I actually had to take a hair dryer to my freezer as well for good reason. Lost electrical power to the house. The ice maker thawed and then re-froze. This created a block of ice that essentially connected my ice maker to the external dispenser that was several inches thick. Could not open the door more than about an inch. I could not get anything in there to chip the ice away and I was afraid I was going to rip the guts out of the ice maker and dispenser as I tugged on the door. I did not have the patience to let it thaw so I got the hairdryer out and knocked it out rather quickly.

Anxious to see this. And yes, the barbershop scenes should be could and should be lengthy. I wonder if there will be out-takes during the credits?

Official "Fuck this stupid ass-commercial" thread
mininghorn88 replied to Prepuce of Doom's topic in Movies and TV
I don’t get all of the med commercials. Patient: No doctor, I don’t want to take the med that you are prescribing. I want to take “X”. Doctor: Why is that? Patient: I saw this commercial yesterday and it said that med “Y” is the way to go. Doctor: Here, sign this waiver. -
Very cool story and picture. Keep the story alive.

I would go back to the high wasted-over the belly pants if they were fashionable like they wore in the past. The stomach is hard to keep in check the older you get. Once it begins to pooch you are a goner no matter what you do. Plus heredity does not help. Even when I was a work-out nut I never had a washboard stomach. My arms, legs, chest all still look decent for my age but my stomach? Holy hell.

Watched this one tonight. Not bad. Audrey Long is a looker. Tierney had a rough go at regular life too. His real-life was probably not too far off of his character in this movie.

I am never so lucky to buy stuff at a bargain such as a going out of business sale! Most of the unit photos do have the unit info and date. Some have info written on the back As time allows I could get them scanned or at least take a nice photo of the written info as a starter.

Correct. Was for almost 30 years. However, the house was designed to accommodate my collection. The hallway and upstairs room were approved by her at the time as a space for my collection. I spread it out to the other room post-divorce.

I have been doing a bit of re-arranging and updating my inventory recording of my collection and thought I would share a few new photos. Stairwell leading up to War Room #1. All of the pics on the walls are period photos, ads out of Life Magazine, or other period ephemera. There are a couple of recent photos of WW2 sites that I visited. War Room #1. This mainly my "smalls room". Headgear, patches, pics, books, medals, field gear, patches, etc. War Room #2 (Uniform Room)

I drive a truck. It is easier to fall out than crawl out. Finally got running boards too.

My kids are all adults now but my son had me when he was around 5. Me: Quit running in the house!! 5yo Son: I am not running! Me: Yes you were. (assuming as such) 5yo Son walks over to me. Serious look on his face. Takes my hand and places it on his heart. 5yo Son: Dad, now if I were running wouldn't my heart be beating fast? I had no words to say. The son became a sprinter in high school and was the anchor leg on all of the relays. And yes, it was a 4A (now 5A) public school.

Sounds like I need to add this to my “old westerns to watch list”. I have several that I have DVR’d off of TCM.

About 10 to 15 years ago I had plantar fasciitis as well. My podiatrist recommended 3/4 orthopedic inserts (plastic/foam combo) that had a pronounced arch support. That worked for me within a couple of months. Once it went away I quit using the inserts. I have not had an issue since then.

