  1. Ever applied for a security clearance? And yeah, if you're being paid multiple millions of dollars to represent a high-profile athletic program, then the standard is probably a little higher than it would be for, say, a line cook over at McDonald's.
  2. This. It's one thing to defend yourself if you are being attacked, even by a crazy woman. But in that case, you do only what you have to do to free yourself and get out of the situation. Anything else is excessive. If they have audio proving that he went far beyond doing what he needed to do to get out of the situation, then he's fucked.
  3. This is absolutely a setback, but let's not forget that Baylor won a natty less than 20 years after a major scandal in which one of their players murdered another one. We can rebuild IF (and only if) we get the right guy in place.
  4. Sigh. This is why we can't have nice things. Yes, I agree we should wait and let the facts play out, but this looks very, very bad. If he did what he is accused of, then he is done here. And probably everywhere else. Why does it always seem like we take one step forward and then two steps backward as a program?
  5. I'd rather be us than 0U right now, for sure. Cheers! [EDIT - well I meant in the context of how our respective programs are going...frankly if I were a Sooner, I wouldn't admit that fact in public, LOL.]
  6. "Hey coach, what do you think of our team's execution tonight?" "I'm all in favor of it."
  7. We said the same thing before they shitcanned Sumlin, too. Doesn't matter, the next goober they hire won't change a damn thing. Because coaches aren't superhuman gods who can fix the weird cultural issues of that place.
  8. Our defense made the plays when they had to, especially with the turnovers. And that was absolutely huge. But otherwise, our defense was a beating to watch for significant stretches. The most galling thing to me yesterday was seeing Iowa State going for it on 4th and long in their own end of the field. They knew they would make it, and sadly, I did, too. If our pass defense was even remotely close to competent, that would have been an obvious punt situation.
  9. Yeah, as I said in another comment, you're correct here. I guess I have too much PTSD from the Chuck Strong years, LOL.
  10. Oh shit, you're right. I guess I have too much PTSD from the Chuck Strong years, LOL.
  11. I want to believe, but Okie Lite and TCU both worry me. None of the upcoming games will be a cake walk. I think 3-2 is realistic to me. Hopefully Texas will rise up and exceed my expectations. Finishing 8-4 and going to a decent bowl game would be a step up for this program after the last 10 years or so in the wilderness of suckitude.
  12. Guessing they missed all the non-calls where ISU was holding our receivers for long periods of time.
  13. Glad we got the Dub, but my God we looked like ass for most of this game. Hope we get things fixed muy pronto before Okie Lite next week.

    Rhule

I've heard Heupel left OU on pretty acrimonious terms. Maybe they could kiss and make up, but who knows.

    Rhule

Yeah, Nebraska was the first landing spot for Rhule I thought of when I heard this news for today. It would make too much sense. I don't know if Rhule would be the guy to restore them to their former glory, but at minimum, he probably could at least turn that place into a "Matt Campbell at Iowa State" level of results. Rhule going to OU would be scary, but they would seriously have to tap every oil well and meth lab in Oklahoma to pull off canning Venables so soon and hiring Rhule. I'm not sure if they have that kind of scratch on hand.
  16. I think Iowa State will be a much more challenging test for Texas than OU. It's actually unbelievable to me that I can say that after over 30 years of watching Texas football. A bit of a post-OU hangover for Texas wouldn't surprise me, either. However, I also don't think that Iowa State has seen a QB like Ewers yet this season. Shapen at Baylor is probably the best QB they have faced up to now. Hard to gauge how good their defense is based on the level of competition they have played. If they sell out to stop the run, Ewers will abuse their secondary and make them pay dearly. Something like a 31-17 win for Texas seems about right to me here.
  17. They didn't have to worry about the Sooner Schooner toppling over on the field yesterday, potentially injuring the horses. Very thoughtful of them.
  18. We're in Kerrville this weekend for the MIL's birthday (no pics). After the game we had to run to HEB (it was open) for a few things. Wife and I are both wearing burnt orange. As we're walking back to the car this crypt keeper looking woman in a Boomer Sooner t-shirt walking the opposite direction waves at us to get our attention then throws the Horns down. She was about 20' away. My wife and I just looked at each other, laughed & shook our heads. She either yelled "lucky win" or "fuck your win" as we continued to our car. One of the most bizarre experiences I've ever had with someone from another fan base. If that cow had actually bothered to watch the game, there was nothing "lucky" about it. It was like watching my high school (which won all of FIVE GAMES in the four years I went there) taking on the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots. Just a complete mismatch. I really don't think OU's talent differential is all that much versus ours, but they were hampered by a new scheme, and really bad coaching and playcalling.
  19. Illinois is my other school besides Texas. I was kind of meh about the Bielma hire, as I thought he was kind of a buffoon. But I'll be damned, he has his guys playing some decent quality football this season, which is way more than I've come to expect out of Illinois most years. They are actually a late-game collapse against Indiana away from being undefeated. I don't think they can hang with Michigan, but every other game on their schedule is winnable for them. It would not shock me if they went 10-2 and snagged a really nice bowl berth. Quite a turnaround.

    49-0

As I approach 50, I have noticed it takes me a hell of a lot longer to recover from a hangover than it used to. And ain't nobody got time for that at my age. That said, I got pretty fuckin baked last night in celebration of this W.
  21. I'm shocked. After the last 10 years of watching Texas football, it's like we suddenly rediscovered that we are allowed to pass to tight ends again. I'm all aboard the JT Sanders hype train, though. I hope the dude smashes every TE record here at the 40 Acres by the time he is done here.
