  1. Cactus emojis (some might say "Cacti") must be the Squid emoji of 2022. Party on......
  2. When it comes to realignment, most of the time things feel imminently not imminent so when I see all these Pac 12, Big 12 moves rumored to occur, possibly even later today, I definitely take them with a grain of salt, but I'll outright call BS on any rumor that the Pac 12 is seriously considering Fresno State as a USC/UCLA replacement. To loosely quote the king in "Braveheart" on sending his weakling son to negotiate with William Wallace, "The mere sight of Fresno State would only encourage an enemy to take over the whole conference".
  3. Yeah, the real question is whether the conference they are petitioning wants to add them now or play wait and see on other options (such as NoCal & The Pacific NW). Everyone’s playing chess and the wrong move could lead to your own checkmate so move well
  4. https://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/34273667/california-governor-gavin-newsom-demands-ucla-explain-how-leaving-pac-12-big-ten-beneficial
  5. Honestly, who gives a shit what any Pac 12 university says right now. The Pac 12 is in the process of receiving a valuation of their broadcasting worth post- USC, UCLA defections. And once the schools receive that valuation, say in a month, then they’ll know how much less each school will make remaining in the Pac 12 vs The Big Ten and SEC and that’s when we might get some idea of each school’s true intentions
  6. Alright, enough of this f’in shite. No more 105 degree tomf—kery, no more realignment bullshite, grab the pads, open the camps, stock the bar, and let’s get back to at least the thought of real football
  7. I believe that Florida & South Carolina don’t want Florida State, Miami, & Clemson in the SEC. However, I do not believe that adding one or all of those schools would not increase what the SEC could demand for broadcasting rights. Agree with you on contraction though many think it’s not going to happen, but I wouldn’t necessarily be looking to contract Mississippi State, but Vandy?……oh yeah. But I personally might explore cutting Mizzou or Kentucky before I’d drop the guillotine on Mississippi State.
  8. Kind of what I expected, though Washington State surprised me. For all the Iowa State talk on this board lately, interesting to see how low they rank in terms of eyeballs and the number of remaining Big XII teams they rank behind in terms of eyeballs including ones I wouldn’t have thought such as TCU
  9. Yeah I’m with you. Was glad when that fell through though I wish Texas would have made their move to the SEC back then instead of sticking in a dying conference while A&M got the jump
  10. Granted it's been 2 or 3 years, but last I heard, the NFL TV ratings outperform college football TV ratings by a factor of between 3 and 4 times the viewership. NFL viewership >> NCAA Football viewership. The broadcasting partners know this, are looking for a way to "boost" college football viewership to be more comparable to the NFL and thus more marketable to advertisers who have been complaining, EVEN FOR THE NFL, that they don't like the return they've been getting on their investments.
  11. I think as a general rule of thumb, it should be assumed that ALL of these tweeted/reported rumors in realignment should never be accepted as the actual goings-on. They "might" represent the goings-on, they "might" be information from a source looking to torpedo the plans of other players in the big game, and the source may not know what other players in the game are planning behind their backs. Look no further than how many of these insiders reported USC/UCLA to the Big Ten last week before it happened (none). This is the college football equivalent of "Survivor".
  12. On European Super League point..........point taken, and we clearly live in times where the collective conscience may be divided on how they view the pure capitalism behind such decisions. But are we Europe and is college football king in America the way the various 1st division soccer leagues are in Europe? I would offer that I run into a lot of "Football" fans that say they love and watch the NFL, but not as much college ball, the explanation most-oft given being that college football has "too many mismatches" of the Texas-UTEP, Bama-Citadel variety. I think part of what we're all witnessing here is broadcasting partners asking themselves what product they're paying literally Billions for and wanting to have more of a say in what their investment looks like in the future, especially in a "cord-cutting" era
  13. Until the Joker walks in the room and drops a 2x4 on the floor and says "We're having tryouts"
  14. And if I was king of the world, and if it was determined adding UNC and/or Virginia was a must, contraction of "existing" SEC programs would definitely be on the table. I'm not naming any names here, but one candidate might rhyme with "Chandlerbilt"
  15. Only thing I'll add to your points: I would imagine traditional TV (and new streaming) partners want elite matchups as often as possible and care less about the "massive potential backlash" you alluded to arising from too much exclusion. Now the broadcasting partners' collective legal teams?..........
  16. Florida State and Clemson.........welcome. UNC and especially Virginia.........piss off. And somebody get me Miami on line 1, and if it must be 4, VaTech please. Disclaimer: These comments were made without few, if any, consideration of TV markets and wholly from the perspective of keeping SEC football as elite as possible.
  17. When I compartmentalize all of this realignment talk in my mind, Oklahoma State is near, if not at the top, of the list of potential programs left behind that deserve better. I'll say this, if we're talking about the line forming to get into the club, Oklahoma State's place is closer to the front of the line than Iowa State's (since The Cyclones seem to be a popular topic of discussion the past few pages). Oklahoma State simply has more sex appeal than the ilk of ISU, more consistent success over a longer period of time (even if it hasn't been "ultimate" success), but their obvious problem is being the 2nd program in a small market state. It's just a matter of how many schools this assumed "new College Football Power league replacing the current NCAA" ends up taking. If there is a line, I would say Oklahoma State finds themselves behind the likes of Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Clemson, Florida State, Notre Dame, but join a "next group" of schools that includes the ilk of UNC, Miami, Colorado, Utah, BYU, West Virginia. I oft hear Kansas placed in this "next group", but their football program really makes me wonder about their place in these discussions. Iowa State?..........I would think they're in a tier below this next group, perhaps even SIGNIFICANTLY below this group.
  18. Last few years…..Iowa State football really turned it around, competed, contended for conference titles. Before that? Two decades consistently being one of the worst football programs in the 5/6 major conferences akin to Baylor pre-Briles/Griffin. Apart from this, Iowa State’s problem is the casual fan isn’t going to tune in to watch them play the way they would a blue blood plain and simple. That leaves your base and unfortunately The Cyclones’ base is the 2nd most popular program in Iowa……..not exactly what Madison Avenue is looking for. The Quad Cities have a larger footprint than many on this board might understand, but it’s still a 2nd tier footprint which is why it doesn’t have major professional sports and is barely even mentioned in that realm. What the Cyclones are selling just doesn’t move the meter for the power brokers moving the pieces around on this chess board. Sucks, but it’s true.
  19. Can we get someone with some balls at FOX and/or ESPN? Someone to stand up and demand a little contraction to go with all this talk about expansion?
  20. Honestly, I’m a little surprised we haven’t heard these kind of stories more since realignment picked up steam again last year. The ghost of Ann Richards performs a silent clap
  21. Yeah, and to expand on the ACC, I seem to recall that the conferences "football" members were irked that the decisions on their conference's future were being made from the basketball-centric interests of the Duke's and the Carolina's. This was rumored to be one of the reasons Clemson and Florida State were exploring a move to The Big XII at that time. I'm guessing those sentiments will soon surface again. Hell, they probably already have
  22. Too bad this is about TV markets and not ticket sales
  23. Actually, one of the results of the realignment period of the last decade is it appeared the major conferences all scheduled their new TV deals at that time to expire at roughly the same time to give them the flexibility to secede from the NCAA and take control of their futures once those conference TV deals expired. Those conference TV expiration dates are now upon us.
