Tell me about Nebraska
Personally, I'm enjoying this bit of schadenfreude way more than is probably healthy for me, after the butthurt way they left the Big XII over a decade ago.

Roadrunners vs the Illini
Illinois is my second school after Texas, so I watch their games on occasion. Have to admit I wasn't a big fan of the Bielema hire, but he was probably about as good as they were going to get. That said, congrats to Coach Traylor and UTSA. They whipped the Illini in their own house today.

Post-Game : We Won. They Lost. ULL is Ass
I really liked what I saw today, for the most part. After a decade of late-stage Mack, Strong, and Herman all underperforming, I will admit my expectations coming into this game were fairly low. So I was very pleasantly surprised by a number of things I saw today. It feels like there is a bit of a Saban-esque quality to this team, which is no surprise given that Sark tutored under Saban for a few seasons at Alabama. It was quite refreshing to see a fairly disciplined and well-coached Texas team that, for once, mostly did not beat itself with stupid penalties, turnovers, and mental mistakes. Card looked very poised and made some really nice accurate throws. OL play needs some work, but I think it will be at least serviceable sooner rather than later. I really like the ground-and-pound offense, where they kept pounding the ball and wore down Louisiana's defenders over time. Being ready for the onside kicks that Louisiana kept trying on special teams was huge. I liked the playcalling, in general. If this team can build on what it accomplished today, I think it has as good of a chance as anyone of competing for the conference. OU didn't impress me today, after giving up 35 points and nearly losing at home to Tulane. Iowa State was underwhelming against Northern Iowa. Kansas State was impressive against Stanford, though. Texas Tech will be somewhat interesting with Shough, who transferred from Oregon, although I'm not sold on them yet. They did rally late to beat UH in Houston. It was nice to see Maryland embarrassing a different Big XII team besides Texas for once today. Can't really tell a whole lot about the rest of the conference from today, as most of the rest of the teams played scrub OOC opponents. That said, I wouldn't bet just yet on this team winning all the rest of its games this season, but I am very hopeful that Sark is already moving this program in the right direction. Can't wait to see us go to Fayettenam and take it to Arky.

This. Conversely, it's not like everybody is setting their DVRs to be sure they don't miss Kentucky and South Carolina going at it in the SEC.

The hammer and sickle is actually a perfect metaphor for the Big XII, come to think of it. Texas and OU propping up the rest of the conference is straight up communism.

Yep. Texas hung with the eventual national champion (from the SEC) in baseball this year, so I feel like they will be competitive right away there. Beard is a good coach who has been recruiting like crazy, and I think there is a very high probability of near-term success there. Football will be more of a project, but being able to sell SEC to potential recruits to keep them away from aggy will only help us. Sark worked with Saban and hopefully picked up skills on how to run a tight ship. It will just depends on how well he can execute here.

So, short of poaching B1G or SEC members (not gonna happen - less money) - then the only other option for the ACC is to stand pat. There are no other big brands out there, waiting to be tapped by the ACC.

I'm in the same boat. My family is split between Tech and Texas alums. I haven't really talked with the Tech alum family members much about this, but they are usually pretty bitter toward Texas when it comes to athletics anyway, so I doubt this will change anything. Nothing good can come of even bringing it up with them.

This. If you haven't figured it out by now, everyone will bitch no matter what we do, because we're Texas. With this move, we are retaining our rivalry with OU and restarting two historical rivalries with Arky and aggy. The only longstanding series we are losing in this deal are Tech, Baylor, and TCU. I could not care any less if we ever play Baylor again, as I have zero respect for that rape and murder-enabling program. I am mildly indifferent about the other two. Since everyone is going to bitch anyway, we may as well do what's best for Texas. So here we are. Probably also worth a reminder that Herbie is an alum of Ohio State, which conveniently happens to be one of the programs that has ascended in the wake of Texas's stumbles over the last 10 years or so. I'm sure Herbie wouldn't mind keeping Texas neutered in the Big XII for as long as possible, so that Ohio State can continue to reap the benefits. Fuck them and fuck Herbie, too.

Well, they aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the shed...there is a reason Aggie jokes have been a thing for well over a century.

Hey I'm (sorta) old and I haven't subbed to a newspaper in 10 years. I kinda do miss the Sunday funnies, but most of my favorite cartoonists either died off or quit the biz.

I realize this is posturing, but what was he expecting to have happen here? "Oh - hi, Bob! It's Texas. We're going to run off and join the SEC - is that cool with you? Okay, good talk. See you later!" If Bob hasn't figured out that the Big XII has been a dead conference walking for the last 10 years, then he is even worse at his job than we thought. Apparently the Big XII blowing up was only news to Bob here.

It's the "no publicity is bad publicity" angle. The Spaceman knows he will generate hate clicks ($$$ from advertisers) every time he writes something stupid, particularly when it comes to Texas.

They are definitely on there, too. Forgot about them. Easy mistake to make on my part.

Especially since it's a day trip for probably > 90% of the people attending that game. I never went to a game at Floyd Casey or whatever the fuck they call their new stadium now, but if I ever had the urge to do so when I lived in Texas, it would be drive into Waco, go to the game, then promptly get the fuck out of town again after it was over.

Oh yeah, the thread about this on r/CFB on Reddit is utterly convinced that this is going to be the smoking gun that blows up ESPN. Lots of Cyclone and (OSU) Cowboy fans posting in that thread, too. I enjoy my share of Reddit, but r/CFB is pure cringe at times.

That's not completely true. AB 1887 prevents state government entities from using taxpayer funds to travel to prohibited states. I believe Cal, UCLA, SDSU, Fresno State, and others get around this by paying for travel to prohibited states for games directly out of their athletic budgets.

In addition to the various outs that Texas has, as people already pointed out here, I'm sure Texas's lawyers would have absolutely no problem with tying this up in discovery and pretrial motions until the year 2100 or so. You got that long to wait, Bowlsby?

I wonder if ESPN would propose this as a Big XII-AAC merger to Bowlsby, perhaps with some $$$ thrown in to ease the transition, so to speak.

Your first football game as a Longhorn
I think it was the 21-21 tie against Syracuse in 1993 at DKR. At least, that's the first one I remember. Rough times - Rice actually finished with a better record than we did that year.
