  1. Glad you brought this up. This is my first winter with a pool. I’m assuming my generator will take care of everything if power goes out. Guess the pumps need to run constantly?
  2. So we did a gas oven/stove with vent hood. Then built a large pantry and put double electric oven in there. Wife loves it.
  3. Crazy, I have something similar I was just coming here to post. Just out a pool in and got everything graded out. Not as steep as it used to be, but now I have slow moving water that doesn’t seem to dry out. I have some drains, could I just turn one of the drain pipes into a French drain?
  4. Have a ~4 year old TCL that refuses to find WiFi networks. I have reset it multiple times and tried everything I can find online. Have an old fire stick connected for now, but don’t like that set up long term. Need a cheap smart tv. It’s in the kids playroom and runs Disney+, Netflix, Prime and sometimes I go in there for football games. Anyone have a Fire TV? 50” for 250. Hisense for 230? Any other options out there?
  5. I bought C9s from Christmaslights.com a handful of years ago. I was strongly against going LED because they always seem so dim. These turned out great. Bought a 500 ft blank roll and cut my own lengths. Definitely the way to go.
  6. Do y’all have experience with PVC? I have none. Is it similar to working with wood?
  7. I have 4x4 posts on my patio that I need to wrap and make roughly 8x8. Any thoughts on the wood I should use? They will be painted and exposed to direct weather on at least 1 side. Looking to control costs, but it’s a main feature of my house so if I have to make amends I can.

    Tennis Thread

I’ve played tennis my whole life until we left Austin 7 years ago. I haven’t been able to find anyone to play with (haven’t tried all that hard) but I’m thinking about getting back into it. I used to play the singles ladder in Austin a while back (not sure if it’s still running). I really prefer doubles. Just hard to find a good partner. Maybe I’ll use this thread to get me going again. Until then, I mop the floor playing pickleball at the rec center on Wednesdays.
  9. What do y’all do with the pool toys/floats?
  10. Thanks guys!
  11. Thanks. How do I let air out?
  12. Not using pool service. The filter on the pipes (by all the pumps) has a bunch of junk in it. Can I clean that out? Pool builder told me a pool service would clean it a couple times a year.
  13. BIL got it installed about a month ago. Pretty cool. Completely transformed his house.
  14. Ok. Thanks for the info.
  15. I have a tower that holds about 10 tabs. What is the alternative? **I’m ~1 month in on a new pool so still learning
  16. Chlorine tabs? What’s wrong with them? My pool builder said to avoid big box store chlorine.
  17. We used a silver travertine and builder said not to seal. Landscapers came in and got red clay all over it - looked stained. Little scrub with a baking soda water mix got it all out.
  18. I have variable speed pump. When would I ride it mid or low vs high?
  19. Thanks for all the info. I did a picture test - pic of one, pic of the other - which one you like best? 4/5 she picked the eagleston holly. We’re going with that.
  20. Good points on the climate. I’m in north Houston and these will get blasted with full sun. My FIL called the cherry laurel trash trees. Is he right? I want the eagleston but I need to get my wife on board.
  21. Need opinions on couple plants. Wife wants cherry laurels along my back fence. Landscaper wants to use eagleston holly. Any thoughts on either of these? Thanks
  22. We have water!
  23. Plumbing is going in today. Putting split face on the retaining wall. Wife is not 100% about it, says it’s “rustic”. I continue to show her pictures that dispute that claim but she is sticking to it. Silver travertine decking with a grey split face should look good. I’m pretty much colorblind so what do I know. Then she realized something in the design that has always been there and now she doesn’t like (too late). This type of build is definitely tough on her. It will look great in the end. The process sucks. Did anyone get push back from builder to use thicker coping? I want the 5cm but the design people made it sound like that could be a problem.
  24. Rolling right along. Gunite yesterday, clean up today. Plumbing next week. I noticed the pad today and think I might have a problem. It’s right next to the exhaust side of my generator. This spot gets pretty hot. Am I right to be concerned?
