  1. AT&T Stadium will be a pile of rubble if a buyer waits for that to happen.
  2. Based on the volume of text messages and emails…
  3. Boise is a great town. I’ve spent a lot of time there for work and, in a lot ways, it reminds me of the Austin that I grew up in 35ish years ago. The downtown area is trying hard to establish a scene, there’s a big university and there’s a river running through downtown. There’s also skiing and hiking right outside of town. That said, it’s pretty remote. While the airport has gotten much better, it’s still small and you won’t have many nonstop options. Politically, the city of Boise itself is pretty moderate, but get outside of that and things get a little wacky.
  4. So overturning democracy isn’t treasonous? It’s not empty rhetoric when we have a politician on the record saying he wants to end elections. Or are we just supposed to ignore what candidates for the highest office in the land say?
  5. Actively using a powerful platform to sow discord and promote the viewpoint of a politician that is on the record saying he wants to end elections in this country feels pretty treasonous to me, but you do you.
  6. No she doesn’t. She says all the quiet parts out loud. She blasts her racist crap to everyone and she’s damn proud of herself.
  7. The scenery is better at that one, but Dunlavy/Alabama is closer to the house and I’ve been shopping there since before Washington opened. Sometimes I’ll hit up Washington if I’m doing the shopping alone and have extra time.
  8. Of course he goes to Kroger on W Gray instead of the vastly superior HEB at Dunlavy and Alabama.
  9. That was kind of my point.
  10. Which will sow further discord between rural and urban America. We need to be making investments in rural infrastructure (digital, education, healthcare, etc) to make sure those folks have access to services and ability to earn a living in professional services not just as a corrections officer at the local for profit prison or as a cashier at the Wal-Mart.
  11. I hope those assholes are proud of themselves for violating the rights of a citizen and traumatizing a child. I wonder if either of those morons have children of their own.
  12. Dammit, I missed out on yet another business opportunity selling stickers to Tesla owners to make themselves feel better about driving a MAGA mobile.
  13. Great post. Appreciate your insight on this topic. It’s a subject that I don’t have the right answer on and your thoughts make a lot of sense to me. I think my head was already moving in the direction of your thoughts, but having you articulate it as you did makes it much easier for me to wrap my head around this issue. I think a certain section of our society is using this as a wedge issue out of ignorance, stupidity, hate or all of the above. Like many difficult issues, there is a high level of nuance and some people can’t think in non-binary (sort of a double meaning in this case, I guess) terms. Whatever the answer is, it has to be fair (subjective) and based in science (objective). I’m not the person to determine what either of those things are and I salute those that are working to figure it out since inevitably there will be dissension from many.
  14. Whitmire hired a new police chief. To lead one of the largest PDs in the country with more than 5,000 officers and a budget exceeding $1 billion, we’re getting Katy’s current police chief. A guy who is currently in charge of a 70 officer department in a city of 25,000. Sounds totally qualified. Chronicle Article gift link
  15. It’s pretty nice of them to build their little flag fort so you can’t get near them and accidentally get into a conversation with them.
  16. Fuck ‘em. They’ve focused on shareholder value instead of infrastructure and resiliency for far too long. If things are so bad, they can give up their government granted monopoly. Think they will do that? Debbie Does Destin?
  17. Ah, got it. Hopefully that will improve with a new boss next year.
  18. Love you, too. I’m not trying to convince you of anything. I’m just pointing out that you appear to be approaching this conundrum from primarily a financial perspective and teaching your kids good financial lessons. I’m just pointing out that there are some things more important than finances. You’ve done your calculus and made a decision that suits you. That’s cool. Doesn’t mean I have to agree or won’t question it when you post about it.
  19. Some things are more important than money. I’m guessing your kids wouldn’t think you ditching the car made by a company whose CEO and largest shareholder has openly said he thinks you are subhuman was purely a financial decision. Rather it would be taking a position on principle against a very powerful person who is using his influence to brew hate against you. Yes, you personally. He does not like you. He does not think you deserve to exist as a member of our society.
  20. You sure about that? Or just the legal profession? I’ve spent 25 years in the healthcare industry and Houston has been the easiest market for me to recruit to in my career.
  21. Digging themselves a financial hole that’s only going to get worse when the bond gets voted down. Everyone I know is treating the bond proposition as a mandate on Miles. I predict it’s going to fail miserably.
  22. It’s all going exactly according to plan. Once the state is done dismantling HISD, it will move on to the next large urban ISD on the list. Anecdotally, I have friend that I’ve known since childhood that has dedicated her career to teaching reading to kids. She lasted about six months under the Miles regime until she quit out of disgust for how bad things had gotten. She doesn’t need the salary so she has just left the profession completely. A person that had dedicated nearly 20 years to teaching kids how to read is lost forever. I’m sure there are plenty of other stories out there just like this one. Good job, everyone!
