  1. I've reached the point to where I hope Card gets the nod. Reasoning: I want to see CTJ lose his bet and resulting righteous anger. I haven't wrote off Card. (Redshirt) Freshman QB's often suck. He sucked. After a few glimpses into Fall camp, Surly consensus is that he is a head case / damaged goods. I don't know that he's NOT damaged goods, but Surly also doesn't KNOW that he is. There is a pile of historical data that suggests he could be very much improved. Speaking of head cases / damaged goods... what's a good way to really mentally fuck a young QB? How about throwing Quinn out to Will Anderson and co in his second game in... 20 months? After having only had 6 months within a completely new, complex offensive system. Say we do run him out there and it goes poorly... good thing we have such an even-keeled, non-toxic fanbase that will definitely not immediately dial up the pressure to 1000. Oh wait... Card should starts. Quinn gets ~half of game against ULM. Feed Card to the wolves. Quinn isn't beating Bama you fucking idiots. If Card shits down his leg (possible if not likely), bring Quinn in against the 2nd team defense and hopefully there's a spark. I have little doubt Quinn wins the job outright before the season is over. Let's stop being reactionary, unrealistic, retarded pussies and acting like the world is ending if It's not 100% Quinn day 1.
  2. Dear god. He skipped his senior year of high school and enrolled two weeks before camp at Ohio State. The guy he was "unable to beat" was a Heisman finalist. Are you surprised? Vince Young, Trevor Lawerence, Jesus Christ himself would not have been "able" to win that starting job. And here we are today. He is effectively an early enrollee, true freshman QB who didn't play his senior year of high school. I don't know if you know this but that profile very fucking rarely comes in and starts day 1. And when they do, they almost always fucking suck. It should not surprise anyone that he hasn't yet been heads and shoulders above another highly ranked QB who has 1) two years on campus, 2) an extra year in the current offensive system with actual meaningful playing time (shit on performance all you want). Quinn not being day 1 starter is not part of some meaningful "pattern." The only pattern is stupid lazy takes in this fucking thread.
  3. Can't tell if you're kidding but our fan base is fucking retarded. Sark very well may end up sucking. This season very well, and frankly probably, will suck. But to direct your outrage at Sark at this point is so fucking toxic and reactionary. The experienced leaders of this (and last year's) team should be fuckface Tom's 2018 and 2019 classes. What does Sark have left to work with from those classes? Offense- Roschon, Whittington, Liebrock, Angilau, Jones Defense- Coburn, Ojomo, Sweat, Overshown, Brockermeyer, Gbenda, Bush, Cook, Jamison That's it. If this season is a dud with no sign of improvement and we lose the '23 class, then okay. I disagree with whether or not he should have already lost the fan base but I can at least understand it. Until then, stop being such fucking pussies and understand the shit he inherited.
  4. Food for thought- biggest year over year improvement in QBR (per ESPN). Notes: Per ESPN, Adjusted Total Quarterback Rating (QBR)values the quarterback on all play types on a 0-100 scale adjusted for the strength of opposing defenses faced. Data covers 2005-2021 seasons Sample is limited to P5 (+ Notre Dame & BYU) QB's Sample only includes QB's who qualify in each season (20 snaps per team game) 512 QB sample 2021 Texas QB's: Casey Thompson - 62.6 QBR (62nd in country, 7th of 9 qualifying B12 QB's) Hudson Card - 59.5 QBR (did not quality, but would have ranked 69th in country, 9th of 10 B12 QB's)
  5. You did not- I am an idiot. I meant to say what ESPN calls RTG whish is an efficiency rating and separate from QBR.
  6. QB Efficiency Rating (RTG on ESPN) seems like it sucks as a metric. Obviously not apples to apples for variety of reasons but RTG would tell us Card was on par or better last year (138.6) than Colt in 2007 (139.2) or VY in 2004 (128.4). As for QB's getting better year over year... here are most improved from 2000-2021. This is by RTG so maybe worthless, but only metric I already had data for. Note- guys only show up if they qualified statistically (14 attempts per team game) in both seasons).
  7. It's easy to forget that the people we interact with in our day-to-day lives aren't necessarily representative of the population at large. I'm grateful for Surly posts like this one to remind me how utterly fucking stupid some people are. Keep your head on a swivel.
