  1. There are so many things to say...yet I don’t know what to see other than I am disappointed.
  2. Trying, I repeat, trying to get some work done today from the 75650 but...you know, Texas/OU weekend!! TEXAS!!!!!
  3. Beat me to it. Came here to post that. He was above 1000 yards only 4 or 5 times with one of those years at 2000 yards or so. About 7500 yards for his career.
  4. The cameraman trained the camera on them for a while but some dude kept getting in the way.
  5. Similar incident for me in the Wasatch Mountains just outside of SLC. Was hiking alone and was walking through an open meadow and came around a corner and walked up on a cow and her baby moose. Being that I was out in the open and cover was sparse I retreated to the nearest tree where I was stuck for about 20 minutes waiting for the pair to exit the area. The mom kept a sharp lookout.
  6. Love old vehicle photos and classic roadside signs. Nice job.
  7. From the immortal words of Fred Akers, “A win is a win is a win”. Would I have liked it to be more dominant? Of course but the team did what it took to win. The previous two coaches would have lost this game.
  8. In on page 1 of this wonderful tome of Horns dominance over the cockroaches.
  9. Hard(ly) working from my home office today in the 75650! TEXAS!!!!!
  10. Wow, just wow. What a crazy catch.
  11. This ranks up there with providing party gifts to kids that attend your kids’ birthday party.
  12. It will not end well. When my now ex and I bought our first house she decided that she did not like the wallpaper (when that was in style) in the master bath. So we agreed to replace it. But first the old pattern had to be removed. So I rented a steamer to remove the wallpaper so that I could remove it once I got home from work. Well, she could not wait for me to do it. While I was away at work she got in there and removed the wallpaper herself. The problem with that was that she got the wall too moist and pulled the paper off of the drywall along with the wallpaper. I ended up having to refloat the whole bathroom. What a mess.
  13. From my office in the 76502, only making it 'til noon today and then off to play some hoops. FIGHT!!!!!
  14. Nothing covert about that deal...
  15. That would be nice, but, no. There is just something about me contributing money to someone else for them to enjoy. So, with that, I would not feel comfortable in soliciting money to drive around the US on vacation at others' expense.
  16. Perfect. Many thanks.
  17. How long were you there? Was your time there adequate? If I go by myself then time is not a factor. However, if I take my girlfriend then time is more critical due to work commitments.
  18. I have a lot of vacation to burn so I am thinking about hopping in the truck and heading North to Teddy Roosevelt NP as my primary objective sometime in mid-October. Any of you ever spent any time there? I plan on starting my official research tomorrow but thought I would check in here first. i live in NE Texas and am accustomed to driving a lengthy amount (15 to 16 hours per day if needed). i have spent a lot of time in western SD and eastern WY but never been to TRNP despite going to Bismarck on business multiple times. On the way up I thought that I might hit the Badlands again. If my girlfriend goes with me I also thought about taking her to Rushmore, Wind Cave, Crazy Horse, Deadwood, Spearfish Canyon and Devil's Tower since she has never been up that way. I have been to all of those places multiple times but would really like some insight on Teddy Roosevelt NP and its site seeing and hiking opportunities.
