  1. If he is going to be hoisting the Heisman then there is a good chance of some other hardware being hoisted as well.
  2. It is times like this one that the Good Lord takes over. Almost two years ago to the day, I was driving home from the airport after returning from a business trip. About a week later I was planning on driving up to Raleigh, NC to be there when my daughter was expected to have my first grandchild. As I was driving home from the airport she calls me and tells me that she is already in the hospital and is in labor. I drive the rest of the way home, repack my bags, and head out from NE Texas to Raleigh, NC, a solid 15 to 16 hour drive under normal circumstances in my trusty truck. I was driving so fast that I was making a line of telephone poles look like a picket fence the whole way. I may have passed 2 cops along the way but they were all in the other lane. I got to Raleigh with about 3 hours to spare before my granddaughter was born.
  3. In May of 2017 a co-worker and I were in Spearfish, SD for a mining conference. We had some free time so we decided to go see Mt. Rushmore. The speed limit in that area is around 35 mph or so and we were in a rental SUV. We were coming down the mountain around 50 mph or so and a Park Ranger whips around and flashes his lights so I pull over. As the Ranger approaches the car I roll down the window and the first thing that he asks is, "When was the last time that there was marijuana in this vehicle?" My buddy and I just looked at him with a "WTH are you talking about?" look. Finally I said, "I have no earthly idea, this is a rental." After checking my license he let us go with just a warning. Come to find out that at that time they were pulling all vehicles over that had Colorado plates on them to check for marijuana. I am guessing that he thought that we could have potentially been mules or something like that. Really didn't have to say anything to get out of the ticket other than just look dumb.
  4. Did you get to thank her later?
  5. He should never read “kindergarten chats” by Louis Sullivan. I had to read it in college.
  6. I ran out of breath reading this.
  7. I basically took these same photos from my trip to the area back in late November 2020. The crowds were not too bad then. Would not go now because of the crowds.
  8. If hiking is new to you then I advise against Angel’s Landing. There are plenty of other hikes to do that aren’t as tough. You can also go to the western part of the park which is much less visited. Just be careful on the Kolob Terrace Road as it is open range for a cattle ranch. There are Black Angus all over the place which are very hard to see at night. I came across an accident of a sporty SUV from California that was totaled after hitting a bull at night.
  9. Yes, I had that dream multiple times for years after I graduated from Texas. I also had the dream a few times where I thought that I had dropped a class only to get my grades at the end of the semester to find out that I had not dropped the class.
  10. I have seen people just standing and riding the moving sidewalk and talking on their phone or to the person behind, them not paying attention, and taking a spill once the belt gets to the end of the line. I just step over them and keep moving.
  11. In 2009 I am flying out of Moatize, Mozambique. At that time Moatize was little more than a village and was just opening up to new development due to the influx of international mining companies coming in. I am booked on a commuter flight from Moatize to Maputo. As we are going through security I notice a villager carrying about 30 lbs of raw meat with him wrapped in newspaper and in a cardboard box without a top. Security lets him through. Once on the plane this individual places the box in the overhead bin. I am watching with fascination as I notice that the box is noticeably dark and wet on the bottom. As the plane is steeply climbing it goes into a sharp banked turn and out from the overhead bin all of this "meat juice" begins to pour out from the bin. It was disgusting. Fortunately for me I was sitting on the opposite aisle so I was not drenched in the fluid.
  12. Act stupid on a plane and you get this. No sympathy from me.
  13. I am always friendly with the FA’s, especially during the boarding process, and since I am a frequent flyer I am boarding early and if there is an advantage to be gained I am all for it. This is especially true if I have a crappy seat due to an impromptu trip or a rebooked flight, etc. and I am looking to move. I usually let them know that I will move if there is a better seat that becomes available. This has worked more than once.
  14. This is how I do it. If I see that they are ready and being efficient about moving then I will hold my place, however, if I see that they have not made an attempt to get ready prior to exiting then I move on. It is a judgment call. Kind of like the 3 second "in the lane" violation in basketball.
  15. Ha ha! I was thankful for the oxygen enriched room at the JW Marriott in Cusco!
  16. I’ve come across cigarette butts on many trails even at “altitude”. I am huffing and puffing my way to the summit with my gear and someone has the extra lung capacity for a smoke?!!
  17. Do you own a copy of Mannheim Steamroller’s Christmas album? This made me laugh!
  18. This is me too.
  19. Typically nothing wrong with standing up once the plane gets to the gate. Just stand at your row and don’t try to advance. I stand up quickly to keep the idiots from storming the gates.
  20. On a commuter flight out of SHV a couple of years ago and some jackwad placed his small carry-on in the overhead opposite his seat (not directly above him) in the middle of the bin leaving some space on either side but not large enough to place anything else there. Next older guy comes along and slides the dude’s bag over a bit so that he could put his carry-on up there as well. First dude goes ballistic and launches into a cursing tirade to the old dude about moving his bag. I stand up and tell the first dude to shut up that there are a bunch of women on the flight and I am sure that they do not care to hear such language. Dude had an “oh shit” reaction and shut up immediately. In return I was thanked (verbally) by all of the women (no pics; mostly elderly) on the flight.
  21. Well, crap. I am making my first visit to Vermont in a couple of weeks for some vacation time hiking. I will be staying in the Killington area before driving over to Acadia National Park. My image and expectation is now ruined!!!
  22. This, plus when you are being generous and stop your vehicle to allow someone to walk across and you make eye contact and motion them across and they proceed to walk at the most leisurely slow pace that they can in front of you.
  23. This is my move as well. I also usually stand so that the folks on my row can all exit before I do as well since they are scrambling from a middle or window seat. What also gets to me are the folks that wait to pack all of their crap up once disembarking has started. There are times where they will stand in the aisle, blocking it while they put stuff back into their backpack or other carry-on luggage preventing the rest of the passengers from quickly exiting.
  24. Safaris are awesome and somewhat hard to describe as many people associate a "park" or "reserve" as being fenced in with "tame" animals. Going on a safari is nothing like that or visiting a zoo. I have been to Krueger and Pilanesberg multiple times and it never gets old. Glad you were able to experience it. FYI, I fly out of SHV with a connection in ATL and then a direct flight to JNB all on Delta. Pilanesberg is not too far outside of JNB for a decent countryside drive. I take a commuter flight up to Krueger.
