  1. Beat me to it. Those were the peak of his culture warrior days too (feminazis, etc). I read Al Franken’s book in middle school and it’s one of the reason why I have been anti-conservative since becoming politically conscious.
  2. Trust me, I did my time and 99% of the calls that come in are from olds on landlines reacting to whatever Hannity is outraged about at the moment. People who are connected do not call the front desk. MJT is new in office and probably demanding her staff answer and log a response to every call. Edit: to washpark, there is a very strict divide between Congressional office and campaign, and I would hope MJT is adhering to that. Or not, actually.
  3. I’m honestly surprised they called you back, because they can see your area code. I usually didn’t answer non-constituent area codes when I was a staff assistant.
  4. No way they can get an ATM program in place in time, they can’t even be S-3 eligible.
  5. No, not really. A parent following all this compiled a report on the absurdity of the process. They were basically browsing Wikipedia and often using one-off instances of perceived bad acts to strike people. In some cases they flat out based their decisions on factually incorrect bases. I live in SF and am very familiar with the buffoons that inhabit local political bodies. 95% of the city, including London Brees, would agree this is a joke.
  6. You laugh but the school board also canceled John Muir.
  7. I think 95% of people in SF think this is absurd but we are all much more frustrated with a mayor who banned outdoor dining again with no data and a DA who doesn’t believe in jail and releases criminals who promptly kill people.
  8. 🚀🚀🚀 This rocket is going to take off harder than the first time our wives let their boyfriends try anal, and we’ll all be dipping tendies in champagne on the moon.
  9. And Michael Burry went long on it back in August. And, of course, DeepFuckingValue - who started all this - has been posting YouTube videos for a year.
  10. Thank you for articulating so well what I have been thinking. There’s always been this performative core to Trumpism, just shitting on political norms for the glee of disrupting things. The claims pushed by Trumpkins are frequently too outlandish for a reasonable person to take seriously, and the collective reactions indicate to me most don’t. I mean, until last Wednesday the response to in what most countries would be actual civil war was a fucking hashtag. Even most of the mob, after being politely let in by Capitol Police, simply paraded around with their phones and selfie sticks out. They obeyed the velvet ropes in Statuary Hall! And it took a gunshot for them to snap out of it. I’d guess most of the mob simply believed that larger forces at work rigged the game against Trump and them - and they aren’t wrong at a certain level of generality - and that was enough for them to suspend belief and embrace the theater.
  11. Yes I just don’t understand the butthurt. This was almost certainly a decision made by Jack Dorsey and Twitter’s board, along with strong pressure from institutional shareholders, regarding protecting Twitter from liability arising from its involvement with being a forum for hate speech and the right thing to do as a corporate citizen. Twitter has been one of the demonized faces of Big Tech for some time and I’d guess the board, reeling at the possible legal exposure of being deemed a catalyst for widespread political violence in the US, just decided to get out of the business of regulating such content entirely. I don’t think any officer or director of Twitter or Alphabet would want to make decisions, or have their employees put in the position of making decisions, of this magnitude.
  12. Holy shit, took me a sec to notice that’s a TexAgs screenshot. Gotta save this one for the archives.
  13. Fortunately law enforcement has gained lots of experience with this situation over the course of the Trump administration.
  14. Yes. In high school I had an “Impeach Tom without Delay” shirt. I’ve hated the Republican Party for a long time.
  15. I think he’s a good choice and it makes sense. While I understand their disappointment, as a San Franciscan I am upset by the tone of Willie Brown’s and London Breed’s reactions. Particularly with Breed, as this is the type of politics she embraces while driving SF back into shelter in place with no data for justification.
  16. Trust me, the TigerDroppings crowd will gladly give up New Orleans.
  17. This is interesting. I don’t think it will bring many relocations. Like many tech companies, Oracle is moving away from the notion of being tied to an office. And while tech brings people to the Bay from all over the world, in my experience most people in G&A (the only function tied to HQ) are native Californians - especially in older companies like Oracle. I don’t see them particularly interested in moving to Texas. That said, fuck being tethered to Redwood City.
