  1. My wife works in a DFW city government. She got word yesterday that property evaluations are down across the metroplex.
  2. We were there during the Princess Marathon two years ago. The only issue was transportation to Epcot the morning of the race. Last year we flew in the day of the race and went to MK - no problems at all.
  3. This should be run in daily ads until the election.
  4. Yes, he is included. They added an intro to the program that pleads for everyone to be respectful. By the way, animatronic Trump is much more eloquent than the real thing.
  5. Museum of Art and Restaurant Gwendolyn
  6. We like Port Orleans French Quarter. It’s close to all the parks and the resort only has one bus stop. You can catch a boat to Disney Springs.

If anyone is up McKinney way, check out Local Yokal. Pair your burger with a whiskey flight.
  8. Maybe I'm misreading your post, but Animal Kingdom does serve alcohol. The Nomad Lounge is great though the service can be flaky.
  9. Should be peak season for the Brazilian tour groups, who change the scenery considerably.
  10. La Cava del Tequila is outstanding, but don't start there because you won't get much further.
  11. Two people in the house, I and my wife. I like to go to Market Street twice a week., usually Thursday and Sunday. It's hard to keep salad greens fresh for an entire week. There is also an occasional trip to Trader Joe's to pick up a supply of croutons. I have list of items I buy at Costco. When I need something on the list, I'll check the supply of everything else. On average, I pick-up about six items a trip. I cook in large quantities and package meals for the freezer. I just cooked about five pounds of pull-pork for tacos which yielded one meal about six bags for future consumption. Some weeks I don't need to purchase meat.
  12. This week's "This American Life" investigates one father's fight against conspiracy theorists (Part 1) and Alex Jones (Part 2). The segment on Alex Jones is brutal. Beware the Jabberwock
  13. I retired from teaching and believe I made sufficient money for my efforts. But across the profession, there is not enough compensation to attract a highly-qualified educator for every classroom - if that is a goal, teachers need to be paid more.
  14. My wife and I arrived in Orlando on Sunday (two days ago) and checked into Port Orleans French Quarter. An early flight allowed us to get to Magic Kingdom in the afternoon. We were able to get in Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and a few minor attractions. Dinner was at Be Our Guest. The service was fine, but I classify the food as "upscale cafeteria." We were seated in the Beast's room, which I think was a far better experience than if we were in the ballroom. I wouldn't go back, but I don't have a young daughter who is into Belle. I think Be Our Guest is the only place to meet and greet the Beast, and the wait was only about 5 minutes. We booked the dessert party for the Happily Ever After show, and that was a good decision even if we didn't eat many of the sweets. Monday was back to Magic Kingdom and dinner at California Grill. We opted to skip watching the show from the deck because we had seen it the night before and so much of the presentation is now projections onto the castle. We ended up have a good view of the fireworks from the bus stop.
  15. I was just reading the story of Vladimir Bekhterev, a doctor who examined Stalin and then made the mistake of discussing the patient. He was shortly afterwards poisoned while attending the performance of the Bolshoi Ballet.
  16. Another band aid on the lack of school finance reform. So glad we spent all that legislative energy on concealed carry and bathrooms.
  17. I read this in Sam Eagle’s voice.
  18. I hope my fireman friend (who voted for Trump) can see this as an affront to the first responders who died on 9/11.
  19. How about keeping the electoral college, but consolidating less-populous states?
  20. I mainly cook with the carbon steel, but the non-stick sure comes handy for crepes, pasta w/cheese, and those one-dish recipes we cook during the work week.
  21. I am not arguing that Finland is not doing exceptional things, but... This is misleading and the truth is often glossed over in discussions about the education system in Finland. The "one exam" is actually a series of high-stakes tests that determine which universities you can enter and which fields you can study, narrowing down your choices of profession. Are you smart and want to be a lawyer? If all the Finnish mothers took genius pills the year you were born, you may be out of luck (each year, Finnish Universities only accept a set number of students in each discipline), or you might have to study abroad and pay for your higher education. Finnish students know this and are preparing for these exams from the time they enter their first grade in school. They know they have to master the material no matter how good the teacher.
  22. 1996 - Braveheart over Babe and Apollo 13
  23. Wife got to choose yesterday and today because she is working this week and I am not; Pirates of the Caribbean 1 and 2 on New Year's Eve and 3 this afternoon. I watched King Arthur: The Tale of the Sword on Monday before the wife came home from work. It lives down to the reviews.
