  1. Or, people bail out when they discover almost all are obviously fake, and the few that might be real lack confirming carpet.
  2. Pici - Tuscan pasta, pronounced “peachy.”
  3. No shit. Instead, I’m getting “I don’t do x.”
  4. That’s what I’m looking for! If they have an opening, I’d be pleased to have a referral. I’m in Meyerland.
  5. What is the current rate in Houston for high quality cleaning of a 3400 SF, 3 bedroom, 3.5 bath house? We terminated the crew that was inadequately cleaning for $125 a week, when they showed up..... We have now met with two women who each come highly recommended for quality and reliability, and they each quoted $250. That was a bit shocking, but based on some of the comments above from two years ago, that may not be out of line.

    Wine

I keep the current Wine Enthusiast vintage chart saved as a pdf on my phone. And, for wines I don't know, I use cellartracker (which is what I use to inventory my cellar) for quick quality assessments.
  7. Sadly, there is nothing you can do to prepare your anus for this. But, along with everything else in your gut, this too shall pass.
  8. The NY Bagel Shop and adjacent deli were bought by a catering company 5 years ago. One of the two original partners retired at the time of sale, and the other about two years later. The bagel quality has suffered, but remains the best option in the Hebrew hood.

Everyone knows In My Opinion. But, IMO, that doesn't really fit the context of these posts. Of course, I was too much a pussy to ask myself.... Thanks Milkman.
  10. Do you have any independent sources, or did you just read that on Surly?
  11. And, I know a geography grad doing related work in the pipeline industry.
  12. As it turns out, Seattle and Vancouver has morphed to Seattle, Olympic National Park, and Victoria BC. Will spend a couple of days in Seattle and then head for the Peninsula. Still working out the details, but the current plan is to head to Quinault for two nights (Quinault first afternoon, Hoh Rain Forest and Kalaloch beaches day two), drive to Port Angeles on day three, with stops along the way at Sol Duc Falls and Lake Crescent (Spruce RR/Devil's Punchbowl), Hurricane Ridge/Hill on the fourth morning, with the afternoon still up in the air. One possibility, is to go to a lavender farm in Sequim, but we may be a tad early on lavender bloom. Then, the next morning, take the ferry to Victoria for one night (whale excursion, Butchart Gardens, and the Royal BC Museum), before returning to Port Angeles the sixth evening. The next morning, before heading back to Seattle, the plan is to hit Salt Creek Recreation Area to tide pool during a strong negative (-2) low tide.
  13. Am doing initial planning for family trip (wife and almost 17 year old twins) to Seattle and Vancouver CA in June 2024. There is a long Seattle thread, but I don't see a dedicated Vancouver thread. How many days is optimal for Vancouver? What are recommended sights/activities/excursions/restaurants? Any essential overnight (not day trip) destination?
  14. Am doing initial planning for family trip (wife and almost 17 year old twins) to Seattle and Vancouver in June 2024. I have run through this thread and have noted the suggested Seattle sights/activities/excursions. Very helpful! I'd like to book flights and lodging in the immediate future. How many days total, excluding bookend travel days? How many days should we stay in (or base out of) each city? Any other essential overnight (not day trip) destinations?
  15. “Owning the pubs” in the VP selection is fine, as long as you win. The answer is Taylor Swift.
  16. Too woke. The pure actors have moved to Great American Family.

    Texas Primaries

My wife and I married late in life - mid 60s with 16 year old twins (IVF, of course). My early almost-time-to-get-serious-about-college-plans comments have suggested/encouraged looking at locations that are more politically and climate change friendly than Houston. With every election, that gets closer to simply commanding "get the fuck out of here!" My and my wife's parents are deceased, with no strong remaining ties to Houston (or Texas). We likely retire by the time the kids finish college. Nothing holding us here. I hope the kids settle somewhere I'd like to live....

    Texas Primaries

This is the correct answer. The only registered voters who cannot vote in the R runoff are those who voted in the D primary.
  19. That is not a construction defect. It is simply theft/fraud. The real problem is that thieves are always broke. He is not putting the stolen funds into his brokerage account.... Even if you get a judgment, you can't collect. And, odds are that law enforcement will say its a "civil issue," and you should go hire an attorney. Sorry for their trouble.
  20. Yes, my hypothetical describes a breach of contract (among other things), but the RCLA still controls all residential construction claims, and the recent RCLA amendments seem to bar claims for cosmetic issues.
  21. That is exactly the concern. Imagine you are moving to Texas from far away, that you enter into a contract to build a house to be ready when you arrive, and that you make all your selections at the builder's design center before hopping back on a plane to return to far away. Imagine that when you arrive back in Texas to close and start your new life, you find a perfectly solid structure with brick, paint, shingle, countertops, light fixtures, and appliances different from what you selected. They are all of similar grade and value, but not what you picked out. Many think that the new amendments to the RCLA say you can go fuck off if you don't like it.
  22. Those words are not the issue. The issue is limiting claims to physical damage, failure of a building component, and things causing danger to occupants. A shitty paint job, which would be very expensive to remedy, is not covered.