  8. What talented studs did he hold on the sidelines for said shitheads?
  9. I've never kept up with Texas volleyball and have only really recently gained interest in the sport through playing recreationally. Shoutout to @Js1 @SL Xpress and others for all the good info in this thread and making it a little easier to hop on the bandwagon this season. Looking forward to following along and probably annoying you all with newb questions.
  10. 16 total times since 2000. 8 of those were Case Kennum or Leach QB's. 6 were other G5's. Then Burrow and Mahomes.
  11. I heard Sark hands out Sydney and RGBIII's #'s and they don't pick up the phone.
  12. Sometimes pain is the only way I can still feel
  13. Now sitting here watching this shit. Should neg you.
  14. You really think Sam was going to come back and risk his legacy by having to beat the next Aaron Rodgers in camp?
  15. This. Stole a yard flamingo from in front of a certain UT college on a drunken summer walk back from 6th. Showed up in the campus crime report next week and listed as $800 of damage / stolen property. Not the genesis of my username but would’ve been a better story had I gotten caught. Was reluctant to post this but took comfort in knowing we have a knockout resident criminal defense attorney who could come to my aid @ztejas Let Marion come up with a creative punishment and be done with it.
  16. Ha so much for setting an example right? I finished... just not where I wanted to.
  17. I like this. It seems obvious on surface but roles are often reversed in more subtle ways and it is impactful on an impressionable kid. I don't have children but when I do, I suppose the silver lining of my experience is that I know a lot of ways not to parent.
  18. Good advice here, thanks everyone. We spoke and it felt less like I was her last resort in a dire situation, and more like she just didn't want to go back to her usual targets. She mentioned a few bills and new school clothes for my nephew who is starting middle school. I didn't really feel like interrogating or pushing beyond that. I sent her $1k via Cashapp and told her not to worry about paying me back. I'm sure this thread will get bumped in future. I'm in my late 20's and it's already abundantly clear that I will be supporting her and both of my parents. I'm probably being an asshole but it pisses me off. I do not have meaningful relationships with any of them and honestly it's not something I really desire at this point. I know I wasn't buying my own lunchables as a 2nd grader but I also had to be 100% financially independent before graduating high school and had to pave my own way when a little help (monetarily or more so guidance) would've made a big difference. Tired of having to be the adult for them.
  19. Tell me about your experience. My older sister (33, single mother, high school dropout, no pics) just texted me requesting a $1,500 loan. Story is she has fallen behind after having to take a paycut at a new job. She said she wouldn't have reached out if I wasn't her last resort. We are not close and haven't spoken in months so no clue on background/validity of her story. This isn't a surprise. She's made a lot of bad decisions and has been bailed out financially and otherwise many times (that I know of) by my mom and an aunt (also no pics of either; not that you would want them). I thought she had finally gotten her shit together (relatively speaking) but now I don't know. She proposed to pay me back with her tax return in February...so yeah, repayment is very unlikely. The amount isn't an issue. And despite our relationship being non-existent for the better part of two decades, I would want to help her if she's truly in a pinch. I just worry about precedent and if it's really the best thing to do for her. Thanks for listening and I welcome the Surly wisdom.
  20. Lol. What does comp look like for this type of role? So post firing: 1st offseason 13 D1 HC changes Tom lobbies for USCe job. Told Nah. 1st season (2021) settles on vague offensive analyst role with Bears. If there was any reporting of him actually being close to the game / adding value to the organization I saw none of it not saying it's Tom's fault (rookie QB / dysfunctional org), but Bears offense goes from bad to worse 2nd offseason 29(!) D1 HC changes, shuffling of staffs December- Tom tells Andy Staples he's "not interested in college roles" and prefers to stay in NFL. Righhhht. Bears HC change, Tom asked soooo what exactly would you say you do here? 2nd season (2022) No other NFL team wants him(?) so he settles for CBS college analyst role? Doesn't sound like a career move for someone preferring to stay in the NFL. Or maybe this is his way of getting his foot back in the college door after not landing a gig during one of the busiest coaching carousels in recent memory? Weird... it's almost like nobody really wants to employ fuckface.
