  1. "The Public Enemy" released in 1931. A classic gangster flick starring James Cagney with James Woods and a brief appearance by Jean Harlow. Two hoodlums rise up from the poverty-stricken slum life to become petty thieves, bootleggers and cold-blooded killers. An early gangster movie that helped cement Cagney in these types of roles. Enjoyed it. "Destination Tokyo" released in 1943. A War era propaganda film typical of the time. It stars Cary Grant supported by John Garfield and, for comic relief, Alan Hale. A submarine captain handles Tokyo Bay, depth charges, a lodged bomb and a crewman's rushed appendectomy. First time to see both of these films. Did not dissapoint.
  2. Occasionally when I sleep, too much of my body goes to sleep. While sleeping from time to time my hands will partially go to sleep with just my pinky and ring fingers going "numb".
  3. Do you ever get scared or nervous prowling around in some of these areas? Some of the locations appear a little "rough". Looks like you could easily be mugged and your equipment pawned for an easy fix! Or are you recognized as that crazy guy with a camera and they just leave you alone?!
  4. Yep. Went online to look for videos to watch and came across the site. Ordered mine through Amazon and it will take just over a month for delivery. Must be printing on demand!
  5. I have 8 large crepe myrtles. I hadn't even thought about them. I scratched the loropetalum and Indian Hawthorns; did not see any green. I have a bunch of these and they are massive. The azaleas showed some green so hopefully they will pull through.
  6. My azaleas. Note how green the leaves are along the ground. These were all under the snow pack. I have 8 large azaleas about 5' in diameter. Indian Hawthornes not looking too good either. I have 18 of these around the house. These are a bit green along the bottom too. I guess I should have tried covering all of my plants?
  7. I also have a lot of Pampas Grass that I am afraid that I will lose as well. I am concerned that my entire front yard will be a redo.
  8. Anyone else enjoy watching the TravelTalk segments shown on TCM between feature movies? These short "films/documentaries" were made from the 1930's thru the 1950's. I find them very interesting as they feature places and people during a time when the world was a much larger place and in some sense still a mystery outside of your local area. The films reflect the culture and time of the era before many of the cultures of the people was changed or adapted to more modern times. It is a bit nostalgic to see how things were in a more "simple" time. You will also find that some of the terminology used in the films are not always "politically correct". I just ordered the 3-volume DVD set which contains 186 episodes. Looking forward to viewing it.
  9. "Keep the Powder Dry" released in 1945 starring Lana Turner with Laraine Day and Susan Peters. A debutante, a serviceman's bride and a girl from a military family joins the WAC's. A typical War time feel good flick. Turner and Day are lookers. "Slightly Dangerous" released in 1943 starring Lana Turner with Robert Young and Walter Brennan. A former boss of a small town soda jerk finds her posing as a New York heiress and falls in love with her. A nice rom-com from back in the day. Did I already say that Turner is a looker? "Crossfire" released in 1947 this mystery/crime movie stars three Roberts (Young, Mitchum and Ryan). Wonder if something like that has happened again where the main stars all have the same first name? A GI (Mitchum) helps a pipe-smoking detective (Young) trap an anti-Semitic soldier (Ryan) for murder.
  10. Here in NE Texas. My loropetulem, Indian Hawthornes and azaleas look horrible. They are about 18 years old and are quite large. Hope they recover. The leaves on my fig ivy will already fall of to the touch. I am sure that it will come back because this has happened before. Not so sure about the others. I had already moved my ferns and other potted plants to my greenhouse but lost power and the heater went off. They are not looking good either. A lot of money and green thumb sweat equity potentially down the drain.
  11. Came here to post this. Good stuff. Have watched every episode. I also like taking in all of the National Park specials. Makes you want to take a Road Trip.
  12. My ex-wife has selective memory. And, we all know what that means. While we were still married, and when our son was still using a bottle for feeding, we had an incident. She decides to boil the nipples for the bottles to sterilize them. There were about a dozen of them. This is during the summer while she was off for summer break (she is a teacher). So while she is boiling the nipples she goes outside to check the mail. Other neighbors are outside so she begins to talk to the other ladies that are home. She forgets all about the nipples on the stove. Some time later she goes back into the house. As she is opening the door smoke comes out along with a horrible odor. She immediately calls 911. The local volunteer fire department arrives of which we personally know some of them. As they are jumping off of the truck they ask her what the problem is? She tells them, "I burned my nipples!" (Sorry no pics). Long story short, the oil from the burned nipples caused us to have to replace all of the carpet in the house, all of the fabric furniture including mattresses, some of the kid's stuffed toys and had to repaint the inside of the house. To get the odor out they brought in some ozone machines to replenish the air. Some how or another this caused some of the ceiling fans to quit working and caused condensation in some of the windows that were not sealed properly. So replacement of some windows and ceiling fans were in order. Thankfully the 2 kids were outside with her at the time.
  13. I travel internationally for business. 31 different countries and counting. I always lead with the same, I am a Texan. People eat that up more so than just being from the States. Their image of Texas is cowboys, cattle, guns, oil, and pick up trucks.
  14. Does Red do business in NE Texas? You know, geography and all.
  15. I bought a Honda Crosstour a few years ago for my now ex-wife where Manziel's dad was the Sales Manager. Received a "thank you" card in the mail with the dealership logo on the letterhead. It also had the aggy logo centered on the bottom of the page.
  16. Beat me to it. This movie was horribad. It did a great disservice to the Navajo Code Talkers. As excited as I was about the potential of this movie when it came out, my disappointment was 10 fold more.
  17. Just watched this again. I appreciate it more each time I watch. Funny movie.
  18. Looks and sounds about right. Bless her heart. Hope the facts worked out in your favor. Just another reason I drive a truck.
  19. The first step is just a reminder
  20. Back story please. Based upon the PH ribbon he received multiple wounds. Great grouping.
  21. I do a lot of reverse parking as a habit from being in the mining industry. As a courtesy of those that can’t seem to pay attention when walking, I keep my hitch under my backseat and not installed so that others won’t bang their shins or knees when walking along a pathway.
  22. Love me some Andy Griffith Show. Barney makes the show.
  23. It is amazing what people toss aside. I collect WW2 memorabilia as seen in the Hobbies section here as well. I have pics and Western Union Telegrams stating that their husband/son has been KIA. Plus other stuff that you would think that family members would want.
  24. I am sure that taking some of these photos comes with some risks! I bet you come across a lot of different stuff; some good and some bad. I see in the second photos a snapshot of a soldier. That is right up my alley especially if there is a unit patch on their shirt/uniform from WW2.
  25. I will ignore this and wait for a better solution.
