  1. With the very non-American "jabs" rather than "shots" entering the anti-vaccine lexicon, that's just another bit of evidence that this whole movement is being spurred on by foreign actors. Somewhat related: https://www.relevantmagazine.com/culture/tech-gaming/almost-all-of-facebooks-top-christian-pages-are-run-by-foreign-troll-farms/ Also somewhat related: https://www.technologyreview.com/2021/09/16/1035851/facebook-troll-farms-report-us-2020-election/
  2. I think most of us have a pretty good idea of what the Catholic Church will let priests get away with.
  3. Ethos is Greek, so ethi would be a false latinization (same as octopi). Greek plurals would be ethe or ethea. Tell me you don’t roll coal without telling me you don’t roll coal.
  4. Obviously drivers shouldn’t endanger others on the road and at least from the article, the kid deserves some consequences. But cyclist vs. aggressive diesel pickup truck is a conflict between probably the two biggest menaces on the road. Whenever there’s a dangerous situation, there’s a good chance at least one of the two are involved.
  5. That “mushroom where it happened” line is pretty clever.
  6. One of my colleagues will work a sample problem on the board right before a test (and leave it up on the whiteboard), give out the test with the same sample problem (still up on the board), and then laugh at all the students who miss it.
  7. I’m genuinely surprised that he didn’t label both.
  8. Those described by Jesus in Matthew 23?
  9. Before I had my breakthrough case, I thought loss of smell with COVID just meant how you lose your sense of smell and taste when you're really congested -- normal stuff. When I had COVID, I had pretty much zero nasal congestion but couldn't smell or taste a thing. It was the weirdest experience.

A few more of mine: Dietrich Fischer Dieskau, Schubert Winterreise - this is an amazing recording; at one point, I spent months exclusively listening to this and it still blows my mind Ornette Coleman, The Shape of Jazz To Come - that first wail/solo is ecstatic in a way I’ve never heard before or since Paul Simon, Graceland - that Bakithi Kumalo bass sound Dave Douglas Quintet, Be Still
  11. Pfizer #2 in early April and the whole family tested positive for COVID in late July. I had a few days where I got winded easily, had post nasal drip, loss of smell, and maybe a few hours of fever.
  12. It’s dumb and dangerous, but at least it’s somewhat logically coherent and consistent, unlike a Manny Diaz led defense.
  13. I read 12 kids and was bracing myself for a Shawn Kemp obit.
  14. Just install a switch or knob in the hole and call it a feature. I’m sure you can find a scrap guitar on Facebook marketplace.

  16. Since we’re talking biblical vengeance, there’s a good NT one in Acts 5. Fraud had its consequences.
  17. Honestly, whatever it takes. Get the shot out of spite or to stop some insane imagined liberal ploy; just get the shot.
  18. My great grandfather was an abusive alcoholic. This morning I had to make the hardest decision of my life: get drunk and race laps through a school zone in his honor or have a cup of coffee and go to work. I didn’t get a great night of sleep last night so I didn’t really feel like going to work, and I really want to do right by my terrible ancestors. It was the hardest decision of my life to not risk the lives of hundreds of school children. I just hope I did the right thing by going to work. I think I did it out of fear, which makes me a weak man.
  19. We love our fellow man, except for the press and the rest of the country.
