  1. The immediate post-election reaction among many moderate liberal talking heads like Josh Barro, Noah Smith, and Ezra Klein has been to take the gloves off and blame Democratic dysfunction in blue cities as indicative of the party’s broader governance problems. I’m already seeing some local politicians running with the new “abundance economy” buzzphrase, as well as literally and figuratively dropping the pronouns.
  2. Mama’s in North Beach is the famous spot. Otherwise Texas Exes meets at S.F. Brewing for the game.
  3. But why? Michelin has tried to expand and adapt, but at the end of the day it’s a French company that reviews restaurants through the lens of French haute cuisine and, especially at the 2+ star level, is beholden to those standards for the sake of consistency across markets. Ambitious Texas restaurants will now gun using the Michelin formula and get there soon enough.
  4. No, they are called Left NIMBYs. It’s a nonpartisan dynamic that creates some strange bedfellows, like Compton progressives and Beverly Hills’ MAGA mayor uniting in LA to block upzoning.
  5. No Name.
  6. Shaya was canceled years ago and Revolution is irrelevant. Get a rez for Saint Germain, the most ambitious restaurant in the city, or Saffron or Mamou at the bar. Or if you want to go old school, Clancy’s at the bar. Make friends with Garth. Peche at the bar remains fantastic. Nowadays that is my rotation when I go home. Have only been to Dakar in his earlier, much more casual iterations but really enjoyed it.
  7. Hand it out in downtown San Francisco and other open air drug markets throughout the country. The overdose problem has been insane.
  8. Can confirm (and it was well more than 50).
  9. He had another charge outstanding in Tracy. https://sfstandard.com/2024/09/04/ricky-pearsall-shooting-juvenile-court/
  10. Yes, the shooter is a 17 year old kid from Tracy who drove to the city to gang bang. SFPD was literally feet away and immediately apprehended him. I walk through that intersection to work every day. Lots of things one can say about the city but this was just random. Can we just shit on the Central Valley instead?
  11. There is a corporate entity which, IIRC, makes money from licensing gyms and education. But Greg Glassman got canceled after an “All Lives Matter” rant four years ago and I’m surprised that it’s still around.
  12. The productive conversations:
  13. I mean, did it? We have lived in Russian Hill for over a decade. We are raising a kid here - we’re all in! I go to work in the FiDi five days a week and I would say there has been a stasis for the past two years since reopening. But Fisherman’s Wharf? It’s become cool. Ghirardelli has had a revamp. SF Brewing is where we go for Texas Exes, Palette is great for dumplings, and Square Pie Guys opened an awesome family friendly spot. Also, Broad Street Oyster just opened their second spot out of LA. Honestly, the Wharf is becoming kind of cool for locals.
  14. GG, imo.
  15. This guy Missions. Will have to head down to St Mary’s soon, live on north side of town so don’t make it down there often. Sorry, I swear the weather was nice until today.
  16. That’s a solid list. Connecticut Yankee and Bloom’s are near Parkside. Mission Rock Resort if you want to a place to eat with a view.
  17. 😳 well anyways here’s some extremely unimpressive Bouchard and Dauvissat to follow that up.
  18. I don’t think there will be any 2 stars. That’s the realm of haute cuisine tasting menus, and those places don’t exist outside of places Michelin already review because the economics don’t make any sense. But I’m sure places will quickly pop up to chase stars.
  19. The Tenderloin is ground zero for it. It’s just a mystery why the city made it’s tourist hub like five blocks away.
  20. Tasting notes plz?
  21. Yeah was going to California is not a retirement destination for most because of the cost, but if I had $2.5M to spend and wanted access to a city and outdoors I’d be thinking something like Coronado or Sausalito.
