  1. Supposed to steak out the pool today. Weather just went sideways so it might not happen. Starting a month later than planned (mostly my fault) so ready to get rolling.
  2. Can you post more pics of your pool? I think we are about to do something similar.
  3. Get one local who you can work with. No reason they need to be in the same county as house.
  4. In Houston area. Who is a legit dealer to talk to about buying/install?
  5. Is taking out and putting robot in the pool every few days not a pain in the ass?
  6. They told me I needed X% (don’t remember exact number) and the full face and serial number. Out of 7, they said I had full face on 2. Some they declined were missing tiny points of the face. It was silly.
  7. The shit money saga is over. Fed just deposited balance in my bank account. Not sure if I ever posted the pic from the day at the bank. 2 bankers taped all the money together.
  8. Signed the contract. Hopefully smooth sailing Thanks MonkeyDoughnut for the rec
  9. About to put a pool in so my backyard is going to be trashed. I want to use this as an excuse to change the grass type in the back. I have 2 dogs that run and have created paths in the St Augustine. What type of grass should I look for? Thinking Zoysia Palisades. Thoughts? Experiences? I’m north of Houston.

  11. Is there a thread or place TFP I can post my specs to make sure they’re what I need? Or can I post them here? I see people talking about pump sizes and heater sizes, etc. I want to make sure I’m not missing anything.
  12. Good info. Both guys are using Hayward products. Should I steer clear?
  13. Coming down to a final bids for pool and talking about cleaners. One guy telling me parts are too hard to find for robots, to use Polaris 280 Black. Robot options - he said he has been using Tiger Shark for clients looking for robots because Aqua Vac parts are too hard to find. Other guy said he’s using Aqua Vac. He also went on to tell me robots aren’t meant to be in the pool all the time and Polaris is easier to just pop it off and pull it out. Thoughts? Growing up we had a Polaris and my in-laws currently have one. Cord loves to get in the way, but it really doesn’t matter to me. Should it? I want the most efficient.
  14. One more for today. I believe both are 3.5-6 ft. Is that deep enough? Gut tells me deeper. My kids at 10/8/8.
  15. So I have 2 quotes right now. Both our spa in deep end. One has it on the east side of the yard, other has it on the west. There are ways for it to be hidden either way. My electric comes into the house closer to east. Main gas is closer to west, but I have a line running to my generator on the east that pool guy thinks they can use. Top pool is 17x38, 7x8 spa. Bottom is 15x35, 7x7 spa. Wife likes the flat pool aspect of the bottom, the spa orientation of the top, extra decking of top. She also likes the mini ledge of the top pic. She’s not a huge fan of the retaining wall being part of the pool on the top pick. But our yard has a pretty decent slope, so wall has to fit somewhere. Guy with bottom quote didn’t include patio and walkways in his quote, which is a little annoying. Quotes on both of these, high. But extremely close. More bang for the buck with the top one. Any pros/cons I might be missing?
  16. Couple questions on design: Is there a specific area the equipment needs to go? Closer to deep end? Closer to spa? Is there a preference to having spa on deep end or on shallow? Decking options - concrete or travertine? Those two seem to be the only ones. Am I missing anything?
  17. Aren’t you in the houston area? Care to DM the builder?
  18. No way I would get my money out of it. I’m about to squash this idea of moving.
  19. So the wall on the near side is required and then on the back opposite side there is retaining wall. My yard slopes down and to the left from that POV. One side of wall is going to be face, the other will not be visible. Last night my wife starts talking about moving. WTF. So I told her pool is on hold until she gets those thoughts out of her mind.
  20. Got the initial quote and it seems pretty steep for this 15x35 3.4-6ft pool, 7x7 spa. Travertine deck. I have a couple people coming next week to talk.
  21. Also, what is a normal size? I think we said 12x30. Is that ok? Should we go bigger (wider)? We are making a list of what we like and don’t from the first render.
  22. Just got our first design back from builder #1. Their software is crazy. Look just like my yard and house. I think I was more impressed with that than anything. About design, do we need a shelf? I have 3 kids, oldest about to be 10. I’m more concerned about building places for them to jump off of than sit in 6 inches of water (or however deep they are). Am I missing something? What else do I need to look out for?
  23. North Houston area. Wife called a pool guy to come talk. Said they start at 75k. Should I show up for the meeting or find something better to do? They keep asking for budget and we don’t have a clue
