  1. The Texas Tribune dropped a good story on it too. https://www.texastribune.org/2023/01/13/constitutional-sheriffs-texas/ This topic could fit in bunch of different threads but honestly probably deserves it's own. I can't even believe it- maybe i've just been away too long.
  2. There are no fewer than 5 current investigations of George Santos right now. They're all distinct but overlapping, and every single one of them revolves around good old fashioned fraud. To your specific angle though, I think that would most closely fall under Nassau County's existing criminal investigation: https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/28/nyregion/george-santos-long-island-investigation.html
  3. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2023/01/in-brazilian-media-even-more-reports-of-george-santos-lies/
  4. I think he'll be arrested in a matter of months, not years. You've got the DOJ, FEC, Brazil, and several local jurisdictions investigating it at once. And to add to that, you've got the Washington Post and New York Times fighting over this story at level reminiscent of their Watergate rivalry. This guy is not that sophisticated. He made major mistakes, and it's all under a very thin veneer.
  5. YOU weren't elected by anyone! The 100% fabricated character you created out of thin air was.
  6. George Santos is not his preferred name. Anthony is his middle, and Devolder is his mother's maiden name. Reportedly he has gone by this moniker for most of his life.
  7. Oh he's very much going in the opposite direction.
  8. The local newspaper North Shore Leader discovered it and reported on it months ago. It was ignored. Here's a short (5 minutes) interview with the publisher. https://www.wbur.org/hereandnow/2023/01/05/north-shore-leader-george-santos
  9. Santos has been evicted from New York City apartments on 3 separate occasions. Anyone who thinks that he's not going to squat in a washington congressional office until forcibly removed is just flat wrong, I'm afraid.
  10. I didn't state that Warren lied as my opinion or as fact. I was only suggesting that it is the narrative from the GQP. Here's the result of a 10 second (as long as I could stomach) scan on the FOX News comment section that I just now did: Trust me, there are no shortage of similar comments. Doesn't make them true, but it doesn't matter. Whataboutism is a powerful force to the woefully stupid. As for the idea that Christian voters should hold him accountable due to the incompatibility of lying and the teaching of the bible, you're right- they should. I'm sure they'll get around to it as soon as they're done punishing GOP politicians' views on capital punishment, adultery, and caring for the poor.
  11. Unfortunately, this is too easily reconciled via whataboutism ("All Politicians lie", "What about Pocahontas Warren?", "Biden has been lying for decades." etc.) They don't even make it to that moral dilemma/ contradiction you state. This level of lying (fraud) is obviously different. Way different. But until there's an indictment, the elected GOP in government will continue to ignore it, and their constituents will continue to shrug it off and deflect.
  12. That one is real. A Nassau GOP rep said it in the pressor.
  13. I think that the Nassau GOP sees the writing on the wall and they want to preserve a chance in hell at electing a republican behind him. They won't have that if they're seen as protecting him now. The RNC is a different story.
  14. Who says politicians don't can't get anything done. When it serves their own ambition they move at the speed of light.
  15. Yep. Desposito has now formally called for the resignation. This reporter is all over it, btw. Good follow.
  16. Not sure if serious (Shirley you can't be serious), but I'll clarify. The subject of this thread made me immediately think of yours, because holy cow does it switch- much in the same way Dusk Til Dawn does, actually. I went into this movie knowing nothing about it but the title. I actually really dug it until it flipped the switch- and even though I hated it after that, it wouldn't be fair to say it is a bad movie because it's simply a genre I don't care for.
  17. The fuck?
  18. They're all the also-ran crazies. Let's see some of the principle nutbags flip.
  19. Still don't think he's got it this round.
  20. Joking aside, his preferred name is Anthony Devolder (Middle name + Mom's maiden name). Recent reporting has indicated that he can't stand "George" and his family didn't even call him that.
