Re: comments up thread about not getting cocky and hoping the campaign doesn’t take their foot off the gas…. 100% agree with all that. What feels different to me about now vs 2016 is that in 2016 1) Trump was seen then as this crazy loon who just might be able to provide the reset Washington needed by a whole bunch of people at the time And 2) Hillary wasn’t really inspiring at all. A huge portion of the population had a massively negative impression of her and she didn’t do shit to fire up or inspire the ones who were meh about her. In one of the most tone deaf campaigns of all time, she completely underestimated what Trump was tapping into. Fast forward to today, and 1) Trump isn’t capturing any zeitgeist this time. As we all are aware he is really starting to sound like Charlie Brown’s teacher. His schtick is old and tired and this time he’s not seen as a unique agent of change by a bunch of people. Rather we now have a bunch of people who have figured out what he’s all about and don’t want any part of it. And 2) Kamala isn’t hated by huge swath of the population. In fact it’s her this time that seems like the breath of fresh air. Even if people don’t love all of her policies, she’s smart, seems like she tells the truth and acts with integrity and human decency, probably won’t try to overthrow the government, and has the benefit of simply not being Trump or Biden. Anything can happen and I certainly agree that the campaign shouldn’t take their foot off the gas. But in at least this one old assholes opinion, this time feels like it has some fundamental differences vs 2016.
