I have always said that OU and/or Texas would have to leave the B12 first, for KU to separate from KSU. We share a BoR and though we could just go, it would make things very thorny, for a very long time. As long as KU stays quiet, it is a good sign they have something cooking with another conference. I hope it is KU to the B1G with ISU (so another school finds a home), but it could be CU or even multiple schools from the PAC. I know at one point that the B1G had talked about possibly going past 20 if they got the right schools. If KU starts joining in the bellyaching, then it is a sign we are fucked, at least in the short term. I hope everyone finds a good home if UT and OU leave in the end, but likely some, or all of us, might be fucked.
I will be disappointed if KU throws up roadblocks, even if KU ends up fucked. This was always coming sooner or later without quality expansion, and if KU gets left out it is our own fault for letting football be neglected for decades and not being proactive enough working the back channels with other conferences, especially considering what happened in realignment a decade ago. Worst case, KU kills FB and pours even more dollars into basketball.
Texas and OU not joining the B12 call means this is more or less a done deal. I have nothing against Texas and OU for wanting to leave, if they do. I think KU and Texas have a good relationship going back to helping with 3rd tier stuff when Texas was getting the LHN up and running that continued with KU/UT games on the LHN. I know back when we used to only play once a year in BB, in the 12 school era, KU/UT were talking of playing 1 more game OOC so each got a game at home each year. We have a 100 plus year relationship with OU that seems pretty good.
The NIL stuff means that schools need to maximize their revenue to stay at the top. This was always the timeline (2021-2023) for the B12 to die if they did not expand from or partner with another P5 league. It is entirely likely some PAC teams will be heading to the B1G. The PAC is not in good financial shape. I think in the end we see 2 super conferences more or less. A merging/pairing of the SEC/ACC (ESPN) and a B1G/PAC (multiple networks). Two large conferences rather than 5 gives a lot more negotiating leverage in the future. Get rid of the NCAA and that billion a year in BB revenue is waiting to be scooped up too.
