  1. Says the busker for Bruce Bartlett and the Peter G. Peterson in 2010. By the way, since Bartlett is now a progressive, perhaps he might provide some inspiration for your wheezy economic views.
  2. For emphasis - here is the correction from the NBC reporter spreading the third person in the house misinformation today on Meet the Press:
  3. Elon’s Twitter: If he is visionary, it might be worthwhile for Musk to get an eye exam. He is killing his brand.
  4. From the WaPo - The Washington Post corroborated that a voluminous blog written under DePape’s name and filled with deeply racist and antisemitic writings — as well as pro-Trump and anti-Democratic posts — belonged to the suspect. In a single day earlier this month, the blog had seven new posts. The titles included: “Balcks Nda jEwS,” “Were the Germans so Stupid?” “Who FINANCED Hitler’s rise to Power” and “Gas chamber doors.” . . . More recently, CNN reported that in 2018 and 2019, Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) — who was elected to Congress in 2020 and quickly became known for her conspiracy theory-laden views — repeatedly expressed support for executing prominent Democratic politicians, including Pelosi. Greene liked a Facebook comment that said “a bullet to the head would be quicker” as a way of removing Pelosi as speaker, CNN found. And in a video of a speech Greene gave promoting a 2019 petition she’d launched to impeach Pelosi for “crimes of treason,” Greene calls Pelosi “a traitor to our country” and says the speaker could be executed for treason. “It’s a crime punishable by death — is what treason is,” Greene says in the video, according to CNN. “Nancy Pelosi is guilty of treason.” https://apple.news/AtO848P0iQC6mPhUB7iUUTw
  5. Manson’s “hippie commune” wanted to start a race war.
  6. Poisoning minds. Alternative reality for those who have lost touch with reality. Creating monsters.
  7. It's fascinating to watch the right wing kooks deploying misinformation on twitter and in their media silos. They are showing a mug shot of a black man (not the perp who is white) and claim he supports Castro (the perp at one point lived in the Castro district of San Francisco; the perp was right wing anti-commie who claimed the Democrats are communists).
  8. Early ID of alleged perp indicates he is an antisemite, anti vax, anti communist, Jordan Peterson loving, white lives matter kook who calls Antifa the KKK of the Democratic Party. Alleged Website of the Alleged Perp: frenlyfrens.com/blog Name of alleged perp is David Depape. Could be bullsshit. Reported by Heavy.
  9. Key Fed data - PCE numbers up - supporting further tightening (rate hikes) by the Fed in an effort to destroy demand. Services inflation, rather than goods, is the primary driver (but goods inflation continues). https://www.bea.gov/news/2022/personal-income-and-outlays-september-2022
  10. PCE price deflator comes out tomorrow. It is a big data point for the Fed. The Fed uses the PCE price deflators numbers rather than CPI for several reasons, not the least of which is a consumer’s ability to substitute lesser quality goods/services when prices rise for higher quality products (think NY Strip steak instead of Ribeye). Regardless, I still expect .75 rather than .50 as some have been wish-casting lately.
  11. Austin’s own (and UT alum) Gabino Iglesias with a review of Cormac McCarthy’s newest works: In terms of scope, works of literature exist on a spectrum that goes from small narratives packed into a microcosm that want to explore a single element of human nature all the way to stories that seem obsessed with somehow encapsulating the totality of the human experience and decoding the meaning of life. Cormac McCarthy's The Passengerand Stella Maris -- the author's first two books in more than a decade — belong to the latter group, both as standalone novels and when taken together as deeply intertwined works of fiction that take place in the same universe and with the same characters. . .. https://www.npr.org/2022/10/25/1131283160/review-cormac-mccarthy-the-passenger-and-stella-maris Gambino is an excellent author in his own right. The Devil Takes You Home is a haunting read.
  12. Finally. Looking forward to the books.
  13. Much of the recovery will depend on what breaks and contagion risk. The financial advisor is providing a consensus opinion: Bear rally/ies then capitulation drop. If one listens to Nouriel Roubini, expect a Doomsday as a result of the Fed blinking. (I think he is just selling his new book).
  14. Crypto correlation with stock market. Dollar down today with economic bad news (consumer confidence down) hinting the Fed will slow tightening. (Weaker USD = more USD needed to buy asset like cryptos). I think the Bloomberg article provides a relatively objective case for why crypto has value - much better than any promoter of crypto. The crypto hucksters have been been unsavory, to say it kindly.
  15. For only the second time, Business Week devotes an entire issue to one topic: Crypto. Worth a read if one has the time and patience to read a 40,000 word article by one reporter. https://www.bloomberg.com/features/2022-the-crypto-story/?srnd=businessweek-v2
  16. Kanye is proof that music/art opinions are subjective. Kanye is pop music attempting to be art music. There is no accounting for taste, especially when the artist has documented mental health issues - especially cluster b personality disorders: We all know someone like Kanye. One would hope his friends would get him the help he needs.
  17. 5’3” former Goldman banker - what could go wrong?