I have just read this thread in its entirety as I am just now discovering it. This thread has made me laugh more so than any other thread on Surly. Reality is better than fiction! I will be 55 this summer and I am in fairly decent shape for my age. I have only missed 2 days of work in 32 years due to illness. Strep throat once and a viral infection that the docs could not land on that gave me night sweats and temperature at night and an overall tiredness. It eventually went away. I am very active as I do a lot of hiking and I try to play full-court basketball 3 days a week. Most of the guys I play with are 15 years or more younger than me and some are the age of my kids (25 and 28). I try to play softball still but my vision screws with me. I can still hit OK but trying to judge a pop-up is difficult while playing with or without glasses. Contacts are out with me because I have a phobia about touching my eyeball. It gives me the hibbee-jibbees. I do take meds for high blood pressure and cholesterol (both hereditary). A couple of years ago I was in Peru about to visit a mine-site at 14,000 feet plus in altitude and I was required to do a physical. So there I am in a "clinic" in Lima having an EKG performed. The doc did not like the result so they insisted that I do a stress test there on the spot. I did an extended version of the test to ensure that I was OK. Between my broken Spanish and his broken English it was determined that I had "blockage" in my heart but he still gave me clearance to go up to elevation and visit the mine. Naturally I was a bit worried. So I declined on visiting the mine. I get the medical records from the clinic and bring them home with me. I visit my GP and he does an EKG as well and gets the same result. Now on to a cardiologist. His first words were "hmmmm and ooooh". Not what you want to hear. Major concern for me now. So I ask. He said that if it were a plumbing issue (blockage) then I would not have been successfully able to do the stress test to the extent that I did, He said that I have an electrical issue. One side of my heart fires just before the other side does. The delay in the firing appears as a blockage. He said that he could reset the timing but that I was probably born that way. Not too much to worry about. I did tell him that my heart races sometimes on its own. He said that they would have to catch that when it is doing it to determine the real cause. He speculated what it was but was not overly concerned. Come to find out I have SVT but that is more scary than harmful. Of course with me knowing what it is does not bother me anymore. I control it with meds and when my heart does race I know how to bring it back down to a normal rate. My cardiologist has suggested an ablation but with the frequency that I have an episode I have elected not to do that. It does suck getting old as I do have a knee that clicks. Have a big toe that hurts like a mother when the weather changes (an old high school football injury). I do a lot more planning when I get ready to do something! And yes, stretching is key. Since Covid has disrupted basketball some and I find myself working from home more, I go for walks throughout the day, do several reps of pushups throughout the day, climb the stairwell in the house just sitting and using my arms to press, lift and propel myself upwards. I go up the flight of stair just using my arms in about 30 to 35 seconds. I also try to do planks and stretch throughout the day. What bothers me the most is the acid reflux I get if I do not watch what I eat. It burns like crazy but I usually just pop a Tums and I am Ok.

I cannot stay awake on the plane. Pre-Covid I was flying 100K miles per year mainly on international flights. Never can do any in-depth work on the plane because I always doze off. I usually just watch movies and do some crossword puzzles.

That is nice. My dealer put a sticker above my sliding window on the back, an emblem on my tailgate and dealer plate holders. I immediately scraped the sticker off. Am considering taking a heat gun to the emblem on the tailgate to remove it too. of course the plate holders came off quickly too. They should pay me or give me a discount on the purchase if they want me to drive around advertising for them.

Nice looking truck. What do you think about the tailgate with all of the options? Where are all of the dealer logos and emblems?

Virginia City (1940) with Errol Flynn, Miriam Hopkins, and Randolph Scott directed by Michael Curtiz. A Union spy, a Rebel spy, a saloon singer and an outlaw via for a wagon train of Confederate gold in Nevada. Humphrey Bogart played the outlaw. It included Alan Hale and Guinn "Big Boy" Williams as Flynn's sidekicks. Frank McHugh played the nervous insurance salesman. Ward Bond also had a brief shot as well as a guard watching a gate. The gun fights crack me up in it as it looks like they are trying to throw the bullets out of guns. The pistols start out almost vertical and they throw their arms forward to shoot. Looks funny. A nice western even with the WTH moments of how do you miss shooting someone that is 5 feet away.

I think the ratio was something like 1 in 8 soldiers actually seeing combat during WW2. I could be wrong but tend to remember that.

Just finished Howard Hawkes' Red River starring John Wayne and Montgomery Clift....for the first time. How have I not seen this classic before??!!

Watched The Searchers last night. It is an all-time great. The letter reading and fist-fight scenes crack me up. For me, John Wayne plays a likeable unlikeable person. Ward Bond delivers as a minister/captain in the Texas Rangers.

A few years ago I was in Belgium and Luxembourg. I had the opportunity to visit the US Cemetery in Luxembourg where 5 soldiers referenced/featured in the Band of Brothers and General Patton are buried. Seeing their graves hit me like a ton of bricks. Sgt. Warren H. (Skip) Muck died in the Ardennes Forrest, Foy, Belgium. He was killed along with his buddy Alex Penkala when an artillery round hit their foxhole. PFC Alex M. Penkala died in the Ardennes Forrest, Foy, Belgium. PFC John T. Julian died in Bastogne, Belgium. PFC Kenneth J. Webb died in Bastogne, Belgium PFC Patrick H. Neill died liberating Foy, Belgium Patton
