  1. It's fine. Sound is actually pretty good. My 4th time seeing a show there and I've only been on the GA floor section. It's a very rare size venue for being indoors, huge GA floor, not a theater, and 5,000 cap - I was in the way back for Vampire Weekend, couldn't get close to the stage, but got right up close for Isakov/Rateliff, Haim, and Charley Crockett.
  2. I went to the show here in Houston last night. Both acts were fantastic. I was more excited to see Gregory, but Nathaniel, his band, and production were great.
  3. He's got another confession to make. But seriously, it's pretty shocking he didn't have a vasectomy, right?
  4. This just reminded me that I've actually seen them before. Totally forgot about that.
  5. I'm a day late seeing this. I rented a tux yesterday for an event this weekend. $265
  6. No Houston, but 3 nights in Austin, Dallas, and a Lubbock show?!?!
  7. I usually just go with Rittenhouse for making Manhattans and rye cocktails. Good price and easy to find.
  8. Yeah, that was the one festival lineup that I thought was really impressive this year. Plus Dawes, Lord Huron, Avett Brothers, Lucinda, and Bahamas. Probably should've gone to that one.
  9. The wife and I stayed at Les Bains and Hotel Des Grands Boulevards on our honeymoon - I highly recommend both of these hotels.
  10. Saw Coldplay last night in Houston on the floor at NRG and it was pretty fun. Obviously not everyones cup of tea, but their production/lights/etc. is about as big as it gets. I can't think of a bigger band on the planet that got started after the 90's - so yes, they can sell out stadiums around the world. I was thinking last night that they are probably the last true "band" that can consistently fill up stadiums. Are there any other bands (not pop/rap/country artists) that got started in the last 20 years that might reach that level? I know Kings of Leon, The Killers, and Muse all do pretty damn well, but not quite Coldplay level, globally.
  11. MMJ was so damn good and I loved the setlist. Still can't believe how close you can get to the stage on the White Oak lawn. Probably because it was an older crowd, but I just walked right up on Jim's side of the stage and was about 5 people back. I think the trick with parking is to buy Lot D ahead of time. It's a little bit more of a walk, but there was no line to get into the lot when I pulled up like there was for Lot B.
  12. July 3rd - Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - Houston, TX - 713 Music Hall The night after Fleet Foxes at the same venue. Wish both these shows were another weekend - I'm always doing family stuff 4th of July weekend.
  13. Lots of good shows coming up in Houston. Will try to go to most of these if I can. 4/5 - Bon Iver 4/10 - Delta Spirit 4/23 - John Mayer 4/26 - Nathaniel Rateliff 4/27 - My Morning Jacket 5/3 - The Avett Brothers 5/4 - Josh Rouse 5/8 - Coldplay 5/10 - Orville Peck 5/13 - Dave Matthews Band 5/22 - Bright Eyes 7/2 - Fleet Foxes 8/3 - Leon Bridges 8/4 - The Head and The Heart / Dawes 9/8 - The Killers
  14. Agree. No one should have a problem with Lucinda on a jukebox, and Tim McGraw would not fly.
  15. Those Collin Raye songs couldn't be further from what the OP was asking. Man, I hate those songs.
  16. Ok so some of our meals are being shuffled around a bit. Has anyone been to Peasant? The wife has heard good things and thinks it looks great and wants to go there tomorrow night. I was also able to add The Tavern at Gramercy Tavern tomorrow night from Resy notify, so we're deciding between those two. We moved our King rez to Friday night instead of sushi. Sticking with Frenchette on Saturday. For now.
  17. Looks like I could get a late rez at Pastis on Saturday. Would that be better for the wife's birthday dinner than Frenchette? The menu looks a little better at Pastis, but not sure about the atmosphere inside at either.
  18. Huge thanks to Penelope and Reynolds - lots of great suggestions here. Really appreciate it. I was able to get a rez at Sushi Yasuda on Friday night. Looks to be pretty good - anybody been?
  19. Gonna be there next weekend for my wife's birthday for 3 nights. I haven't been in 12 years. Staying at The Bowery Hotel. Thursday - dinner at King and want to grab drinks somewhere nearby or near hotel after Friday - Russ & Daughters for breakfast, then wife wants to do a museum/gallery - Guggenheim, MOMA, Whitney, Fotografiska - any recs? Walk around Central Park after, maybe Bemelman's for a drink Friday night - no dinner rez yet, but have several Resy notify set, probably just try to walk-in somewhere, then doing Comedy Cellar 10:45pm, drinks after nearby Saturday - Balthazar brunch, shopping in Soho/West Village, rez at Waverly Inn at 2:30pm, rez at Frenchette 9:30pm, but might switch to something else for dinner. Is Frenchette a good birthday dinner spot? I'm certainly open to other suggestions for Fri and Sat night. Was also interested in Gramercy Tavern, Carbone, Via Carota, Indochine, Pastis, Dante, Bar Pitti - but no luck with getting a rez, or not sure if it's worth just walking in any of these. Anybody have any good sushi recs - non-omakase - the wife loves sushi, but can be a little picky about it and would prefer to order what she likes. Any other restaurant or bar suggestions welcomed.
  20. Missy Elliott "Get Ur Freak On" is better than all but one of The Beatles songs? Tom Petty doesn't have a song until #169? Cool list.
