  1. Urban is stealing both Clemson coordinators? Even better!
  2. Okay, so I scoured the OSU and John Glenn airports in Columbus for interesting flights over the last few days (I also checked Longview and Tyler airports as suggested), and this is what I've got. Plane 1: Went Laredo TX to Columbus last night. Owned and operated by Kalitta Charters, a flight charter company out of Michigan that is reputable -- e.g., does a lot of work for the Department of Defense -- and operates out of Bergstrom and in other TX areas. Plane returned to Kalitta HQ after the trip. Plane 2: Went Houston to Columbus on Monday, then Columbus to Sarasota FL yesterday. Operated by NetJets, so not reaching much into subsequent stops. Plane 3: After being in Columbus late last week, went to Longview and Brownsville TX last Thursday. On Sunday, it went from Brownsville back to Columbus. Plane 4: One of the planes we were tracking last week that went from Horseshoe Bay to KOSU this past Sunday. Bounced around since then (it's another NetJets-operated plane), but it's upcoming itinerary for today and tomorrow is showing Chicago --> KOSU --> Horseshoe Bay. Plane 5: Went from Sarasota to KOSU earlier in the week. Has made a couple hops in South Carolina since then, with next leg to Clemson SC this afternoon. Clearly Urban coming back from the FL vacation and checking out a couple SC golf courses before going to steal Brent Venables away from Clemson.
  3. Just thinking out loud but, given the positive COVID-19 tests were conducted on Saturday or Sunday morning (i.e., a matter of hours after the entire team was confined in a plane together with the infected), you have to expect 5 positive individuals would be many multiples of that as far as contact tracing goes. Way more so than if the tests were done mid-week.
  4. No disrespect to the sport and fans of it, but please GTFO of here with the soccer bullshit. This thread is limited to speculation and discussion of UM to UT, best condiments, worst TX towns, burgers, barbeque and butts.
  5. Believe someone has also mentioned that Rewind with Tom Herman was cancelled tonight. Add that to the data points.
  6. First of all, I resent this statement. Second, the flight tracking is an entertaining and harmless process that shouldn't be likened to some dildo holding themselves out to be an insider. Me and others who were tracking last week were clear about the fact that we're dildos, amateur dildos with a computer and no sources. And everyone knows that and can read what they want into flight reports given the surrounding information. And frankly, I at least remain convinced that the Kendra Scott plane (and potentially others discussed) were in some way involved with the Urban courting. The only thing Urban not coming would prove as wrong without a shadow of a doubt is RGL, Squid, Ceddby and all of the other fake insiders.
  7. Bama had some droughts, but they didn't disappear.
  8. Put me firmly in the contingent of tinfoil hat wearing eternal optimists for the time being, if for no reason other than it's way more cheeky and fun than wielding a pitchfork and discussing Jeff fucking Traylor with the Occam's razor crowd. Would rather discuss/consider the possibility of hitting the 5%-odds jackpot than the 95% pit of despair.
  9. In on 500.
  10. Just some fun notes/facts to keep us marching on the road to 500. The Kendra Scott plane took off from Lajitas towards Austin earlier and not long into the flight was "diverted" and went right back to Lajitas. Starting in the '80s, the the purported mayor of Lajitas was Clay Henry III, a beer-drinking goat that lived at the actual mayor's trading post and stables (and there were later two successor Clay Henrys).
  11. horrifying
  12. CeddyB of Twitter Trio fame is posting the same UF timeline and has firmly committed to the smoke screen / it's happening theory, for what that's worth (nothing). I know some surly user dug into RapGameLarry and had reason to believe he had potential for clout. Did anyone vet CeddyB or make any sort of connection? Not that it matters, it's just better than discussing gloom and doom and I'm simply curious.
  13. Petition for new surly motto: Unfounded hope, crude humor, baseless speculation and barbeque.
  14. That's my cue! Y'all ready to get this party started again?! In today's news, the Kendra Scott plane is back to being the flight of mild intrigue. After it's flight from Sarasota, FL to Austin on Thursday, it sat until this afternoon. It's inaugural flight of the day out of Austin has it in route to Lajitas, TX which is located in BFE and not far from Big Bend National Park. The plane is set to return to Austin later this afternoon. Besides tumbleweeds and meth, from what I can surmise the most notable thing about the place is that it is home to Lajitas Golf Resort & Spa, which is owned by Kelcy Warren, renowned Dallas-based billionaire, UT Arlington alumnus and member of the UT System Board of Regents.
  15. Herman needing to go is a given. I just refuse to believe that the only (or most feasible) way to achieve that is hiring a Traylor or comparable. Edit: Last post I'll make off the thread topic. Still here for discussion/speculation around Urban until the cows come home to roost.
  16. I feel like I've been warped over to OrangeBloods with all of this Traylor talk. Sure, I liked the guy when he was here and he's doing impressive stuff with UTSA, but I challenge anyone to say they would be surprised if we hired him and four years from now we're looking back on how incredibly reactionary and stupid it was to follow up Charlie and Herman with the non-P5 trifecta ending with Traylor and expecting different results. Not saying it'd happen and that he wouldn't break the mold Charlie and Herman set, just saying it's of the same mold and an extreme gamble, and one we can't afford to take at this juncture.
