  1. Small degree of "unshrinking", but not much. Steamer relaxes the fibers, iron "pulls up" the fibers.
  2. I know I will catch shit for this, but...my grandson had similar issues. Smart kid, lovable 99% of the time, but when frustrated about sports/school/whatever he had what we called "melt downs". Total over reaction to the situation. He had a tendency to to get very absorbed in whatever he was doing and wouldn't take time out to eat. "Forcing" him to have a snack helped, but not completely. It was getting to the point that other kids would set him up just for the "fun" of watching him explode. We all, his parents/grandparents/etc. hated and delayed putting him on Ritalin, but once it was tried as a "last resort" it has made all the difference in the world. We are still very cautious about doses and giving him medication holidays, but the improvement in his life simply can't be denied. I was very resistant and skeptical, but the results are obvious. Start with calories, and therapy is a good idea, but also consider the stimulant medications.
  3. Steamer okay on synthetic or synthetic blends. Fair on 100% cotton dress shirts. Good on 100% cotton Polo style shirts. Steamer will not give "crisp" look that iron gives. Hand held holds about enough water to do one garment so there is much down time refilling, therefore floor model much better for home use. Hand held okay for taking out suit case wrinkles when traveling. Distilled water makes more steam and doesn't clog up the unit. tl/dr: Steamer faster and easier than ironing if you don't need that "crisp" look.
  4. I own probably 2000 lps and maybe 1000 cds. Tens of thousands of songs, but not one Dolly Parton song. Occasionally I've wondered why. Watching last night's episode I discovered the reason. As soon as she started singing, I started weeping, and couldn't stop. From Muleskinner Blues to I Will Always Love You the tears flowed. She opens her mouth, and out comes the breath of God. It's simply a beauty which is more than I can handle.
  5. Got it. I would also say that UT did not want to make any more comment because, in taking the high ground, they could avoid insulting the coach of another team.
  6. Whether released just for the hell of it, or because of foia it is still released by The University of Texas. What difference does it make?
  7. I got a gadget on Amazon that is essentially two solar powered red lights about the size of a fox or wolf pupil. They come on intermittently. So far it's working, but I imagine they get used to it sooner or later.
  8. If any advertiser announced "This moment of silence brought to you by (insert business name here)" I would support their business regularly. Humm..."Surlyhorns brings you this moment of silence." I'd contribute.
  9. How long does it take to freeze the 5 gallons? Sounds like a good idea.
  10. I'm an old. Very little profit in me taking on a challenge to fisticuffs.
  11. Actually millenials tend to embrace slow food, local produce, reusable containers and carry reusable water containers everywhere. I know a few that carry resusble cutlery. I believe you are talking about Hipsters, of which a few are millenials. I, an admitted old, have been accused of being a Hipster.
  12. ...as do their Millennial grandchildren. Just sayin'. Now, get offa my lawn!
  13. Buy block of ice and use ice pick. No plastic bag. No paper bag. Just a big beautiful bock of ice. That's how us olds used to ice down beer.
  14. Much of the world, certainly the developed countries, have potable water, essentially on demand. Get a glass. Hold it under the tap. Get a drink. I remain amazed at the people who simply must carry a plastic bottle of water with them at all times. My wife is one. I finally went to REI and bought her some non BPA, hippy dippy, love Mother Earth water bottles to carry...which she does...at all times. Of course we use copious amounts of water to wash and reuse these earth friendly bottles. I understand the weight involved in transporting glass reusables, hence my statement that we need a good plague. Drink. Fucking. Tap Water!!
  15. I see your point, but the shift from returnable to plastic was not a "slow shift". It happened in a time span of about 50 years, a rapid shift in terms of something this pervasive. Prior to that shift, all countries, first world and developing, lived without plastic containers. I do understand that "forcing" that shift, back to returnables, would be darn near impossible...here and abroad. The big picture is that there are too many people on this earth. We need a good plague, and I say that knowing that the olds, like me, would be some of the first to go.
  16. Ice maker leaking. Anti condensation heater not working in the door. Defrost timer off.
  17. Refillable glass bottles. Beer and Coke taste better from the glass refillable bottles. Milk, too. I broke numerous returnable glass milk bottles sitting on porches, waiting for the milk man, when I threw newspapers. I learned to be a better shot. Everything used to come in glass, or some sort of durable wax paper container, or thin cardboard containers. No doubt more expensive, but I don't see any other way.
  18. Yeah, but I sort 'a want to make it a gift with no strings attached...
  19. What is the cheapest way to ship guitars? I am giving a couple of mine to a friend and UPS wants $130 each...big boxes with guitar in the case, one bass weighs 30 lbs. I love the guy, but not $130 worth.
  20. One of the most disturbing images from my childhood is that of Opium Dens. Maybe a leaflet describing and picturing Opium Dens should be required reading before getting a prescription for these drugs.
  21. As I recall from many years ago, one of the best things in the world was an ice cold Pearl gulped from a returnable bottle. Returnable bottles ftw.
  22. Parrot. Machine/mechanical vs soul. Sort of spectrum type personality. Better than me, though.
  23. Thank you for posting that amazing footage. I had never seen that.
  24. Is honey "better" than sugar? Is coffee "better" than beer? Let's just leave "better" out of it. Jimmy was/is a master of a style which previously was the sole ("soul") style of older black players, much like Bill Campbell, a white boy who you would swear was black if you closed your eyes. The phrasing. The turn arounds. The vibrato. The licks. The pulls. Campbell and Jimmy were/are like no other white players, at least none that I know of anyway...Johnny Richardson flirted with that league sometimes. Stevie, I think, could play what Jimmy and Campbell played, but he just had more to say. It's not the same, at all, and to put one over the other diminishes both.
