a stat monster take it on. I tend to favor the specific over the general so think this is at least interesting.
  19. I love to listen to people bitch about the Fed. It helps me ID who missed the move. Rule Number One is Dont Fight the Fed. Rule Number Two is see Rule Number One. Been that way forever. Fed signaled during the last crisis they were going to reflate and easy money helped propel the bull. Same thing this time with even more fiscal policy from Congress. Doesn't do any good to bitch about it, but you have to recognize the effects. My BIL was a floor trader who shorted all the time after 2009 because he was playing the way he thought things should be, instead of the way things are. More worried about being the smartest guy in the room, rather than making money. Now he lives in a fucking van down by the river.
  20. Anybody ever look at this guys Twitter? Cant tell if he legit or not. Looks like a deep dive into the numbers daily. At any rate his point about testing and cases stands. MSM is all over cases with no context, rendering same useless as a metric. Reading his thread he says this is over already in the states and the numbers will verify as we go. https://twitter.com/EthicalSkeptic/status/1270019034113859584?s=20
  21. We need to resolve this for schools to reopen I think. Having kids wear masks all day is never going to work. We need to establish rare asymptomatic spread, and that kids in particular do not spread easily. Not sure that has really happened yet.
  22. Demographics is everything on this. The base data is messy, the interpretation are even worse. For now I will ascribe that to stupidity and not malice. For now.
  23. Same here. Thought that was always the deal but dont see reference to it in testing. Know zinc has been hard to find.
  24. I would like to see a thread focused on data interpretation on COVID. Not sure MSM understands that at all or they wouldn't keep talking about cases with no context.