  17. "Peterson isn't good enough" for us? We're talking Matt Campbell types (no slight against him, think he's a good coach with potential for success here) and you think Peterson is beneath us at this point? What the fuck is wrong with you? And Saban is unattainable? Sure, most likely, but it doesn't stop you from making the call. People said the same thing in 2013 and those people for wrong. I know you're agreeing me, but times call for desperate measures, see e.g. the shit show that just unfolded and the consequences for the future of the program discussed at length the last few pages. UT is desperate, and UT should be desperate. Fuck optics, make the calls and test the waters with the best options out there even if they'll almost assuredly say no. Insert cliché Wayne Gretzky quote.
  18. I share the view of many posters that the bolded is a dumb, loser mentality. If BMD's are truly vested in the success of the program, and our AD is as well, you move on from a coach the second it's clear without a doubt that he's not going to bring the program to the threshold level of success - the force of that is doubled when it's both obvious that he's not going to cut it on the field and and that he's a fucking dead man walking on the recruiting trail (i.e., he's going to have even less talent in future to mask shortcomings on the field). The idea that BMDs will shell out stupid money for Urban but, for any other coach that is promising but nonetheless another gamble (like the supermajority of HC hires), not pass around the hat and drop what to them is church-offering-like money for Surly 99%'ers is ridiculous and sad if true.
  19. Based on my deep dive into @Caddox's post history during last night's sleep deprivation mode, assuming anyone still has any belief in his connections, he was supposedly told way back when that Fatterson would apparently have had interest in the UT job for a long stretch of time, but that he thought we did Mack dirty on his way out and wouldn't be open to it now. For obvious reasons take that with a large grain of salt. But it's been a long time since Mack and I feel like Fatterson wouldn't be de facto off the table if we truly wanted to make a serious run at him, regardless of the TCU/FW god-like status that is often used to shoot down that possibility.
  20. Yes, as many others have mentioned, regardless of where this ends up, that was the most fun, laughs and excitement I've had over UT football in a long time. Will reiterate what I said hundreds of pages back in this thread, I simultaneously love and hate all of you bastards. ...except you, futureman. Go fuck yourself.
  21. You jest, but why the fuck not kick the tires? Similar to the drunken late-night suggestion by another poster to put in a call to Satan and see if he wants $12MM to escape Tuscaloosa for a three-year vacation and just long enough to defibrillate the program and win a NC at a third school. Not that he'd necessarily even answer the phone after the last shit show (and the one that just publicly unfolded), but maybe it's just Steve Hicks' number that he blocked.
  22. Symptom of the widely rooted issues in our AD and its gravitational circle, where personal interests take priority over what is best for the program's success.
  23. Yes, dipshit, that’s clearly the most likely. Thanks for stating the obvious.
  24. Thanks @Caddox, keep us posted. To be completely honest, I FlightAware’ed the shit out of your post history given your silence today and saw nothing to suggest we have reason to trust you on this other than your word in this thread, but I’m going to because you seem like a cool dude and you’re selling stuff I want to hear. On a related note — as this is partly based on the assumption Caddox has legit sources and the timing of him getting to the point of supreme confidence this morning that it was a done deal and down to the lawyers and “final details” — I’m not entirely dismissing the possibility that the Urban agreed to terms in principle last night or this morning on the basis that UT provide some extreme cover for a few days. Reasons being to deflect the spotlight (which he may not have appreciated the intensity of until recently), let the tOSU or other school’s staff he’s planning to take or still courting get some breathing room until the end of the regular season, publicly project that Urban wasn’t lined up before Herman was even chopped, and give UT time to get their house in order with Herman (whether that’s simply firing him, negotiating a buyout now that they know they’ve got his replacement, helping him to scout out a soft landing, or all of the above) while dual-tracking the papering of contracts of Urban and his known staffers so everything is lined up for them to hit the ground running come late next weekend with only a couple of days to go before NSD 1. Anticipating some responses might be “why would UT agree to totally embarrassing itself by doing that / what we saw last night?” Only reasons I could think of it was non-negotiable requirement in Urban putting pen to paper (also would allow him to test UT’s commitment to providing him extreme control over the program before even setting foot in Belmont) and, if they know with certainly that getting Urban is the ultimate payout in making that deal, the temporary egg-on-face is far outweighed (and will be forgotten in an instant) due to the payout. Would also be a way to test whether leaks through BMDs could be truly cut off if CDC/Hartzell know the consequences and make a concerted effort. I fully realize m it reads like fan fiction are odds are it is, and not saying I subscribe to the theory, just that that misdirection and outright lies are commonplace in coaching searches and it’s not outside the realm of possibility.
  25. The staff thing was reported by multiple outlets, IIRC. But same point stands re credibility as I think they were of the 9.95 variety. As for Broaddus, devil's advocate would say (a) Broaddus is likely very connected in the coaching/agent world generally and/or (b) it's plausible Urban was testing the waters with NFL assistants.