  19. I saw 14 concerts at the FEC while I was a student from 1984 thru 1988. I paid to go see 4 of them: Barry Manilow (12/84) with my girlfriend. Hall & Oates (4/85). Who did not like them back then? They were huge. Tina Turner (12/85) with my girlfriend. Kool & the Gang (5/87). Again, they were huge then. In the Fall of 1987 I began working at the FEC as part of the "security team" as a student. I was typically placed near the stage because I was rather fit then and could help prevent people from jumping up on the stage. I saw 10 concerts plus many Disney On Ice and other events that are not considered concerts. Saw the following concerts: Eddie Murphy's "RAW" (10/87). His people had stacks of backstage passes that they distributed to all of the good looking girls during the concert. I was stationed on stage left. The Cars (10/87). Loved their music but the concert was boring. I was stationed on stage left. The Oak Ridge Boys (10/87). I was not at the stage for this one. I was in a section to the right of the stage. U2 "Joshua Tree Tour". I was stationed right in front of the stage. The best concert that I saw at the FEC. I worked this one all day long. People were showing up early in the morning that did not have tickets. A bunch of girls were chatting up the roadies outside in hopes of scoring some tickets. Some of them did as I saw them later that night at the concert. During the concert Bono randomly selected someone from the crowd to jump up on the stage to strum the guitar. Bono showed him what to do and then the guy just rips into the song and moves around the stage. U2 are stunned. The crowd is going crazy. Bono finally gathers himself and states that they always get someone out of the audience to come up on stage to participate and that this is the first time that they had selected someone that could actually play. Bono bowed to the guy. The place was going crazy. Come to find out the guy was in a local band. An incredible moment for sure. Immediately after the concert was over I was sent backstage to where the large overhead doors were leading outside. I was told to go outside to join the security team. Outside there were a 100 or so people that had gathered back there in hopes of seeing U2 when they left the arena. After a bit the overhead doors flew open and the limos rushed off with most of the crowd chasing the cars leaving just a hand full of fans out back. After about 15 minutes or so out walks U2 from a side door to mingle with the remaining fans. I was part of the detail that walked around with the band for the next 45 minutes or so. It was awesome. Of course this was the days before everyone had cameras on their phones. Later that night the band went to Antone's to play with the house band. Pink Floyd (11/87). Saw them two nights in a row. A very "chill" concert. I was stationed on stage right. Def Leppard (11/87). Great concert. Had to haul one drunk person away. I was in a section to the right of the stage. Fleetwood Mac (11/87). Stage left. Prior to the concert a guy with a British accent tried to walk pass me to the backstage. I stopped him because he did not have his credentials. He argued with me that he was a drummer in the band. I told him "sorry" but he was not getting past me. So he walked off. Sure enough, once the concert started he was on stage as a back-up drummer. A decent concert. Heart (11/87). A "meh" concert. Van Halen OU812 concert. A typical rocking concert. I was stationed by the sound board in the front middle of the arena. Below are images of my U2 concert "security" T-shirt that I still have. Both of my kids wore this shirt to high school when they had "80's dress up" days.
  20. To me, Kevin Costner sounds much like Coyote.
  21. I went from going by “Mike” in college to “Michael” because one of my professors kept calling me “Mack”.
  22. I hate movies that have knife cutting or slashes in them. I can watch someone get beat up or shot all day long in a movie but a knife scene is a no no for me. To make it worse why must exaggerated knife slashing sounds accompany the scene? I carry a knife and use it often but it does not make a sound.
  23. It did not hit me as a "fan" until I attended my first game as a high school senior when I went to the Texas/Rice game in September 1983 and watched Edwin Simmons break a long run. I was sitting in the upper deck with my then girlfriend and her family. Her dad was a Federal Judge and a UT grad so he had always talked the school up. Plus my girlfriend would be attending UT in a couple of years and her sister would be there as well. Up until that moment it was just a school that I had been accepted to. That was also the first time that I had sat foot on the campus. We had toured the campus earlier on Saturday. I was definitely hooked! Being that I was a first generation college attendee I really did not know what all was going on. I had several scholarship offers to play baseball elsewhere but none of the schools offered the degree program that I was interested in. My dad was not exactly thrilled that I passed up the opportunity to play baseball. To this day I believe that it still bothers him a bit. Nonetheless, both of my parents are proud of what I have achieved albeit it is more reserved with my dad (due to his upbringing). I enrolled in the Fall of 1984 and was blown away on the first day of class! I thought that I was going to be in for a great sports ride as the Horns started the season ranked number 1 under Fred Akers. We ended up tying OU in the rain at the Cotton Bowl and then went on a slide the remainder of that year and for the next subsequent years while in was in college. As I age the more meaningful it is to me to be an alum from UT. I cheer for them through thick or thin. I have also learned, with age, to temper my expectations. My daughter and son grew up being Texas fans and attending games and have the same passion for the school as well. My daughter only really considered Texas as her school of choice. She did visit some other schools just to appease the ex-wife. I finally shut down the other school visits as it was a waste of time and money. She graduated from Texas in 2014. My son elected to go to and graduate from SFA because hunting and fishing were easier to do on the weekends (priorities I guess?). I still make at least one home game and one road game (usually WVU) per year and also always go to the Alamo Bowl each year. Hookem!
  24. Back from Vegas and in the 75650 taking the day off! Prepping for a great weekend! FIGHT!!!!!
