  1. Just watched "Easy Living" starring Victor Mature released in 1949. It also stars Lizabeth Scott and Lucille Ball. In this drama Mature is a football star that is trying to hang on despite having a heart condition. His wife is constantly nagging him. She likes the fame and fortune but does not like the potential of life without all that comes with the glory. Lucille Ball is the team secretary that has a crush on him. It shows old football which is always a bonus for me. The scene that kills me is towards the end of the movie he slaps his wife pretty hard. He tells her that she deserved it and she acknowledges that she does as well. Of course they embrace and live happily ever after.
  2. Yes it is. It is not in the Pilanesberg Map and Guide book as a bird expected to be seen in the park. My South African co-worker that was with me was excited to see it as he said it was a rare bird to see. We never saw it fly. It ran down the middle of the road for about 50 yards and then turned into the grass to the right. We were able to watch it walk for another 20 yards or so then we lost it in the grass.
  3. #1 bucket list item for me is an African safari. Awesome photos I highly recommend it. As I mentioned in an earlier post I have visited Pilanesberg National Park multiple times and Kruger National Park once. Pilanesberg is ~220 square miles and Kruger is ~7500 square miles. Despite these being "parks", and the border being fenced in, the animals are very much wild. You have a strong chance of seeing the Big 5 in both parks. The entrance fee to Pilanesberg is less than $10USD per day. I typically stay at Bakubung in Pilanesberg. You do not need a long time either. The game are moving around early in the morning and again in the late afternoon/early evening. There is still movement throughout the day but not as much. I recommend going during our summer, their winter, because there will be less vegetation thus making it easier to see the game. I strongly suggest going on a safari ride in an open air vehicle with a park ranger. You will be riding with other people which will help as there are more eyes to spot the game. Plus the rangers have radios so they are in contact with the other rangers just in case someone spots a Big 5 they can quickly drive to that area in hopes of others being able to see them too. These rides last about 4 hours beginning pre-dawn and again in late afternoon. We did both; an early morning and evening ranger drive and then took our personal vehicle in between the guided drives.
  4. I have both the BoB and The Pacific on DVD (i am old). I have watched BoB numerous times. I have watched The Pacific exactly once. BoB blew me away. It never gets old. The Pacific? Not so much.
  5. Some additional photos from my trip to Africa. Some pics were taken with my cell phone and some with my co-workers camera. He was driving and I was taking pics. He lives in South Africa so he is used to this kind of stuff. Nice camera. Cell phone pic Cell phone This is about 1/3 of the group Cell phone Cell phone. It looks like the impala is looking at the balloon. South Africa is not the safest place. This is the entrance to our facility in Johannesburg. Fairly standard site in SA. Cell phone. The foot was on the gas just in case we needed to get away quickly. Cell phone Nice camera. A group hug. This zebra had been in a fight.
  6. The following are pics of US GI's preparing to return home at the end of the War taken by my Great-Uncle. When he gave me these photos he teared up. After what seemed like an eternity, he finally was able to say, " We left a lot of good men over there." It is getting misty in here just thinking about him and the others that serve(d). Troops boarding a ship heading home. Troops in Axem, Austria loading up.
  7. Details in the pic. Clothespins in use! Will throw up a disclaimer for future posting of anything that may be of question!!
  8. On the LHN Rewind program Herman pointed out the lack of ball security by Robinson. During his incredible run, with the spin and stiff arm, Herman stated that he missed a read (cut/hole) and was carelessly carrying the ball. My take is to continue to be frustrated with Herman's reluctance to load Robinson up with carries.
  9. Nice feeding bird shot. Surprised that the church has not been vandalized!
  10. I live on a private road! No, I do not have it on display. I have several Nazi flags, pennants, and banners in my collection. This was hung for photo taking purposes only.
  11. BoB is an all-time favorite of mine. When Spiers is running through the village is an incredible scene. He has zero cares. I am an avid collector of WII memorabilia and have talked to many veterans. Almost every one of them downplayed their service and were so thoughtful and humble. My great-uncle was a lifer in the military joining in 1937 and retiring in 1962. He was a combat medic during WWII serving in the 103rd ID. He only talked about the "good times" or the funny events he experienced during the War. Aside from getting the usual decorations during the War he was also awarded the Bronze Star with a "V" for valor. When I asked him about the award he simply said that he helped to "liberate" some US GI's that had been taken prisoner. He never would say how and I did not press it. Upon his death and while attending his funeral (I was presented his flag) another family member that also served during the War was talking about my g-uncle's service and gave a high level explanation on how he was awarded the Bronze Star. Medics are allowed to carry weapons but sacrifice their Geneva Convention protection if they use them in an offensive manner. According to the family member my g-uncle had a firearm with him. Apparently he took care of the German soldiers somehow and freed the soldiers. My g-uncle was a very kind and gentle man. The closest story that he ever told about this event was that he had several German soldiers surrender to him and all that he was carrying was a hypodermic needle. Additionally he had a lot of Nazi items that he brought back with him. He was always quick to say that he came by them honestly. My take away is that combat can/will make you do things that may be out-of-character. All in all those guys were badasses. 12. Beat me to it.
  13. Since I am late to the party on finding this thread I am going to post some pics of my travels over the last couple of years as time allows. In late February of this year I was on a business trip to South Africa. We had the weekend off so we took of for Pilanesburg to go on some safari drives. Pilanesburg is approximately 220 square miles of wild game in the park. You can either take a guided ride or take your own vehicle. We did both over the course of 3 days. I have been there numerous times and it never gets old. I have also toured Krueger once as well. The first is a series of pics of an elephant that was rolling in the mud. The last pic in the series is a selfie I took as the elephant was walking along behind us. That is my shoulder you slightly see. All photos taken with my cell phone. It had been raining so the lighting is not the best.
  14. I guess I missed the play where the punter was hurt. Heard it mentioned during the game but missed it happening. Anyone know what happened? Not that it changes anything and whatnot.
  15. Just not enough love for this run. Interesting enough there was not much comment about him going out or staying in bounds by the commentators IIRC. No review either.
  16. Back to back weeks for outstanding individual effort LB play for UT that is nationally recognized. Still...coaching remains an issue. The talent is there.
  17. Yes, the commentators spoke about this play calling arrangement. Seems odd to me.
  18. You do realize that Ingram was out today due to injury?
  19. How many times do you have to be reminded that Herman is Mensa? It is useless for us to even try to understand.

  21. i never have figured out why athletes think that they have to wear jewelry while playing the game. I remember growing up playing baseball that jewelry was not allowed especially if you were a pitcher.
  22. He is aligned. He has his Horns Up and is pointing to others to get their up too.
