  1. Could he, though? I figure he'd make it 2 semesters before it was just too much.
  2. Either neg boss ditchpig or fucking ignore him, y'all
  3. Excellent - as I read this my inner voice began to resemble that of Jack Handey
  4. Ugh. Still need that puke reaction thingy. Guess I'll use Prepare Your Anus instead?
  5. I live in this part of Virginia, and you've got it pretty well laid out.
  6. Where I live there is a long history of terrible treatment of the minority areas, including things like upkeep or improvements to parks. So guess who was taking advantage of the nice parks in the nicer parts? More recently there has been a clear effort to spread the wealth, so to speak, by the parks department. For years I have run past this one particular park in a rough part of town, especially on longer runs on the weekends. Happy to say that the last couple of years I see not just a lot of people but huge parties/events/cookouts at the improved facilities. Like, I want to stop and see if they'll let me hang out, the food smells amazing. The cynical side of me wonders about the motivation to spend $$$ to improve those certain parks.
  7. While I understand the question and look at history, why would you ever give up the "incumbency" advantage even if the opponent has effectively the same thing? I wouldn't care to give up an advantage that puts me notably ahead, but it is pretty silly to give it up if it just brings me even. Why start from (near) zero?
  8. Worse, I'm thinking the average American doesn't give a shit about telling the difference between someone of Indian descent vs. Saudi
  9. Well I guess this goes here. I think this place has made the rounds before, but CNN has a new story today on the Trump Store - just 12 or so miles from me. I'd say FML, but I know the town manager there - FHL. At least I don't think he's Trumpy from what I know, the rest of his family definitely is not. It's got to be tough on him. I do know that the last few times I've been through there the number of people there seemed much smaller than a couple years ago. https://www.cnn.com/2024/01/16/politics/trump-store-fans/index.html And of course the store owner's name is Whitey. ^^^^^^ Somebody with better skills than I have needs to put some Balls (man) on his chin.
  10. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that shecond shingles shot is shittiest.
  11. They do. Along the lines of Jimmy Jazz's post I remember a time where they brought this trailer to our school that had a dining room-like setup on a shaker. The room had a table and chairs, ceiling light fixtures, some cabinets on the wall - all that typical sort of stuff - and one side was open for everyone to watch. So they would have a few kids get in and sit in chairs around the table and start shaking the shit out of it. You would get to experience the feeling and react the way you were trained. Amusement park ride, indeed.
  12. Holy fuck - I spent several years growing up in Japan, and earthquake awareness and preparation was such a huge thing. I have known about the Great Kanto earthquake 100 years ago nearly all my life. Well, this morning as I went to refresh my memory on a few specifics of that disaster I learned about the Kanto Massacre for the first time. Damn people can be terrible. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kantō_Massacre History diversion aside, hoping for as little damage and death as possible today.
  13. Someone had boxes of sugar cubes, and we pelted those corps turds closest to us for quite a while while laughing at them. Good times. (Let's not think about the actual sugar bowl...)
  14. Totally agree - this summer I visited a relative who just turned 109. It was tough to see what her life is like, but the staff members we met were amazing. Shoot, they helped care for us during the time we were there not just the folks living there. That said I was speaking more to the broader senior living category where assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing etc. are part of a full suite of services where you can live there for 20 years and progress through stages as needed.. It's all super expensive and some of the places my wife works with have 7 figure buy ins. Insane.
  15. I haven't looked into investing in senior living, but my wife works in the industry. As a consumer there is a massive difference in for profit and non-profit facilities - you want to be in non-profit for sure if you can afford it. They actually spend money on space that can be enjoyed/adds to quality of life as opposed to extracting revenue - profit - out of every square foot. On a few random occasions I've been able to tag along on tours and the difference is obvious. She generally works with the non-profits, and they are expensive as hell. That said, I'm sure there is a lot of money being made in the for profit category.
  16. Does Hawley really qualify as a smart one who knows better?
  17. That is awesome and would easily be an impulse buy if I ran across one.
  18. For what it's worth, I was right there a week before for a Jewish wedding - well, one of the ceremonies associated with it. My nephew (not Jewish, marrying a Jewish woman) was to read from the Torah as part of a "regular" Saturday service. We attended and participated (?) in the full service. At the end it was first announced that there would be a reception for the couple - as part of the normal lunch or whatever they usually had - and THEN they spent 15 minutes talking about precautions that would be taken for the next week. All I am saying is that they knew what what was coming. There were clearly outlined plans for services and their timing, security that would be in place, and even what would be done with their copy of the Torah (it was removed to another location). At the time I thought it was a bit overblown. A week later I saw what happened, and all I could think of was how prepared they were. It may not have been all about the Jews, but torches were carried right in front of that synagogue. They were prepared for what they expected, and they weren't wrong. All the above aside, I hate what's going on, and any peaceful solution >>> what's happening now. I just don't know what that looks like.
