  1. You make two suppositions, yet present only conjecture, not evidence. Run the actual numbers (easily counted), and get back to me.
  2. Briles is a bit, ahem ... controversial. But he wins. I think Leach or Patterson could bring Texas back. However, I reserve the right to change my mind as circumstances dictate. We're all just spit- balling. We're stuck with Mensa Tom for god knows how long. Maybe Tom will turn it around? Hope so. Don't think so.
  3. I don't think it was football smart to pass up 2 close FG opportunities against USC last year. I don't think it was football smart to pass on the extra point at the end of the first half against MY. Other examples exist from last year as well. It's about scoring points. I guess we can agree to disagree.
  4. We will have to agree to disagree. I think Leach can bring us a NC. We'll damn sure beat MY, lol.
  5. If I listed my first choice, I'd get negged to oblivion, lol. But he's the best coach in America, exceeding, IMO, Saban, even if my horse has never won a NC. 1) [private] 2) Leach 3) Patterson
  6. I voted "no" because Mensa is not football smart. He doesn't play the percentages, and he has zero clue about how to fit personnel to scheme. Zero. The smartest football coaches are guys like Tom Landry. Tom almost always took the points. He almost never went for two - a low percentage decision - because Tom apparently figured he might need that one point late in the game. Tomwould take the 3 with 4 minutes left in the 4th, and 4th and 3 on the opponent's 21, behind by 4. Then he'd kick the winning FG with 20 seconds left in the game. I can't tell you how many times, early in the 4th quarter, I'd bitch at Tom for taking the 3, or the 1 extra point, instead of going for two, when it was so obvious that "I" was right, but we took Tom's easy points instead. But here come the Cowboys winning the game with seconds left because Tom took the 3 a few minutes earlier. Tom taught me something: Play the percentages and take the points. Last year how many times did Mensa go for it on 4th down, deep in the opponent's end, instead of taking the 3? I still say Mensa lost USC because he f-ing refused to take the FGs, our crappy FG kicker notwithstanding, and went for the low percentage 4th down conversion attempt. And this year here we go again. Mensa was stupid not to take the 1 at the end of the first half against MY. That mistake didn't figure into the loss this time, but it was still a stupid coaching call. Mensa my ass.
  7. This is total horsesh*t. Leach, Petersen, Patterson - all those guys could get a NC done at Texas. Others as well. Probably Harsin, for example. Let's face it: The BMDs wanted Mensa, most likely because they liked that he talked like a Mensa meanie. The BMDs got Mensa wrong - All talk and no cattle. Let's just not compound the problem by hanging on to the guy for 5, 6, or 7 years. That's my dread. Mediocrity. Although right now we're a laughing stock, but does Mensa give a rat's ass. Will we cut our losses after we go 6-6 or 7-5 this year? No, the PTB will decide to keep Mensa for another year. G-d I hope I'm wrong about that.
  8. The problem with 8-5 this year, if Mensa can achieve that, which seems dubious, is that 8-5 will breed complacency. "Oh, Mensa has earned one more year" type loser thinking. But, at 8-5, recruiting will suffer. For example, don't look for Evans at 8-5. Evans to aggy, or, worse, to Lincoln Riley, who will curb stomp us forever. Then, next year, no, there won't be 10 wins. More like, at best, 8-5. And there we will be. Stuck with an 8-5 Coach and that's during a good year. We'll roll with Mensa and 6-6 to 8-5 for 5, 6, or 7 years and lose an entire decade. A lost decade. Bank it. Leach, Peterson, Patterson, others can put Texas where we need to be - winning NCs. Mensa cannot. There ARE coaches who can win NCs at Texas. Any coach that we talk to who doesn't say he WILL win the NC at Texas, no excuses, is not a guy Texas should even consider. Say what you want about Mack Brown's end career and I'm there with you, but on the day Mack was hired he said he would win a NC at Texas. And by god he got us one. He should have gotten more, but he DID get us one. Mensa gets us nothing. As Darrell would say, he ain't got "it".
  9. I hope so. There's some long-term, proven, good coaches out there. Leach, Peterson, Patterson jump to mind.
  10. Thank you for that. John Mackovic DID win a couple of league titles for us, began the turn-around against aggy, and gave us that first B12 title. Mac did a few good things in between "we didn't have the QB sneak in the game plan" and "the fans will just have to get over losing to Rice". Mensa ain't done shit, except beat MO in the Donald Duck 6-6 Bowl. And that's just not enough.
  11. That would be 2009. You're welcome.
  12. Yup. I know you're right. 5-7 to 7-6 here we come, crap recruiting crop, and then welcome to Herman Year Three. Thank god I didn't make any stupid predictions for this year, lol.
  13. Absolutely. The BMDs picked Herman, it seems, so it will be interesting to see which loss brings them to acceptance. Having said this, I hope Mr. Herman wins out, and we're all singing his praises by year's end, in unison. THAT, however seems highly unlikely. I'm just getting ready for Tuesday when I am called on to explain this shitshow to my colleagues. *Dread*, lol. Nope, I'm pretty sure we've got a few more "Herman's" in us to trash out the whole year.
  14. Best I can tell, CDC seems to have some sense. There's no way Herman Year Two should look like a duplicate of Herman Year One. And if it goes on this way as this year progresses, will CDC insist that we are all treated to Herman Year Three? I'm not getting any younger, lol.
  15. It occurs to me that young Mr. Herman has a lot of the John Mackovic mode of communication in him. His attitude is starting to wear thin. Take a little responsibility, Tom. We just had a car wreck, with injuries. But I agree. I doubt anything happens until next year. I suggested that somewhere yesterday and was treated to the "everyone knows you're an aggy" routine myself. Plus a neg. I just hope Del Conte gets his list together and keeps it well-updated. Because Texas appears to be wheel spinning with Tom Herman as head coach. Year 2 with this kind of opening? Portent of bad days ahead.
  16. I think Mike Emfinger said it best. What we've got in Tom Herman is another John Mackovic. On steroids.
  17. Football is part of our culture. So it isn't stupid, it just is. And what Texas "is" right now makes work more difficult. I have to put up with, "Texas has the #1 recruiting class every year, how come yall can't win?", While the person knows full well that Texas doesn't have the #1 recruiting class every year. We're Texas. We should beat a down Maryland club. This game has thoroughly challenged my faith in young Mr. Herman.
  18. No shit. We'd win big with Leach running the program.
  19. Dude, we're all upset, even depressed. No need to get personal. Right now, if it were up to me, if I was AD, I'd start a list for the next HC. But Herman isn't going anywhere until the end of next year unless, possibly, we only win 2 or 3. I think we'll probably win 5 to 7, given this MY loss. I hope we hit 11. Yeah, right. As for graduating from Texas, I got mine on the wall. I've been around since the days of "It don't make a shit." Kind of like you.
  20. It's hard to be optimistic when we're 0-1 and that loss came to Maryland.
  21. The season appears grim after this MY loss. We have to let the season play out, and see where we wind up. Texas will almost certainly win enough games to give Herman another year - that's reality. We will see where 5 to 7 wins affects our recruiting, but, with aggy having a proven coach, grim is all I can conclude.
  22. Texas 24 - 17 Maryland
  23. You missed this Dan Wolken story about our friends off Texas Avenue, College Station, Texas. I use the term "friends" loosely, lol. Enjoy.
  24. Jake Smith is freaking awesome. We will be a better club with Jake next year.
  25. We won 7 last year. We need 9 this year by hook or crook. The hook is Maryland. We have to hook Maryland. Hook'um!
