  1. FDU needs to start using all of the shot clock.
  2. I mean, that was a foul on Cunningham, but there's just been an enormous disparity in foul calls when the guy with the ball gets shoved.
  3. That was a high-IQ basketball play And then he scores
  4. Yeah, I can't remember seeing a team with less confidence down the stretch. They looked terrified.

  6. I'm in the still-can't-fucking-believe-it camp with y'all. He's on YouTube telling an interviewer that he's never asked God for forgiveness, he mocked a disabled reporter, he called actual flag-waving Nazis "very fine people," he paid hush money to a pornstar with campaign funds (a crime for which his lawyer went to jail), and he invited his followers to DC and directed them to overthrow American democracy. And people who claim to be patriotic Christians are just lined up to vote for him again. I mean... I've had to reconsider a whole lot of things that I thought I understood. I chalk most of it up to right-wing propaganda that these people absolutely cannot distinguish from news.
  7. I'm impressed that he can throw a baseball with his little high-heels on.
  8. Ha. I'm not totally down with this opinion - I think he's got a few really good songs - but those Parrotheads... ugh. I have long held that with regards to the Grateful Dead, Jimmy Buffet, and Jesus - I'm down with the artist, but the followers are fucking insufferable.
  9. Dwight Schrute drove a 1980's Trans Am. He would have been a HUGE Rush fan, fwiw.
  10. Yeah, I think we spent a ton of effort while Kansas coasted. I'm not sure that automatically favors Kansas though. Maybe some of that grittiness and effort spills into tomorrow.
  11. A million kudos for not using "disinterested" here.
  12. God, I hope that the Texags politics forum participants aren't a representative sample of their graduates. Because a lot of their threads - threads that feel like CONSENSUS opinions over there - it's unimaginable to me that they could be written by people who went to school past the 8th grade. Or by people who have ever had a single friend or family from a marginalized group who they loved, and whose humanity they recognized and were willing to defend.
  13. I've been to a few concerts where I look around at all the grey hair and bald heads, and I think, "Please God, don't let this be my demographic." Most recently that was at Springsteen. But even more depressing than that is the rare moment where I'm traveling somewhere in Texas, and I decide to scroll the radio dial and try to find a Texas basketball broadcast, and then I pass a "classic rock" station. And hey! What do you know? They're playing the SAME FUCKING 30 SONGS THAT THEY'VE BEEN PLAYING FOR 45 YEARS... with the only difference being that they've slapped a brick wall limiter on those songs, so even if I wanted to crank them up, they would be utterly unlistenable. I have a coworker who I really like, and sometimes when we're at work he'll stream some classic rock on Spotify, which seems like getting a McLaren supercar and then towing it with your horse and buggy.
  14. Ha ha. Never in history has an artist offered a more accurate self-assessment: edit: the fact that he's sporting half a can of hairspray, and wearing sunglasses indoors in his nouveau riche home just kind of makes this a *chef's kiss* perfect interview.
  15. I have a friend who likes to go to parties and whenever music is discussed, she likes to offer how much she loves Yoko Ono's music. Invariably men will lose their shit, and she'll calmly double- and triple-down on how great Yoko is. She says it's like a superpower where even if a guy thinks he's being trolled, he takes the bait anyway. The funny thing is that EVEN AFTER SHE'S TOLD ME HOW FUN IT IS, she mentioned to me that she actually, really, truly enjoys Yoko's music, and then I lost my shit and started finding examples of those fucking dolphin-noise vocals on YouTube and then went off about how indefensible that is on any level. So... a superpower. Maybe Brick has it too?
  16. Haha. I agree about that song. It's ridiculously formulaic and dreadful. That attempt at a 3-note hook for a chorus... Ooof. Maybe we should have a "worst song by a great artist" thread? You could also put me down for "You Might Think" by the Cars.
  17. Wow. "Running on Empty" is easily a top-10 desert island album for me. I discovered it when I was maybe 14 and just about to buy my first acoustic guitar. Everything about it was a peek into an adult world - songs about love and loneliness and drugs and addiction and life on the road. It was (and is) a masterclass on songwriting, and those ideas were animated by brilliant musicians who served the song above all else. And part of that was Lindley's solos. They're just incredibly lyrical and tasteful. They have perfect phrasing, they have ideas that build and morph, they have beginnings and endings. IMO, the only other soloist who compares in those respects is David Gilmour. I remember an interview with him where he talked about collecting wild polyester clothing from the 50's to 70's, and the interviewer asked him where in the world does he find thrift stores that have those things? "Salt Lake City, man. That's the Mecca." I'm gonna raise a glass to him tonight.
  18. ThorpyFX fallout cloud is the best Muff-style pedal that I've personally used. I like it even more than the Analogman fuzz that cost twice as much (and I subsequently sold). We are definitely living in a golden era of pedals, with products from multinational corporations, from dudes on college football forums, and from everyone in-between... literally around the globe. Not only that, buyers can audition them on YouTube and have them arrive at the front door in a couple days. It occurs to me that you could have eight or ten guys with pretty big pedalboards and have no pedal appear in more than one rig, and all of those chains could have a tuner, compressor, gain (or three), fuzz, wah, phaser, chorus, delay, reverb -- and each one of them could be just fantastic.
  19. This is how I feel about Fender amps. It's not that I don't think they can sound glorious, it's just that they don't sound glorious when *I* use them.
  20. Is my TV messed up or is Disu green?
