Serious answer? Sometimes ceremonial rituals still mean something. My wife and I were together for more than a decade before we got married. It wasn’t something that was super important to us until it was. We decided we wanted that formality of a ceremony where we took vows in front of those that were closest to us. We chose a spot that was symbolically important* to us as a couple and had a ceremony there with around 40 people in attendance. Afterwards we had an amazing dinner and kick ass party with a gigantic bar tab that was worth every penny. Still one of my favorite days of my life. Tomorrow is our 6th wedding anniversary!
*We chose to get married at San Francisco City Hall, which is where the first marriage licenses in support of marriage equality were issued in 2004 and, subsequently, when marriage equality was finally codified in 2015 mass wedding ceremonies were performed in celebration. When I said marriage wasn’t important to us until it was, marriage equality is one of the things that made it more important to us. Love is love and all that jazz.
