  1. That is a bit crazy. Last weekend a guy wanted $20 for a picture. I offered $15. He said, "No, the best I can do is $16".
  2. Not a fan of the Royals but I was in London a few years ago and I was able to observe "Trooping the Colo(u)r" Birthday Parade for the Queen. It was pretty neat to see the Welsh Guards, Grenadier Guards, Scots Guards and the Coldstream Guards, along with the Royal Family and other dignitaries in all of their regalia parade down the avenue leading from Buckingham Palace.
  3. My first post in this thread and I have not read the thread in its entirety so apologies if already covered but: I collect WW2 memorabilia so I am always going to flea markets, antique shops, and militaria/gun shows. When I ask how much that they will take for something they give me a number. I usually counter unless I know that we are too far apart on the deal. When I do give a counter they go into full-mode selling speech describing what I am looking at and how "rare" it is and its inherent value.
  4. I (almost 55) still play full-court basketball. Most of the guys are in their late 20's to mid-to-late 30's. I give it my best but these guys are so quick. I hold my own but holy cow it is a full-time effort! Today a guy did a spin move on me and I went to shuffle my feet to block his move but he stepped on my left foot and down I went twisting around. I was going down face first but luckily was able to get my hands down first landing in a push up position before my chest hit the ground saving my face. Slightly strained my chest muscles and received a strawberry on my right knee (multi-purpose floor). All of the youngsters were concerned about my health but I popped right up. I am sure that tomorrow I will feel it a bit more as the stiffness will set in.
  5. can't make out the LOL?
  6. Why would the University go through the process of initiating an investigation of the song with a multi-background committee, that according to some will make a recommendation to keep the song, but to only have the University ultimately retire it? Is your crystal ball better than the school's?
  7. This and: Don’t sit too close to the TV. It will hurt your eyes.
  8. It was definitely a church thing. I never questioned why at the time although I would find it odd that it did not stop me from having to do other things like mowing the yard or something like that. My dad was rather strict thus I did not ask. Over the years, though still being an old school strict person, he has fished on Sunday’s while on vacation.
  9. Son: I can't find the keys to my safe and I cannot remember the code or find the paper with the code written on it. Wife: I was cleaning up and I put them in a safe place. Dad: Where is that? Wife: I can't remember.
  10. I did not watch all of the interview as I only caught the end. Based upon my limited viewing and listening to what Harrison said and then hearing what Strahan said, my initial thought was “WTH Strahan, what do you want him to say?” IIRC, Strahan even cited all of the things that Harrison was doing; learning, see an expert, etc.
  11. I read that as well and thought it was odd to make that comment. Unless the paper is trying to make this a Cloak Room topic.
  12. "Out of the Fog" released in 1941 starring John Garfield and Ida Lupino with Thomas Mitchell, John Qualen and Eddie Albert. A tailor (Mitchell) and a cook (Qualen) plot to kill a Brooklyn racketeer (Garfield) demanding protection money for their boat. Naturally the female lead (Lupino), who is the daughter of the tailor, falls for the racketeer but ultimately sees the light and goes back to Albert, the steady boyfriend. Nice, quick movie running just under 1:30 hours. A crime movie with a bit of humor. Enjoyed it.
  13. I really enjoy the old neon signs. I enjoy driving so when I go places I prefer to drive versus flying since I fly so much for work (at least used to) and I generally try to take the roads less traveled. As such, I am always driving past old buildings and signs. I keep saying that I am going to stop and take pictures of the signs but...I don't except on occasions!
  14. My local TV station ran a story on this last night. Though they showed both sides of the story it was still probably 60/40 to 70/30 slanted toward the ones that wanted it removed. To the casual observer, who fails to do critical thinking or any thinking at all, I can see how the opinion is formed to have it removed.
  15. "Little Caesar" released in 1930 starring Edward G. Robinson along with Douglas Fairbanks Jr. and Stanley Fields. An early gangster movie. The "dicks" in this movie crack me up as they play tough with the gangsters. First time to watch this one. Enjoyed it. "The Maltese Falcon" released in 1941 starring Humphrey Bogart with Mary Astor, Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet. An all-time classic. A repeat watch for me.
  16. Krueger Park in South Africa sunrises, sunset and a Lilac-Breasted Roller. I have always enjoyed my visits to Africa.
  17. I receive calls from current UT students asking me to donate to the school. I am going to start my own poll on what they think of the song as that will be my leading comment after they ask me for more money.
  18. This is where the breakdown is. No one wants to compromise or take the time to understand anymore. The mob mentality takes over and things quickly escalate to a point of no return even if proven/disproven by fact otherwise.
  19. I will be 55 in early July. I am still looking for the line between staying active and over doing it!
  20. Another fixture of my youth gone. RIP Irv.
  21. Yep, my DVR is full of classics recorded off of TCM.
  22. Uh, okay I guess? Is this a thing? So confused.
