  1. Any recommendations for "hard" sci-fi books? I read a book a long time ago that was in that catagory. I can't remember the name though. It was very nerdy. I liked the complex explanations of the physics that seamed close enough to reasonable. I just grabbed Carbide Tipped Pens based on no information other than: it's an anthology, about 13 hours long, and reviews had some good hard sci-fi things to say. https://www.amazon.com/Carbide-Tipped-Pens-Seventeen-Science/dp/0765334313 Hard science fiction is the literature of change, rigorously examining the impact-both beneficial and dangerous-of science and technology on humanity, the future, and the cosmos. As science advances, expanding our knowledge of the universe, astounding new frontiers in storytelling open up as well. In Carbide Tipped Pens, over a dozen of today's most creative imaginations explore these frontiers, carrying on the grand tradition of such legendary masters as Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and John W. Campbell, while bringing hard science fiction into the 21st century by extrapolating from the latest scientific developments and discoveries. Ranging from ancient China to the outer reaches of the solar system, this outstanding collection of original stories, written by an international roster of authors, finds wonder, terror, and gripping human drama in topics as diverse as space exploration, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, climate change, alternate history, the search for extraterrestrial intelligence, interplanetary war, and even the future of baseball. From tattoos that treat allergies to hazardous missions to Mars and beyond, from the end of the world to the farthest limits of human invention, Carbide Tipped Pens turns startling new ideas into state-of-the art science fiction. Includes short stories by Ben Bova, Gregory Benford, Robert Reed, Aliette de Bodard, Jack McDevitt, Howard Hendrix, Daniel H. Wilson, and many others!
  2. I think gramps uses the shopping cart as a walker to get to the dolly.
  3. I don’t know if I could rewatch that. 7th grade Elvis knew how to pop and lock a zippo because of that movie. Oh! Little miss Marry sat on a tuffet. So I fucked her! Oh! is that close?
  4. Somehow....now this is wierd. I have almost no recollection of Highlander. Heads roll and that's all I know. I don't think I've ever seen it. I think it came out when I was still in private Christian elementary school. I wasn't allowed to watch stuff or listen to any radio stations except 88.1 KGNZ. I remember that!
  5. I could not finish that drivvle. Her nose looks weird too.
  6. My bad it was Cliff that asked…
  7. I’ve been watching some season 5 I think for late night snooze. Carla has a bunch of kittens in a box for some reason and she’s trying to get rid of them. mid episode Woody asks how she got rid of them. Carla says easy… I just offered a free beer with everyone. Norm walks out of the back room with a dozen kittens hanging all over him and coming out of every pocket. Classic and super cute.
  8. I don’t get it peppa
  9. This probably begins the descent from “greatest” to “any”. Kind of like the TV intro thread.
  10. I could only make it through three pages. The usual suspects of this forum trying to write a book on how to be a man is laughable.
  11. We went for a greenbelt walk just before. I’ve been doing my best to keep him out of all the burrs. He chased a rabbit into them and probably has a hundred burrs that need to pull out now. But we were hot and a swim was first priority. Stetson always dries off like that. He wasn’t rubbing because of the burrs. It’s really funny and cute every time. Plus he dries off in about one minute like that because he’s a Welsh Terrier. He’s water proof and his back feet are webbed. Hence the 20+ minute swims. Especially in the summer when it’s too hot to walk long distances. He loves it!
  12. Several minutes of dog zen. This was the last 4 minutes of about 20 or so minutes of doggy paddling. I should sell this to Apple TV as a screen saver. IMG_6090.mov
  13. Stetson came to Taverna in the Domain today, and he was a very good boy. It was his first time at lunch like that. No barking or begging or whining or anything. He just sat by the table for two hours no problem.
  14. I’m guessing the truck driver was in on it based on the camera mount.
  15. I moved from private Christian school to public school in fifth grade. A senior named Stacey Kirk took a bad hit and went quadriplegic or maybe just his legs. Long time ago. As I went into football I realized the stakes of playing. I kept my neck strong. This is before fair catch rules or any other safety stuff. I think they had just realized hydration improves performance instead of training “dry” and then water in the game would boost performance. Anyways, I don’t hear about injuries like that anymore.
  16. Freshman year some seniors tried that shit on me. I was skinny but 6 foot tall on varsity. I didn’t fight them, I just explained that I won’t fit. They gave up and moved on to someone smaller.
  17. Manners. Looking people in the eye (phones). Basic navigational skills (gps). Going to church. Personal responsibility. Severe football injuries. Smoking. Buffets.
  18. That one makes you stop and think....how, what, why, when, how long, what?
  19. What is "meaningful change"? I'm pretty sure that is what is happening right now. It is effecting my businesses in a meaningful way...financially and logistically.
  20. Great post. I thought the song writing or lyrics were wrong about how to operate a manual transmission. It turns out I heard that word wrong and it stuck with me. I had never talked or written about it until now, and I was corrected by the internet of assholes; you included. I now know that "he never hit the brakes when he was shifting gears" was not the lyric (illogilcal); he never hit the brakes AND he was shifting gears (accelearting into the hotel; logical). Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. This place just keeps getting better. Great forum. Keep it up.
  21. That means it’s a photograph with compelling composition. It created a feeling.
  22. Stetson has a friend named Butter. They are in a FRO competition. Butter is winning.
