  3. 'Deepfake' Southgate videos viewed by millions England manager Gareth Southgate in a news conferenceImage source, Getty Images Image caption, The videos were made to look like Gareth Southgate news conferences Laura Scott Sports News Correspondent Published 30 June 2024, 06:22 BST At a major tournament England head coach Gareth Southgate's words are analysed, deconstructed and debated. But Euro 2024 has brought a new dimension - AI-generated fake interviews with the England boss that are being viewed by millions on social media. These fake clips purporting to show Southgate making crude remarks about his players have been called "offensive" by the Football Association. The videos have been circulating on TikTok and Instagram. They include derogatory comments about England's Euro 2024 players as well as those who were not selected. Comments on the social sites suggest the material, about players such as Phil Foden, Jordan Henderson, Jack Grealish and Marcus Rashford, had been believed by some viewers. The videos are all made to look like Southgate is giving press conferences, but use an AI voice generator to overlay fake words and artificially move his mouth. In one of them the artificial voice apologises "to the nation" for the manager's performance and criticises players. In another, the fake Southgate says: "I think we really missed Jordan Henderson's presence out there tonight." BBC Sport spoke to several England fans in Germany who had seen the material on social media. The majority said they found the content funny. "It's the classic stereotypical British humour. It helps build a bit of morale to keep people motivated and happy, so I think it's harmless fun," one supporter told BBC Sport. "Apparently, Gareth doesn’t read anything or watch any social media anyway." Another described some of the videos as "quite funny" but pointed out it was not just the England manager who has been targeted. "I've seen a lot of players and, during the season, [Jurgen] Klopp, Pep [Guardiola] and [Mikel] Arteta getting it too." However, the FA said in a statement: "As we do with all harmful content we will take steps to have these offensive videos removed. "Gareth and everyone in camp are focused on Sunday’s game." England won Group C of Euro 2024 and face Slovakia in the last 16 - but there has been criticism of the way England have played as well as of Southgate personally. AI videos a 'clear and present danger' Earlier this year London Mayor Sadiq Khan said deepfake audio of him supposedly making inflammatory remarks before Armistice Day almost caused "serious disorder". And former Justice Secretary Sir Robert Buckland said AI videos in politics represent a "clear and present danger" to UK democracy. While AI-generated content is allowed on TikTok and Instagram, there are rules on what content is considered harmful. Shortly after the BBC approached TikTok about a number of videos on one account, the material disappeared. It is understood it was taken down because it repeated violations of the platform's AIGC policies. Meta, which owns Instagram, was also reviewing the material. Experts warned that those in positions of power were not the only ones vulnerable to this kind of manipulation. Professor Hany Farid, a digital forensics expert at the University of California, said: "It's not just people who have a big digital footprint whose identity can be co-opted. "I can take as little as 30 seconds of someone’s voice, as short as a single image of somebody, and create deepfakes of them." He added that there was a delicate balance to strike with regulation when it comes to satire. "It's one thing to have an article that is satirical, making fun of a politician or an athlete," he said. "It is very different to have a video of that person in their voice and in their likeness that can be quite offensive, and I think the courts, and we as a society, are going to have to think about where we draw that line."
