  1. Hey I'm (sorta) old and I haven't subbed to a newspaper in 10 years. I kinda do miss the Sunday funnies, but most of my favorite cartoonists either died off or quit the biz.
  2. It was 14-0.
  3. I realize this is posturing, but what was he expecting to have happen here? "Oh - hi, Bob! It's Texas. We're going to run off and join the SEC - is that cool with you? Okay, good talk. See you later!" If Bob hasn't figured out that the Big XII has been a dead conference walking for the last 10 years, then he is even worse at his job than we thought. Apparently the Big XII blowing up was only news to Bob here.
  4. It's the "no publicity is bad publicity" angle. The Spaceman knows he will generate hate clicks ($$$ from advertisers) every time he writes something stupid, particularly when it comes to Texas.
  5. They were our side chick. Yeah, I suppose we need better taste.
  6. They are definitely on there, too. Forgot about them. Easy mistake to make on my part.
  7. Especially since it's a day trip for probably > 90% of the people attending that game. I never went to a game at Floyd Casey or whatever the fuck they call their new stadium now, but if I ever had the urge to do so when I lived in Texas, it would be drive into Waco, go to the game, then promptly get the fuck out of town again after it was over.
  8. Oh yeah, the thread about this on r/CFB on Reddit is utterly convinced that this is going to be the smoking gun that blows up ESPN. Lots of Cyclone and (OSU) Cowboy fans posting in that thread, too. I enjoy my share of Reddit, but r/CFB is pure cringe at times.
  9. That's not completely true. AB 1887 prevents state government entities from using taxpayer funds to travel to prohibited states. I believe Cal, UCLA, SDSU, Fresno State, and others get around this by paying for travel to prohibited states for games directly out of their athletic budgets.
  10. In addition to the various outs that Texas has, as people already pointed out here, I'm sure Texas's lawyers would have absolutely no problem with tying this up in discovery and pretrial motions until the year 2100 or so. You got that long to wait, Bowlsby?
  11. I wonder if ESPN would propose this as a Big XII-AAC merger to Bowlsby, perhaps with some $$$ thrown in to ease the transition, so to speak.
  12. I think it was the 21-21 tie against Syracuse in 1993 at DKR. At least, that's the first one I remember. Rough times - Rice actually finished with a better record than we did that year.
  13. I'm dead. Amazing work. Put this in the Louvre.
  14. Burger King is hiring. Seen it all over the news lately.
  15. Also not terribly impressed with Champaign, Iowa City, Bloomington, or West Lafayette, either. But Evanston is pretty rad...especially since you can just hop on the El and party in Chicago.
  16. I now fully understand @SydneyCarton's salty post while ago. Just saying.
  17. Amateur hour adventures such as exactly this should be Exhibit A for why we are leaving this dump of a conference behind.
  18. Maybe it will play out like this: Chair: "Do we have a motion to accept Texas and Oklahoma into the SEC unanimously?" Unnamed SEC School Prez: "So moved." Chair: "Can we get a second?" Another SEC School Prez: "Seconded." Chair: "All right. All those in favor?" [almost everyone says "Aye"] Chair: "All opposed? Texas A&M, you keep your damn mouth shut."
  19. My vote: Open with Arky Keep Texas-OU exactly where it is, has been, and forever shall be Play aggy on Turkey day I know, I get it...aggy is insufferable and a lot of you want to punish them for their asshattery. But dammit, Turkey day/weekend just hasn't been the same for the last 10 years. Bring 'em on.
  20. That's a strange hill to die on, Pac-12 - but if you want to go the way of the Big XII, be our guest.
  21. I remember it well - used TEX all four years I was at Texas to register for classes. You young'uns will never know the agony of Dr. Livingston's voice telling you: "MATH 408D ... WAS NOT ADDED" The old-timer upperclassmen used to tell us horror stories of actually having to stand in line at the Frank Erwin Center and manually register, pre-TEX.
  22. I came in with a bunch of credits from AP exams and community college, which helped. Plus my hometown was pretty shit, so I hung around Austin for a couple of summers and took summer school. No regrets, but maybe I could have dragged it out a bit more...LOL.
  23. I can confirm. In addition to my undergrad from Texas, I have a graduate degree from a university in the midwest which is generally not known for fielding competitive sports teams. I have a token amount of gear from that school, and I do wear it on occasion. But over 90% of the time, I wear my Texas gear. I look back on my four years in Austin very fondly, they went by way too quickly.
