Both of the UHQRs are stereo from the 3 track tapes, and are the same mastering that Bernie Grundman did for Classic Records in the 90s. The original mono tapes were apparently lost or taped over and I don’t think the original mono release was even mastered from them.
Also, y’all, it’s going to be Russell. Come on. There is one outlet that claims Bottas has already been told he’s not being renewed (Missed Apex, I think). But we will wait for that to be official later I guess.
Thanks, MC! It’s pretty nerdy, but there is a live stream with a bunch of big industry names going on right now. Mike Hobson (founder of Classic Records), Michael Fremer (reviewer, from Analog Planet), Chad Kassem (owner of Acoustic Sounds, Analogue Productions, and Quality Record Pressings), the QRP plant manager, Bernie Grundman (legendary mastering engineer) and a relatively well known you-tuber (45RPM Audiophile). Cool to hear them talk about how this stuff is done. Mostly centered on the new UHQR KoB release.
Spain is definitely boring because it’s not a good track for overtaking, but it’s a good circuit to test the strength of your race car, because it has a good mix of corner types.
I could have sworn there was but I cannot find one. DHL does have the fastest ones for different races but I couldn’t find all of the stops anywhere. I did find that Bottas’ second stop in Bahrain was the slow one where they had an issue with the RF tire. Outside of this, time spent in the pit lane was roughly the same for both on the other stops. In Imola, Bottas only did one stop before the crash, but he spent 30s in the pit lane, compared to 32s for Hamilton (I don’t have the time spent stationary). Hamilton’s second stop was obviously much longer because he had just gone off and broke the wing. In Portimao, weirdly enough, Bottas’ pit delta time was actually the same as Hamilton, and only two tenths slower than Max. Obviously, the team should’ve given him a better stop, but that was much closer than I thought.
How much lens? I felt woefully inadequate with my 70-200 and 1.4x TC (on a full frame). Obviously that’s not good enough for wildlife in general but damn it felt very small there.
If you wanna know how crazy the high end vinyl market has gotten, this audiophile grade pressing is “limited” to 25,000 copies. This isn’t even the 45RPM version that will be out later! https://store.acousticsounds.com/index.cfm?get=detail&Title_ID=148512
Bottas actually had the fastest Mercedes stops in both Bahrain and Imola. Both 2.24s, good for 9th and 10th fastest so far. It’s something they still definitely need to work on, though, and it benefits both cars (pit crews are the same).
All the young drivers are pretty great, really (except Mazepin). Jury is still out on Mick, but he’s doing okay so far. The grid is super talented right now nearly from top to bottom (only a few exceptions). We will see some more quick guys in the coming years as well (I rate Piastri really high in F2). I actually think Stroll has really shown he belongs here as well. Mazepin, to me, is kinda who we all thought Stroll would be.