  4. the girl is now over 16 current pics not loading
  5. i think he's just stating what he's hearing and he is absolutely deeply connected other than grant wahl (RIP) he has been one of the very few with a national 'mainstream' profile to take a global view (attitude) towards our federation and (men's) national team i too hope we win and keep winning so we don't have to find out
  6. i want to see it in writing and i want to see a blockbuster name coaching hire like a klinsmann with a public announcement of a contract paying global market rates
  7. i would love to see a pic of their parents and i'll bet 9 out of 10 look exactly like their dad
  8. this is brilliant and irrefutable i would add that every sentence they uttered talking about fisher for at least 3 years used the word SITTING
  9. D. it doesn't matter because until proven differently we can't pay a coach more than $1.7m a year (base) because of the equal rights cba
  10. finebaum may be a douche, but he is catching on to aggy, and we should not discourage that by antagonizing him unnecessarily i would propose the entire site adopt a paul-neutral stance for at least this first season no matter what happens and re-assess in the spring
  11. the nats could use some of that home cookin' but we are never going to get it in the copa

  14. schmeichel is pissed and denmark deserved better but germany are rolling under nagelsman with the new tech, the handball rule is going to have to be revised every player will have to wear gloves with sensors & an algorithm that can detect natural movements v. intentional attempts to play or deflect the ball
  15. ipso facto, the lack of nats headlines from the prem is a result of ingerland's national team domination in big tournaments
  16. his signature game was in the video i posted above along with wondowlowski both should have received a lifetime ban from the national team in any capacity
  17. suisse/italy pre-game combined copa/euro top10 fox has lost their minds colombia are clearly the best team in the copa and i would wager for them to advance over anyone in the euro other than germany and spain fox has colombia in 7th

  20. welp, it's time i can't hold back any longer this is going to ruin everyone's day you probably already know what i'm about to say i already knew what i was about to say but i had never put 2 & 2 together..... +++ "There is a bear in the woods. For some people, the bear is easy to see. Others don't see it at all. Some people say the bear is tame. Others say it's vicious and dangerous. Since no one can really be sure who's right, isn't it smart to be as strong as the bear? If there is a bear." +++ "Cone successfully reached a historic collective-bargaining agreement (CBA) with the women's and men's national teams in May 2022. The agreement made the United States the first country to achieve gender equality in its pay for soccer athletes." +++ "Hayes was recently hired to lead the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team following the departure of former head coach, Vlatko Andonovski. While the specifics of her contract have not been released by U.S. Soccer, reports indicate Hayes is set to earn roughly $1.6 million per year through 2027." +++ "One source with knowledge of the deal confirmed to ESPN that her salary will be "close if not equal" to that of U.S. men's national team manager Gregg Berhalter, who makes $1.6 million." +++ There it is That's the reason he got the job back It's the reason he's keeping the job no matter what happens We can't pay any coach of The United States Men's National Team more than $1.6M through the end of 2027, the length of Hayes' contract We are royally fucked six ways to sunday because of this pornographically stupid compensation agreement parlow signed god fucking dammnit
  21. i can't believe no comments on this one.... it really is the worst one yet... comair 5191 holla the last "crash" (many/all killed) in the US was colgan 3407 in 09.... we are getting very close to something happening..... ++++++++++++++ moar data: The airport wasn’t closed. The tower wasn’t yet open. The tower frequency (not yet in effect) and the CTAF frequency are the same, so either they had the wrong frequency or a comms issue, or it was early in the morning and it was too much hassle to make CTAF calls for them. If tower is closed you can still take off, and if there’s no traffic, it’s usually faster. They should still have made calls for leaving the ramp, entering the runway, leaving the active (runway). There is indeed a NOTAM: PWM 06/168 PWM RWY 11/29 CLSD EXC XNG AND TAX THU FRI MON TUE WED 0230-0945 2406200230-2407310945 That’s KPWM (the airport) NOTAM# 06/143, At PNM runway 11/29 (same pavement, opposite directions) CLOSED except for crossing and taxi. Effective Thursday, Friday, Monday-Wednesday 0230z-0945z. Full date/time is 2024-06-20 0230z – 2024-07-31 0945z. They were not up to date on the NOTAMs and are either used to using that runway or had preplanned it as it was closest to the ramp. Not being up to date on the NOTAMS is a violation of FARS §91.103 “…Preflight Action directs pilots to become familiar with all available information concerning a planned flight prior to departure, including NOTAMs.” Closed runways are typically marked with big X’s at the ends, but as the runway was clear for taxi and crossing likely wasn’t marked at intermediate instersections. They could have entered at F, E, D, or C “as if to taxi to runway 18/36” without seeing the X at either end. As for the ops vehicle, it being 5:43, and sunrise being 5:02, may have turned his lights/flashers off.
