Did the webberville block party yesterday. Exotic Fruitica and Swallow the Rat were pretty good. Saw Alex Maas at coral snake, psychotic reaction at vinyl beauty bar (weird place) and rickshaw billies at king bee. Not sure I have it in me to go out again today.
Red river and east side again yesterday. Saw Luther Dickinson do a live on the internet thing for Paste at coral snake, he makes it look so effortless. Strange Lot, local band, was yesterday's discovery. Their rhythm section was exceptional. Wandered into an alley show and a backyard party. Good scene all around. More people than Thursday but still pretty chill. Didn't wait in any lines.
Bounced around to different places on the east side yesterday. Significantly fewer people than previous years but that's cool with me. Local band Moon Kill was the best new discovery of the day, gave me Kyuss vibes. Fat Dog was pretty fun. Daikaiju is always entertaining.
y'all got anything better than the chronicle's list of day parties? feel like there used to be a bunch of websites that listed the day shows but now it's pretty much just the chronicle.

feel like more and more places are doing the all day thing where they don't announce the set times until the day before (hotel vegas, radio east, far out lounge, etc.). i'm more into hopping around different places than sitting in one spot all day. not many bands that i'm familiar with this year but have found a few that sound promising.
San Juan seemed the most touristy of any of the towns around the lake. It was very heavy on shopping, which I wasn't really interested in. The Friday market in Santiago was nuts, so many vendors. Got a pretty sweet Mayan death mask made by an old Mayan man.
San Marcos was full of dirty dready foreigner hippies. Like being on phish lot. Not surprisingly it was the dirtiest town we visited. Santiago and San Pedro were my favorites.
just got back from 2 nights in antigua and 5 nights on lake atitlan. it was interesting and i enjoyed it, but have no desire to go back. visited san juan, tzununa, san pedro, santiago, san marcos. they all have their unique charm but are essentially very similar. found the food as a whole to be very bland and unexciting. people were extremely friendly and the lake was absolutely beautiful. in antigua they have a jesus parade every sunday during lent that was pretty entertaining to watch. everything was extremely cheap. will upload some pics later...
saw him during sxsw at the back room on riverside in maybe 2001...it's my go to answer for worst concert i've ever seen. he wore a leather jumpsuit that was 5 sizes too small and he couldn't even zip it up in the front. did a leg kick after every solo and flicked a pick into the crowd. it was hilariously bad.
their ordering system has not treated me well with the just salt modification. 99% of the time they still come out with the shitty seasoning. the only time they get it right is if i order directly from the bartender.
Who doesn't love a good convenience store metal concert? Sudden Deaf is the band, they were good. Reminded me of the sword. Apparently this place at 29th and Rio Grande does this regularly. The reactions of people stopping in to buy shit were pretty funny.
it's very much still a thing. the last time i went there were a few in our party who insisted drinking the water at restaurants was fine...they were the same ones with massive diarrhea at the end of the trip.
Saturday night:
Daydream Twins- leaned really heavy into the shoegaze aesthetic. vocals were very buried but the singer seemed alright. they were fine but unremarkable.
Alex Maas- i've been liking his more lowkey psychedelic stuff in comparison to the heavier black angels material. i think his voice is well suited for it. this was not one of the more inspired sets i've seen from them but was still enjoyable. really like watching robb kidd on drums.
